Heh, I had a torrent going and figured "Oh wow ... I must be getting insane speeds." because of the incredibly slow speeds from GAF (yes, that would imply that I haven't looked at any other site in a couple hours :lol).Then I looked and it was actually finished, with me seeding to no one.

The guest proxy is a great idea (just learned about it in the thread yesterday). I'm not sure it's going to be enough though. Earlier this morning it told me I saved 21 seconds loading the page.. and that was after one hell of a delay itself.

So does anyone know why there are so many people on here today? Is it another NPD day? Not that this is the end of the world, as I could probably use the incentive not to check back here ever few minutes.

Me: "When I attempt to go to www.ga-forum.com it takes an inordinate amount of time for the page to load. When it finally does load it takes a really long time for threads to open. In fact I got "Connection refused" error earlier today.
Helpdesk: (muffled voices) I'm sorry sir, it appears that someone was surfing porn on the server and now it is infested with spyware. Additionally someone put an article linking to the GA forums on Slashdot. These two incidents combined lead to our current server conudrum. There is not current eta on which this issue will be resolved.
Me: Are they working on fixing it now?
Helpdesk: (more muffled voices) I'm not a liberty to discuss that right now. *wisphers* The crack commando guest monkeys have a gun trained on my head at this moment.

As an admin of another forum (and others in the past) I can say that disabling avatars and the img tag (for now) would help things abit.
I'm 56k and can't get any topic to load unless it's on the first page of either board which sucks cause I been trying to re-check the Feb NPD thread but can't! -_-;

what would that do to help? the slowdown is coming from the GAF servers... all of our avatars are hosted on personal servers, and our images are usually stolen from other sites...
if you have issues with your connection, disable images in your browser...
easiest way to speed things back up is either mass homicide or lock out non members (which used to be in place before the new server)...
GA is one of the most bareboned forums on the internet.
I just noticed today that they actually removed (even though it might have been eons ago) the forwarding page. (i know i suggested that a long long while ago) but it's probably saving a bit of bandwidth and cpu time.
