Cuphead E3 Trailer (XB1, PC)

How do you feel about Genesis-era Treasure boss fights?
:D :D :D

Fleischer animation and Treasure boss fights?

They're trying more to channel Konami's classic boss fights than those from Treasure, which makes sense given that Treasure itself was a splinter cell of said company, carrying along similar design ideas. These teasers aren't revealing much about the big baddies we'll be facing, but the devs sound genuinely interested in providing lots of patterns to master.

Hell yes, I love this artstyle and wish cartoons of the old would come back in. Right now we have weird crap like In the Night Garden which is just...creepy.

This is true. The Treasure-in-Konami boss fights tended to be more giant sprites and/or multi-segment bosses (Contra III being the epitome of that style in my opinion) whereas independent-Treasure-era tended to like to use almost Vectorman-style animation to create pseudo 3D characters. This allowed them to basically animate the bosses at 60fps without actually animating the individual sprites at that rate (and incurring the insane amount of animating work, which wouldn't fit memory-wise into the 16 bit consoles anyway).

The two different styles have influence in what type of patterns the bosses tend to use.

This just looks amazing. Having seen it, I can't believe nobody came up with the idea of using this art style in a game before.

As an homage to the 1930's art style alone, this stands at the top. Counting not only games, but et cetera as well, this is the most Max Fleischer looking thing I've seen in recent memory. I'd buy this just to watch someone else play it.

So far, this is the game of the show for me. I love the Fleischer-style aesthetics, and the comparisons to Treasure games.

This is the most beautiful thing i've ever saw (videogame wise that is) ....

Welp, i need to sell a kidney now, between this game, the DR3 DLC and the new season of Killer Instinct i now must own a XB1.

Nope. Is more in line with the Fleischer's style:

(check the character @ 3:27 doing the same as the plant boss of the video)

More Fleischer madness:

The Fleischer bros. would be so proud of this game (if they were alive, and in good terms between them ....... sigh)

One day? That's all it took? Hahaha. We have very subtle nods in our animation, and some not-so-subtle ones. Jared and I thought, "Well, the Flower Dance reference will probably be found out in 2 to 3 days." We guessed wrong. Awesome.

Wow. I'm flattered ^-^

Never knew of this game until today, but now i'm going to follow it like i've never followed a game before.

Great job guys. You're doing a fantastic job.

Looks cool, but Mickey Mouse with a cup for a head who fights like Megaman? Try a little harder, dudes

Yeah. The market is over saturated with 1930's rubberhose animated style shooters nowadays.

Will there a sizzling jazz sound track?

Yes! Lots of Jazz/Big Band. We are very picky about the music and our good friend and master musician is composing solid gold tracks. All the final music will be nicely arranged for a bunch of musicians to play. All the way analog for the music, no digital allowed!

This art style grabbed me the most out of all the indie games shown today mainly because I'm a fan of those old-school cartoons. Props for this, and I'll have to pick this up whenever it is that I'll pick up an Xbox One.
