During a recent live broadcast on the TVGry channel, Mike Pondsmith discussed his involvement in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and the cities players will explore in the title.
There's another city we visit – Night City is still there. I remember looking at it and thinking, "yeah, I get the vibe you're going for and it works; it doesn't feel like Blade Runner, it's more like Chicago gone wrong.

-Mike Pondsmith

Although he doesn't reveal much about the city, it appears to be giving Chicago vibes. He further confirms that Night City will still be there, which means players will have a much bigger place to explore in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

Chicago is a rather ugly city... I wish they would just stick to creating fictional cities. It'd be cool if they also kept night city. This way you can travel between both cities.

You already made night city, thats like every major city "gone wrong" in one landmass. The only chicago-ish thing it lacks is probably the rivers and crossings.

You do know that Night City is basically the San Francisco Bay Area right? Dogtown is based off Oakland, down to the nickname and the arena that has a swap meet they took for inspiration. Haywood is Hayward, Pacifica is straight up taken from the name, I could go on and on but you get the point. They'll take inspiration but it won't be the "real" city.

People should make themselves ready for a big disappointment. The Cyberpunk sequel will not be nearly as good as the last game. The world-building of a dystopian future, where everything went so to shit, the hypercapitalism paired with the hypersexualization, will never fly with the people who are working now at CD Project Red. Those are people complaining about billionaires but are ordering all their shit from Amazon. The game was probably the most 18+ AAA title ever when it came to sex and all the insanity involved, and the neo-puritans will never allow that again.

The filth and the satire of empowerment and self-improvement were very strong, so I doubt that they will repeat that, because people believe in this shit now. Also, you could be a straight-up asshole in the game, as you were able to in the old Dragon Age games, and we know how that ended. I don't think we will get another mature game like Cyberpunk 2077 was, but more a sterilized version of a dystopian shithole.

Give me more of Cyberpunk baby! I know nothing about Chicago other than the Bulls and the crime rate is insane over there
Incredible theaters too, and the best improv comedy troupe in the country. Don't know how that'd possibly factor into the game, but I figured I'd mention it lol

You say theaters and comedy? Thats like fucking two of my all time favourite things!
Same! You'd love Chicago then, great city to check that stuff out bro! Maybe they'll have like a way to come see comedy shows in the game somehow? Or maybe you can get involved with an improv troupe or something, I don't know lol.

That would be a fucking wicked activity in an open world game!

I just hope they actually have content in the game this time around. Night is the most detailed world I have ever experienced in a video game, yet there is nothing to do. It felt absolutely ridiculous how short the story was. When I felt like the story really got going, the ending came so quickly. And the side quests are lame.
