1. Diary of a Mad Black Woman...$21.9 million
2. Hitch......................................$20.4 million
3. Constantine............................$12 million
4. Cursed...................................$9.6 million
5. Man of the House....................$8.9 million

I would definitely love this kind of movie, but I never would have guessed that it would debut as the #1 movie, seeing as how the critics trashed it.

Good to see that the top 2 movies feature black star roles. :D

Yep. Horrible reviews. I didn't even know what it was, and my girlfriend mentioned she wanted to see it. Told her she was crazy. The black girl at my work was raving about it. I walked away quickly.

if you see me in a fight with a bear, don't help me fool, help the bear!

Damn that IS unexpected, especially considering how rarely they aired the commericals. I got to see this. Medea is hillarious, they need to do Medea's Family Reunion as the sequel.

I got dragged to see it by a girl who is apparently one of those "white girls obsessed with scoring a black man." She sat around the entire movie and begged for the guy playing Orlando to come take her. The movie was okay. Had a few funny moments, but otherwise unimpressive.

"Mama" plays do not make for good movies. Hell, "Mama" plays don't make for good plays for that matter either.

On that note, I'm reading reviews of Diary at Yahoo Movies and I'm liking how most every user review contains the words "racists," "haters," and "'they' just don't get it"

yeah I'm blown away. The movie probably sucks, but holy shit, there are no major black stars in it/major names attached to it and it still went to number one. That just has to be a first!

Diary Of A Mad Black Woman was a decently well known play too, i saw it a while back, my grandma has dvds of it and some other Tyler Perry plays, they're pretty entertaining... i'm no t too sure about the movie, looks kinda cheesy from the commercials, but i'll probably watch it...

Well listening to a mad Black woman probably won't improve her chances. Or maybe it will I haven't thought it out yet.

Lions Gate Home Entertainment, a division of Lions Gate Entertainment, has acquired the home video distribution rights for the works of Tyler Perry, it was announced today by Lions Gate Entertainment President Steve Beeks. The seven-DVD deal comes on the heels of the powerful $21.9 million opening weekend gross of the first-ever feature film adaptation of one of Mr. Perry's works, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, as well as Lions Gate Films' recent announcement to produce and distribute Perry's second adaptation for the big screen, Madea's Family Reunion, slated for a February 2006 theatrical release.

That was quick :lol

I've never heard of that movie. I don't even know if they're playing it in Canada.
I haven't heard of it either, but I live by Detroit so we get some US TV, so I figure I should've seen a commercial at least once... but I don't think so.

Everyone at work has seen that movie. But this is like the ghetto-ist place I have ever worked at. They actually had a viewing of the bootleg here Tuesday. Yes, I work in the Twilight Zone. A bunch of fat, gossiping Black women here raving about the movie like it was the best movie of all time. With all that said, I am thinking the movie will die a fast death at the box office. But I am sure in one week it has made all it's money back and then some so I would look for a sequel next year.

edit- I was practically living with a Mad Black Woman. It really wasn't too much funny about that situation.

wtf?! is this movie even good?

i seen posters all over the place for it here in new york but just ignored it cause it just looked too silly.

It is loosely based on a series of plays starring most of the people in the movie. They were the Black plays that travel the US. Kinda religious, comedy/musicals usually about how fucked up men are or how children grow up not to appreciate there parents. Defintiely something that women are attracted to.
