Damsel in distress… need Firefox help please

Boys, I need to pick your brilliant minds.

Firefox crashed on me last night when I was trying to open Gmail. Upon my next attempt at log on, it prompted me to choose a profile. I went to choose “default”, but it wouldn’t allow me (saying it was already in use) and advised me I needed to create a new profile, which I stupidly did.

Now I can’t access all my old bookmarks and such, and I can’t work out how to get back to restore my profile to the default.

Can one of you kind gentlemen please be of assistance?

I can't help with your current problem but if the first part ever happens again I found that all you have to do is ctrl+alt+del and end firefox.exe and then restart firefox.

Find the Firefox profiles on your computer and delete the new one manually. Than relaunch Firefox and see if it uses your old profile as the default.

My dad did this to his main office machine awhile back and I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to bring back the default profile for him like he wanted. I think that what I ended up doing was finding the bookmarks somewhere and moving them to the new profile. I don't think that you can retrieve everything associated with the old profile.

Your profiles should be somewhere like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

Mac OS X -- ~/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<Profile name>/
~/Library/Application Support/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<Profile name>/

Why thank guys for your assistance. I have located the option to find my new profile and delete that, and try to select the default one once more...

...however it tells me "Firefox cannot use the profile "default" as it is already in use. Please choose another profile or create a new one"

So I am back to square 1. I have shut down Firefox, so how do I stop it from being in use?

1. Close Firefox completely (select File > Exit from the main menu of Firefox).
2. Select Start > Run... from the Windows Start menu.
3. Enter firefox.exe -profilemanager and press OK.

On Linux or Mac, start Firefox with the the -profilemanager switch, e.g. ./firefox -profilemanager (this assumes that you're in the firefox directory).

something like this should open
profilemanager1.png

choose the default, if it tells you the profile is in use, restart your computer, and repeat

Thank you, thank you to all, the crises is over, I am back in business!

Your assistance was much appreciated.

May the force be with you, always.
