With how anticipated this album is they need to make a pop album. If they put out Homework right now they would get skewered.

By who? The critics and the people talking about Daft Punk on the internet would love a more underground album. The shows will sell out either way.

I think you underestimate the Daft Punk fanbase. The majority of people that are excited for this album are people born post 1990 whose first exposure was discovery. I'm sure a small percentage even know that Human After All exists. Daft Punk to most is a disco funk group, and that nowadays means choruses, melodies and vocal, not driving distorted kicks and acid 303s.

I'm slightly underwhelmed by it tbh. Don't like the vocals at all. Hopefully it'll sound better with the actual release.

I actually wouldn't mind the idea of them going a little bit more funky, I mean I wouldn't want them to release another Discovery or Homework. This seems like the next logical progression of what they want to achieve with their music. They don't have to rely solely on samples because they're creating the samples.

The album is going to be fine.

That was totally not what I expected. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't sound like Daft Punk at all to me.

I really kinda wish that I hadn't been listening to the two snippets over and over so much in the past few weeks. Kinda takes away from this.

Still hype.

sounds sick.
Daft Punk about to be eatin.

Thomas and Guy look fly as hell, suits and a damn chain. What's with all the Pharell haters, he sounds fine to me. Also, DJ Falcon, yessssss.

Yeah, that copy is way better, guys. I'm wondering if they are actually playing in that video wearing those metal gloves. I'm probably being a dumbass because it's just a video and they probably aren't actually playing.

They wouldn't actually wear those on-stage trying to play real guitar and shit, would they? That gif circulating yesterday with the dude turning the volume up on his guitar wearing the metal glove was pretty badass.

When Pharrel's voice breaks up and starts getting all digitized it's fucking awesome. I'm totally hyped for this shit.

We're up all night to get lucky.

Crazy people in this thread hating on the vocals. It *sounds* really good, and I'm convinced the complaints are coming from the curmudgeons who just don't want vocals in their Daft Punk, while completely ignoring the idea that this isn't a particularly new or terrible development for their music.

They're definitely tapping a retro vibe here, but in a good way. While there's definitely a hybrid disco/funk/80s sound here, it is also leaning a bit more specifically towards Italo Disco, which is a genre that doesn't get nearly enough exposure outside of Europe. Collaborating with Moroder basically seals it for me. This is going to be a great album.

Daft Punk are two cosmic heroes of positivity here to spread joy in our endarkened world with Random Access Memories of blissful encounters with the divine light of future disco.

Sorry, wasn't sure how familiar you were. Here are a couple that weren't huge hits but were pretty awesome(in my opinion)

Fatback Band - (Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop

T.S. Monk - Bon Bon Vie

No worries! I'm pretty well versed in most forms of music at least a basic level, so no worries. I haven't heard of either of these, so I'll check em both out! Thank you!

Edit - Yeeessssss. This is what I was looking for. I dig this.
