Cryptocurrency |OT| Nothing from Money

im kinda surprised how much flag the are getting just because you have to pay in BTC if you want to buy the asic miner.

they sell a product in and for the crypto market and people are complaining that they cant pay with $...

i dont have high investments in sia, but i think the team is really upfront and transparent about everything they do.

there is also a lengthy post on sia blog from 2 days ago about why they choose to produce an asic miner:
https://blog.sia.tech/choosing-asics-for-sia-b318505b5b51

That was a really good article, and I understand his rationale. However, I think a huge issue right now is involvement. Involvement at lower levels, this usually comes in from people who are GPU miners getting excited, investing and using the technology. ASIC miners are inevitable, but in CryptoCurrencies infancy it drives low level users away in droves and it just becomes whales.

Gdax is refunding the eth flash crash losses.

Wow. Alot of very relieved people I'm sure.

Crypto has interested me for a long time. All my investments have always been index funds so looking for something on the side that's a little bit more fun with the potential for more growth.

Thinking about doing 6k to start evenly split between:
BTC
ETH
ANT/NEO
LTC
ARK
WAVES

Thoughts?

i find it hard to give advice, because nobody really knows what the future brings.
I think all your choices are solid, but cant tell you what to do.

i can tell you that ARK and ANT/NEO are really volatile atm. you can make a good chunk of money with short term trading. but also lose it.
for instance, im down 10% since i bought ARK a few days ago. but could easily be up 20% if i would have sold at the top of the pump yesterday and bought back in after the price crashed ;)
both appear to be reasonably cheap right now, but i dont know where the bottom is.
they might be the coins with the most potential for increase in value on your list. they might be worth nothing in a year.

go to https://www.coingecko.com
take a look at the charts (1d, 7d, a week, a month, a year) for every coin in your list.
if you like what you see, go for it.

I sold my $100 in Siacoin I had purchased the other day for $140. Will rebuy at some point as It's been steadily going back down. Wish I had sold at 0.0000085. I hesitated, would have been a nice profit take in order to rebuy with later.

Bought back on ETH @ 295. Betting we make a higher low this time although it's pretty risky... the way the chart looks wouldn't be surprised if it dropped further either

I sold off my Sia yesterday, I only lost a few dollars. I moved my Sia funds to Stratis, thinking that this might turn out to be something decent.

My Eth is taking a beating right now, but holding out for the long term.

I wonder if I should hold on to my SC or trade it in for ANS or Eth
Stratis looks good too

Good time to add to your ETH stake if you're still adding. I'm waiting to see if it can ever break through that $400 barrier, my stake is plenty large enough for me at this point.

Up to you, judging from when you bought you should still be taking a profit. I'm still mining Sia too, but I'm going to wait and see where it settles before I buy again. I think the ASIC miner has people rattled a bit, coupled with the boom deflating.

Yeah maybe I'll just hold onto them. I mean, back in March they were worth just 0.0006 cents

Well, i´ll be moving to a new place later this year and i need some cash for the big ass downpayment (it´s not the classic downpayment like 3 months rent - new building, gotta pay cost for constructions (get it back again when i move out though)) so i´m cashing it all out over the next few days. I don´t wanna take out a loan from a bank. Screw 7% interest rates.

Got all my stash on bittrex and set up the sell orders. Should be able to get 7k $. Not bad for net investment of 500$ a few years ago.

Will be back in the cryptoworld in the fall. Might mine a bit in the meantime though.

Well, i´m officially out of all my crypto currencies. It was a bit more than 7k so no loan needed. Screw you high interest rate banking system! Still have like 0.002 btc on bittrex that i set up as a buy order for blackcoin at like 100 satoshi in case some flash crash or fuckery happens. You never know.

Not mining right now, just too hot and don´t want to have my ac run 24/7. Mobile unit so it´s not that effective already, don´t need a 290x blasting heat into the room.

So, when is the current bubble bursting so i can buy in cheap again in a few months :)

I've only put a few hundred into crypto so I'm not too worried about a loss. I'm still up something like 10%. I wish I could afford larger transactions all at once instead of multiple smaller ones. Fees kill.

1 ripple might be cheap, but there is a supply of 40.000.000.000 of them atm.
so if, by chance, it quadruples its price, it will reach the current marketcap of BTC.
i just dont see that anywhere in the near future.
the price of a single coin is not the only indicator you should use if you want to determine if a coin is "cheap".
also 12% of the available ripple will go into a 5 year escrow at the end of the year. Very possible that over $1 XRP is possible.

ETH coinbase sends are delayed...
Our team is currently investigating an issue with Ethereum withdrawals. All recent or newly sent ETH transactions may remain in the pending state longer than expected.

I'm seriously considering selling all my eth.

It seems like the entire crypto market is correcting pretty hard right now

Might be a good time to just get out for a bit

I don't think it's dead but we may need to wait a few years (ala Bitcoin) to see some real returns after this point. Eth still isn't really used for anything but shitty ICO's.

Bitcoin might be just past the "New Paradigm!!!" phase. First selloff/Bear trap was a few months ago.

If this plays out as expected, there will definitely be a bull trap soon with all the hype we had recently and people waiting to buy after a correction.

This thing always plays out like a science.

Bitcoin really isn't used for anything either other than holding it. Probably better off holding gold than btc honestly.

ETH has been on a slope since friday. I bought some at 290 euros and now it's 240...I'm in for the long game but it's funny to see how volatile the market is. Especially so on supposedly "strong" coin like ETH.

I might buy more next week if it keeps on going down.

It looks to be going back up now rather slowly. I would have I have to get a few of Eth, but was concerned of it going further down. I do plan to get some more Stratis this evening that it also has dipped.

I wonder how much of these fluctuations are because of Korean/Chinese markets adjusting to the US prices, as it is not just eth, but essentially everything is going down [ETC seems to be an outlier, an interesting one to watch]

Another possible reason is that the technicals of the market have become rather clear, and we probably have larger investors moving in that are just capitalizing on the swings, while before we mostly had people steadily investing into the system, driving the entry points higher and higher

I panic sold my ETH this morning like a dumbass. It rebounded basically right when I sold. If I didn't have the ticker widget on my phone I would have never even known it was crashing and I would be way better off.

Anyway, I'm a dumbass. Don't be like me.

When I decide to re-buy I'm going to just forget about it and not look at the price for a couple years. It's not worth the stress and possibility of screwing up when trying to actively trade this stuff.

It doesn't make any sense, since Ethereum has been getting mainstream coverage lately and adoption from major companies. A correction was overdue to some extent, but this is more than a correction at this point.

I cashed out 45 at $470 Canadian, but plan to buy back in when it's stopped sliding. Not entirely sure when that'll be at this point.

With Cryptocurrency I think you really just need to have faith.
The people who panic-sold Bitcoin after Silk Road are probably kicking themselves

I am not sure? The market can be just going downward and some coins might recover, while some might not at all, and those that do might be back to their ATH in months and not just merely days or weeks.

Never forget, none of these coins have 'any' inherent value or use

Probably. But I know I would have. In the moment, it always feels like Crypto is about to be put in the grave forever. It has no inherent value and all of this is speculation.

Like, I've been going back and forth on selling my $300 in ETH because I've already lost $100 and the floor just keeps getting lower and lower with no sign as to when it could raise back up. It could take years, or it could be next week, or it could be never.
