D.OMG.A4 Trailer Up

not bad at all, but honestly i was expecting something like this

from character models

We won't be seeing new updated DOA4 footage until X05 next week. This trailer is from the E3 build, before the system was re-named Xbox 360.

You're Wrong. In the TGS demo, the "Congratulations for the Xenon Launch" panel was there. This is the last build.

Does anyone else have trouble playing back these HD videos? What are the recommended specs you need to play this stuff?

I've got a 2.66Ghz P4 and 512MB of RAM and I can't get the DOA4 videos to playback without stuttering and moving at 2 frames a second.

I have a 2.4 P4 and 1Gig RAM, and use Media Player Classic using the default renderer and I play HD-Videos flawlessly. I was using the VMR 9 (renderless) before and it was stuttering all over the place, but now I'm using the Default renderer and it's perfect.

Uhh, why are there people complaining about "broken gameplay"? Who has played this game? Do you have a secret time machine in your closet that no one but you and your best friend knows about? And that your mom might be slightly clued in, because of the giggling and laughing emanating from the closet, while the light is visible underneath the bottom of the door while it's closed?

THE GAMEPLAY IS DEEP LIKE FAKE PLASTIC VAGINA

Seriously, new and improved. Maybe.

Maybe they've played the past games in the series and see that the combat looks almost exactly the same? I don't know myself, seeing as how I've never played a DOA before.

Saw the trailer...and it's exactly as it has always been. Nice and clean, but very "1.5". There is nothing about the lighting, animation, or stage design that could not have easily been done on XBOX. The upped overall texture resolution (though it was already very good in this area), the added more geometry all around with more "clutter" on the sides, and enhanced some of the effects a bit. The upgrade here seems about the same as that of DOA2->DOA3...maybe even smaller.

On a side note, does the ATI chip used within the X360 support SM30 instructions? The water that SM30 is able to produce is truly mindblowing (examples in both a PC flightsim and in the Warhawk PS3 demo). It really LOOKS like a real body of water. The water in DOA4 looks nice, but it is VERY similar to what we saw in DOA3 and Ultimate (with nicer reflection and distortion effects).

The game would benefit greatly from employing a lot of the more advanced graphical features offered by the newer hardware. I don't understand why Team Ninja is avoiding them.

I think they will keep the Xenon name in there...

Team Ninja seems to love making references to early XBOX items. The original giant silver "X"BOX was in Ninja Gaiden and DOAX, for example. They love that stuff!

This is you in a PDZero thread. See a pattern?

Sure do. And the pattern is that I gave an opinion on what was shown of both games. 2 games of which people have had a mixed reaction to visually. I could just as easily categorize you, for being impressed with both games.

You won't find me critisizing PGR3, for example because, hey guess, I find it looks impressive!

So you can go take your 'pattern' finding skills elsewhere.

I'm impressed that you know this was from the E3 build. You work at Team NINJA yeah? The trailer was done over the last few days from the most up to date build. We received it yesterday afternoon. Hence the "Kyoto in Bloom" stage and the first actual in-game fighting footage of Kokoro (not in a cutscene).

I wouldn't be surprised if the Xenon reference stays on the final retail version of the game. And anyone who dismisses all the new environmentally-based attacks, and reversals and counters really doesn't play the game. I played a shitload in Japan last week and it's a lot more fun than DOAU. The increased speed makes it harder to pull off successful reversals, but don't knock it until you try it.

Anyone else catch the SPoD(Stun Palm of Doom)?

I like. This looks like a huge step from DoA:U. Not sure why I didn't think so before but it's plainly obvious now.

You should have asked him why there is no self-shadowing.. that alone would make a huge difference in helping the visuals.

I have a 1.8ghz computer, 512MB of SDRAM and I get 30fps with these movies.

how?

I just upgraded to the ATI All In Wonder 2006 Card (9600)

if you have a good graphics card or better yet... an ATI card... PLAY IT IN DIVX AND DIVX only... you will cheat the recommended specs.

I cant watch these videos at all in WMP10 but in DIVX6... plays rather smooth... sound fucks up sometimes.

I even watched the gow trailer with little problems... and my cousins computer 3ghz +1GB of ram actually had problems.

It looks stunning when you first start playing the video, but the character models and animation lose their luster toward the end. PRetty backgrounds though.

Looks beautiful! Screw the typical haters.

Bingo. 1.5, though, haha.

The enviroment based fighting looks awesome. This is something we have never truly seen in a fighting game before.

why are people still hating... i guess it takes fighting fans to see how much they improved the game.

this game should show up at evo 2006

Er...I am a fighting fan, it still looks bland.

They talk about the importance of the environment in every game of this series, but I'm still not convinced it's really anything different than anything else we've seen in a game before. Maybe it'll actually feel somewhat useful this time, since the sidestepping/free run is actually supposed to work now.

But generally any fighting game with walls or a ringout makes the environment important in any fight. DoA just makes it look prettier with unique animations with some of the interaction. I'm not even sure what the next step in environment interaction would be in fighting games, but it doesn't look like DoA4's gonna bring us there

Traditional ring layouts in fighting games bore me. The market stage showed how cool it could be. Lei Fang getting knocked over one of the tables, gets back up in time to counter that yellow haired dude (forget his name again!) as he tries to do a jump kick at her over the table. Grabs his leg and flips him over. There is more too by watching the video but I see a ton of nice possibilities.

My only complaint about the game is the lack of self shadowing. But I don't think we are going to get it.

Will Tekken 6 look better? Probably. But I don't care since DoA4 looks much more fun than any Tekken game could hope to be.

Alright here comes my opinion whether some want it or not.

The new Hi-Def trailer on 1up is pretty amazing. Awe-shocking? Not really but a MAJOR jump above where DoA:U was. The lighting/shading is so much better, the environments are what's going to make DoA:4 a lot of fun. All of the stages shown have at least some sort of interactive part.

The models and animation look great. Refined a little added smoothness. I think the gameplay does a look a lot faster paced than the original games (which I welcome) and hopefully (from the looks of it) the counter system looks a lot better.

That aside, anyone that cares to step into their troll shoes and say "Xbox 1.5 or LAST GEN AM CRY" well please, just drop it, the game looks great, the fighting is going to be great, the online aspect is going to be a lot of fun with the lobbies....that and I'm finding out more and more on GaF.... there's certain games you love or hate.... DoA is one of them.

Love it or Hate it, Temco has got a great game on their hands.

No water splashing. The chicken doesn't seem to mind that Lei Fang is falling near it. The guy watching the fight in the night level isn't scared to take a punch or two. The rest looks very good, but stuff like that makes the whole thing looks weird...

I love Itagaki for being wacky and crazy and for making Ninja Gaiden, but this looks, ahhhhhh, verrrry similar to something else I played a while back.

By the way, THANKS FOR USING SIMPLE VERTEX LIGHTING, I SURE LIKED THAT ON THE DREAMCAST AND CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT.

While I'm bitching, I really love how my hot-shit P4 with 1.5 gigs of RAM can't even play these movies at a decent frame rate.

And milkman comes in with the undeniable Team Ninja defense. It's great to know they are updating environmental...stuff...and making the game faster. I wonder what score you'll give it...lol. 15/10 "THE BETS FIGHTING GAME EVARRR!" Or wait, that's xbox.ign isn't it? :lol

In anycase I've never got into the 'doa' games. The dial-a-combos are annoying as is, and the whole "look at me her tits bounce" thing never worked on me. And I really do hope somebody other than James does the 1up review, as there is nothing wrong with being a devoted fan to a game, company, developer, producer (and when it comes to Team Ninja James is all those), but if somebody other than James gives it a solid review I'll forever respect what is known as Dead or Alive. :p

I may be close to Team NINJA, and I knew anything I said in its defense could be construed as bias, but I posted anyway, not like anyone here would be swayed one way or another. So +1 for bravery. /clutches hanky

But even as close to Itagaki as I can be, I still look at the games from a genuine gamer's perspective, and I've always enjoyed DOA. While I gave DOA:U a good score, it was more for the total fan service than anything else. To me it was a little too much of what I've had before. But DOA4 is different, I think. It made me interested in playing it again.

My conversation with Itagaki last year re: the future of DOA was that he simply could not stand to just add a couple levels and a couple of characters. I alsmo mentioned that he'd have to work twice as hard to dispel the notion that the DOA games are successful more for their boobs than for its fighting engine. And while it's not quite *there* just yet, what is there is a lot more fun to play than I expected. But he's very aware this is a crucial moment in the series.

/checks to see if review scale goes to 15.

Yeah Ninja Gaiden has the silver prototype Xbox in it so I think the Xenon reference will stay.

I really like the environmental attacks and reversals. The fighting looks very organic and natural. I love the way they're constantly jumping over tables and banisters and all the stuff in the way. It looks more like a normal chaotic fight in an everyday setting would. I don't mind the speed of the game so long as the attacks are less powerful. I prefer long matches so hopefully the faster speed won't mean shorter rounds.

It doesn't look as good as GRAW, GoW, Kameo, or PGR3 but it doesn't look XBox 1.5 either. I can't wait to see what Tecmo can do with more time - NG2 should look pretty awesome.

Hate the plastic look of the characters, but the backgrounds look great.

The high level DOA players have yet to really get their hands on DOA4. Just about everyone who we've seen playing the game from Team Ninja to GameSpot, to IGN to TeamXbox, is average at best (most are super scrubby). You're not going to see the real depth of DOA4 until the high level players get their hands on this.

At the same time, for those of you claiming this looks like more of the same in terms of gameplay, are you a fighting game fan who will push the game to its limits? I'm guessing most of you probably aren't. So for you, this game will play pretty similar to DOAU/3 simply because you don't know how (or don't care) to dig into the game and really learn what makes the game deeper than DOAU/3.

Evo2k6? Too early to tell at this point. From what I played at TGS, the game looked much improved, but these new vids have me back on the fence about it. At TGS I was playing against more super scrubs so it was difficult to test things properly. We'll have to wait for the final to make the call.

Ok... well the videos show me that gameplay wise... team ninja improved on alot. Many things that contributed to the bs on xbl are gone.

graphically it looks like an enhanced version of the same... but gameplay wise.

i say it might beat out tekken... gotta see the move list... but yea... i say it could beat out tekken gameplay wise.

tekken is all about juggles and dial a combos. You must hate that too. I dont see how bouncing boobs hurts the fighting engine. You never got into DOA so i dont see why you are getting so worked up. According the ppl who have PLAYED the game they improved and dodging and weakened the counters which is EXACTLY what most ppl complained about. I never had problems with the dial a combos in tekken and in DOA.

DOA is Fun pure and simple.

I don't understand the "Oh look at the titties bouncing" complaint. Must not have played a DoA game past the original game because the titty factor was extremely reduced at Dead or Alive 2 and has been since.

Wow that was retarded.

Why the fuck does it matter that it's been REDUCED? That's still the main draw of the game.

oh fuck off. I like doa and hate DOAX.
THe bouncing boobies dont effect the fighting engine at all. Its the engine that ppl disagree on.

"omg everyone buys DOA for boobies blah blah blah" by that logic anyone who has ever bought a JRPG is a fucking pedophile.

It is? The only ones who keep bringing it up are the people who don't like/play the series in the first place. Those that do like/play are too busy you know actually playing to notice.

Yeah, sure. It isn't the huge multi tiered arenas introduced in DoA2 which is the huge pull. Sorry if the titties look a little more realistic now. Less for you to troll about.

I remember when the original DOA came out. I can't believe how huge the franchise is now. I'm surprised there was even a DOA2! Really, it seemed like one of those games that really wouldn't go anywhere :lol

It looks good an after watching this and the gamespot videos a couple times it's definetly next gen graphics but it's like a small step in the next gen arena graphically. Some games , like Kameo even seem to have taken atleast a full step in that direction. I mean it basically has everything in it the last doa game did taken 1 , and only 1 notch up graphically. I could spend an afternoon pointing out to naysayers why the game looks better but really I shouldn't have to , the simple fact is has nice as it looks it doesn't look SO nice that it makes you shit your pants in excitement like the MGS4 trailer did for some. Moreso in the gamespot vids the game still doesn't quite seem finished- lei feng's mouth doesn't move to her quotes yet , certain objects don't quite look like they have interaction turned on yet. Really that table in the market stage should break but it just wobbles. I always thought of doa , after 2 atleast, as being a fighting game based on a kung fu flick and this one with its more detailed stage interactions seems to edge ever closer to that ultimate goal.

This game looks Good but not great..

Not that impressive, especially when looking at how impressive games like GRAW, AC4 and PGR3 are in motion....

looked good to me, but i definitely wont be buying it at launch. i may pick it up later if i hear great things about live (or after trying it myself on a rental). fighting games SUCK single player, and i have no one that would play doa4 with me nearby.

and btw, brad wong is great. i'm a quarter gay for him myself ;)

Boring visuals. Boring gameplay.

This a loose-loose situation.

Tekken will look and play a million times better. No, not because it's on PS3.

where is this AC4 everyone keeps talking about? i'd like to see that. actually kinda surprised it's coming for this platform to begin with.
