Damn it, where in the hell is this week's Comic Book thread?!

I've searched and searched and can't find that damned thing.

This week was a pretty big haul from the 50¢ box!

Lots of crap, completely random, and totally cheap.

Invincible #22, I hear this book is good. More tights - last issue didn't grab me, but hey - 50¢! :D

Son of Vulcan #2, I've got an unhealthy appreciation for Keron Grant's art. :(

The Authority / Lobo: Spring Break Massacre, I used to like Lobo and it's got the original creative team.

Iron Man: House of M(anga) #2, Tony Stark's daddy doesn't wub him. Wah! Wah!

Catwoman #45, because an Adam Hughes cover is only worth 50¢!

The Goon #13, quite possibly the one book I'm really not going to mock on this list.

New Warriors #2 - Do not smell my stink of sh#t! I enjoyed the first issue in a total throw-away fashion. :(

Kinda slow week this week. I'm hitting the shop this weekend. I know I'll pick up Rann/Thanagar #6, Return of Donna Troy #4(hello old friends;) ) and the new JSA. Other than that, don't see TOO much.

$2.50 for a comic book? Do they come with chewing gum or anything?

That would add up. Especially reading multiple weekly comics.

I guess I'll just stick to reading the comics in the newspapers.

How much does a comic book run, now a days?

I'm thinking of looking into a few, for the right price

Find a shop with a good 25-50¢ bin for the shitty pamphlets and buy trades of stuff you want to own from Borders when they're running those awesome sales they have. The public library is also a good place to read for free.

Rann/Thannagar War was interesting, but suffers from basically being a middle chapter between Planet Heist (which I liked better) and Infinite Crisis. It's Tie-in-a-riffic.

Very slow week... as a matter of fact even though I read my books last night... nothing sticks out... oh except that Megan is dad... <again>... oh and the Wonder Woman book was kinda interesting... kinda... what exactly are her power levels anyway?

I picked up:

DETECTIVE COMICS #812 - Whomever decided to do a f'n year long pre-wargame story should be f'n shot in the damn head. This is the last damn Detective comic I buy til it catches up with the current timeline.

WONDER WOMAN #221 - See above.

INCREDIBLE HULK #87 - So that's how you pull off a post House of M story without giving away the resolution of House of M... meh....

SUPREME POWER NIGHTHAWK #2 - meh

UNCANNY X-MEN #465 - Wow... didn't think they'd bump off
Megan
but wait what's this this is what I was born to do shit? I've apparently forgotten what the hell her powers were....
Elemental Megamorph
...huh?

Very slow weeks as others have said. The calm before the Infinite Crisis storm.....

But yes cmics are very expensive anyore and it truly des suck. I have 4 hobbies (marvel Legends figures, WWE/TNA figures, comics & games) and comics is slowly being pushed to the back of the pack. You rack up a huge bill real quick.

Reading American comic books isn't terribly cheap. Try reading some manga - ten bucks gets you approximately 200 pages. If you're into samurai drama, go for Lone Wolf and Cub or Samurai Executioner; each series is printed in smaller volumes that give you 300 pages for your sawbuck.

Both of those are well worth your money. Two absolutely great series. I'm waiting on the first volume of Lady Snowblood as well from the same author.

Also, I picked up Buddha on (I think) FnordChan's recommendation, and it's proving enjoyable.

Well the cost has sky rocketed lately... if you'll notice older books are on terrible news print paper. That was fairly cheap.

Mid 90's companies started changing over to high gloss stock with really high quality printing. The cost effectively doubled when that became the standard. Paper isnt cheap as it is.

Glad you're enjoying Buddha! If you want more Tezuka in a similar vein, check out Phoenix.

Oh, and I forgot to mention my pull list for this week: Albion #3 (of 6), Wonder Woman #221, Fell #2, New Thunderbolts #13, Powers #13, and Maison Ikkoku Vol. 13. A good solid pile, though not overwhelmingly exciting or anything. The highlight of the week is almost certainly going to be the second issue of Fell, Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith's experiment with crime fiction and a $1.99 price point.

As Paul 'O Brian points out, Fell is a bit like the Frank Ironwine one-shot Ellis did a while back, and as I dug the hell out of that I was predisposed to enjoy the first issue of Fell. Dense and thoroughly enjoyable - go spend your two bucks on it and report back.

Looking forward to FN:Spiderman next week... :)

I wonder how "The Other" will turn out. The spidey whore in me wants to read it as it comes out, but after all the shit in ASM I fear ....shit.

Looking at the covers, it look like
spidey ends up in a cocoon
