Stephen Show's Instagram announcement.

I just learned this, and I'm sure many people don't know a sequel is happening. It's Stephen Chow, so I have hope, what do you think?

You crushed my hopes
Wikipedia says he flagrantly arrives late and leaves early for his Party meanings. If true, that would place him worlds apart from the likes of Jackie Chan. Don’t mind me though, didn’t mean to take a dump on your thread. As someone who loved the HK film scene it’s just been a big shame how things played out. I’ll add The Mermaid to my watch list to see what Chow’s recent output has been like.

The first one was amazing. I think he can do better now with all the advances in cgi/ special effects and a bigger budget.
HK film industry is long dead unfortunately. No freedom of thought, fully propagandized. Stephen Chow joined the Party to preserve his status.
Unless the film is made under orders by the Party it can't be that bad? I know that in another area(webnovels) China got pretty heavy handed around some authors so I stopped reading them but this film seems to be a private initiative from him so as long as he don't repeat the last film plot point of corruption it should be okay?

He hasn't really been involved with the HK film industry for a very long time. He has long since moved his production to mainland china and all his recent films (anything after kung fu) is pretty much catered towards the mainland audience. In fact, a lot of the actors, writers, and crew that had close working relationships with him during the 90s (arguably his peak years) are no longer in good terms with him because his ego got in the way.

To be fair, I haven’t seen his last couple movies, The Mermaid or The New King of Comedy. Maybe they’re good.
Shit, I didn't even realize he was still making movies. The last thing I knew of his was that cute little alien movie I can't remember the name of.

I dated a girl who was dating Stephen Chow at the same time. True story .

I didn’t knew it until years later when she show me pictures of dating him , we were like checking old photos when young (we never spoke about HK movies when together either). I was like , is that Stephen Chow the director? She : oh u know him??? I was with him when we date years ago …
Beautiful HK girl.

Well, lets be real here; making yourself seem disloyal or dissident in the eyes of the CCP is not good for a person's health or wellbeing!

This isn't like Hollywood elites kow-towing to progressive politics!

I love shaolin soccer, it's such a dumb ass film but it just hits all of its notes. I'll keep my fingers crossed and mind open that he can catch a second bottle of lightning.

Enjoyed The Mermaid, though a lot of it has was due to the little callbacks to older HK films; Stephen Chow's movies do this a lot.
I am not anti-CCP (hehe) but it is true that the HK movie industry's golden era has been over for a while.
Recently there is a good film that I enjoyed a lot called The Last Dance (drama about some traditional Chinese funeral service ritual). It has broken all sorts of HK box office records.

It's not fully dead. Just on life support.
Twilight of the warrior came out last year and it was great

No going to lie, at first I thought it was going to be a sequel to balls of fury, I have no idea why. But that would be awesome.

This and Kung Fu hustle were my favorite from Chow, I know he also did a bunch of good movies in the past but forgot their names. One of the funniest dude in movie history. I'll still be interesting in this but yeah I doubt it'll have the same charm as the old ones like most modern movies.
