D.OMG.A4 Trailer Up

Wow that was retarded.

Why the fuck does it matter that it's been REDUCED? That's still the main draw of the game.
I always thought the main draw of the DOA games were the amazing graphics, the cool multi-tiered levels, tag team mode, and online play you don't get in any of the other Japanese 3D fighters. Well that's always been the main draw for me.

Unfortunately this 1up.com feature didn't really answer any of my questions regarding the single player portion of the game. The main question I have which will ultimately determine my willingness to purchase this game is whether they've added more substance and depth to the single player experience. If the game is still just a barebones 2 player fighter with a throw away single player experience then I think I'll have to spend my money elsewhere. The single player fighting game experience has gotten stale for me and I think this is the biggest area which Itagaki needs to work on moving the genre forward. If the single player combat in DOA was as exciting and challenging as it is in Ninja Gaiden I would gladly purchase this game.

The ETA for me us an even 4 minutes for me, also with OOL. Cablevision's Optimum online rocks. The best ISP in the country.

OOL is one of the fastest in the country, but not the best. It took me less than 2 minutes with Verizon FIOS and download accelerator. I can download everything at 2MB a sec with FIOS.

Boring visuals. Boring gameplay.

This a loose-loose situation.

Tekken will look and play a million times better. No, not because it's on PS3.
I don't understand how you can say the visuals are boring and not just be joking. The casino and wrestling ring levels are two the most exciting arenas I've ever seen in a fighting game. I think the animation of the character's looks really lifelike and there's some really cool detail on the character models like the fur shading on Zack's costume.

Tekken is a good fighting game franchise, but what's with all the stupid weird characters like the panda bear, the weird tree character, the kangaroo, the robot, the tiger wrestler? A lot of the character designs in Tekken are just stupid, it's a very strange game. Last generation the DOA series looked much better than Tekken and the lack of multi-tiered environments, online play, tag battle mode really made Tekken look inferior to the DOA series. Namco is a great developer, but they let the Tekken series lose a lot of it's luster last gen imho.

Whatever incite you attempted to bestow upon the rest of us was lost right about the point you misspelled "LOSE" :lol

Let me rephrase:

Foolish post. Foolish poster.

I'm assuming you meant insight though? :p

Oh please, don't put me in that "I don't like Dead or Alive cus I'm a Tekken fan."

Truth be told I'm not either. The only fighting game I enjoy is Virtua Fighter. And even still, the 3D fighting genre isn't something that I play too much. Now...2D...that's a different story.

Mostly it was in jest with James, I don't care if he gives the game a 10/10 simply because he's so close with Team Ninja, if he remaines unbiased and detached, that shows how great of a journalist he is, if he doesn't, oh well--seems like a nice guy, not trying to give him a hard time and I think it's cool that he's "like this" with some Eastern developers. And Itagaki seems like a cool guy.

It was late and I kinda made a retarded post. I apologize for that. However I still think this game is getting way too much praise for it's visuals.

I don't care about fur shading and those levels are pretty but still boring. That jungle level (from another movie) however did look hot. The main problem is the lack of variety and originallity in the characters and more so the moves~animations. They should dirty the game up a little with some effects. Atleast make tiny dust clouds when the characters move their feet or something. Why does it have to be so clean?

I prefer the different original characters in tekken to doa's boring and generic-doll-looking characters. Tekken has had it's share of gimmick characters, however the bear is balanced and controls like any of the other characters, the tree guy (mokujin) is a random character "character" and is well controlled by hardcore players, the tiger (King) is not really a tiger (surprise) and I consider him the coolest wrestling character in a fighter to date. I don't think DOAU looks better than Tekken 5. This has everything to do with the style and design of characters, environments and the animations. Not polys or textures.

Dead or Alive has nothing on Tekken's fighting system. DOA will never be regarded as a hardcore fighter like Tekken. Namco did the whole tag thing with Tekken Tag and is was very well implemented (tag moves, tag combos, tag juggles, special team-tag moves/combos). Tagging a character actually had a purpose other than having two characters. That is why Namco keeps the tag and normal game appart. It requires different balances in the fighting system. Tekken does not do larger scale environments, the combat is closer and the depth-mobility of the characters is more flexible.

I do agree that Namco should have put Tekken 5 online though.

Did you completely ignore any and all gameplay threads about DOA4? It looks quite a bit like DOA Tekken. Are you a high level Tekken player? Because if you are (which I kind of doubt) you would know that many deep fighting games play very differently at high levels when compared to two average players going at it. So you're average levels of play in DOA (or did you never get past the scrub stage?) do not reflect how the fighting system actually works.

In addition, a vast majority of real DOA players (the ones that actually took the time to learn the game in-depth), don't like tag mode and simply play singles. So you critizism of tag in DOA has no merit on how the game is played at tournament levels.

I suggest you read the gameplay thread and learn how DOA4 is looking quite a bit like DOA Tekken. Then you can rent DOA4, get online, and proceed to get your ass kicked in tag and singles by the people who actually know how to play the game at high levels. Maybe they'll even show you that the evasion is considerably better, rivaling Tekken's level of evasion and movement.

Bottom line... don't bash DOA4 for the mistakes past DOA titles have made and your inability to learn exactly how deep the series is (DOA 3.2 also borrows from Tekken/VF).

We linked to our hands-on which has a lot of info at http://teamninja.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3143956. Dunno if this helps, but it's from the hands-on sessions at TGS.

My main point was the visuals. I didn't throw in all that stuff in about Tekken, I just responded to it.

I'm sure the new doa will have some improvements but I highly doubt the series ever will match VF/Tekken.
