Dan leaving Giant Bomb?

Evil Calvin

Afraid of Boobs
He had a rant last night apparently, going off on Fandom, and their sweeping changes. It has since been taken down, but it seems from what people said, that it looks like he sais that he is done making content for Giant Bomb.

Anyone have an archived copy of the stream?

I haven't seen any but I did see some "big beats" regarding what was said...
  • Fandom plan on changing the site completely. He alluded to having to get his content approved
  • The change are too stupid for him and he said he wont be on any new GB content anymore because he does not want to work for Fandom
  • He does not care if they fire him
  • Stuff like Blight Club will continue soon in some way probably not on the site anymore
  • This week Bombcast was most likely the last one period

Well he left GB before. They are not good or interesting or produce anything worth listening to.
Yeah. Ever since Covid in 2020 they really went downhill. You would think working from home everyday would encourage them to produce content at a greater rate as they could stream remotely. No, they had like 10 people and the content dropped. It got better when Grubb came aboard but still not nearly as good as when Jeff, Vinny, Alex, Brad and Dan were there.

All of these glitzy outfits are going to die sooner or later. Because they're tied to corporate ownership or venture capital, they attract people with worldviews, politics, and appearances that turn off Joe Gamer.

Giant Bomb, Easy Allies, Gamespot, Kotaku.

Soon even Kinda Funny will fall apart for similar reasons. Ah well.

Nah, Kinda Funny is built for success in pretty much every way. The others I agree with you but not Kinda Funny.

Yeah, I watched an archive of the podcast's episode before it was taken down.

They all took the piss out of Fandom's new guidelines through the entire episode.

It's just ridiculous and whoever the new Fandom management are, they seem to have absolutely no idea how the internet works. They were allowed only one Fuck through the episode and were told to not talk about violent or sexually suggestive stuff... I mean that basically cuts them talking about every M rated game ever.

Kinda Funny fell apart when Colin got removed because of a tweet.

Yeah, that one is out there. But Dan had his own rant on his Twitch channel last night (which is gone now) where he ranted heavily and chugging beer. I have not seen it though.

Giant bomb still exists?

Didn't a bunch of softies take over and then it died.
It was bought by Fandom a few years back I believe and they got rid of a few dead weight people. They brought in Jeff Grubb, who is actually the best one on there and isn't annoying (and he actually knows his shit).

didn't they like prop up the likes of Alyssa Mercante though and have those cringe streams where she shouts at people to fight her and stuff.

I just assume it died after doing stuff like that.

without the OG crew what is even the point of GB

I fell off following Giant Bomb quite a while ago, but will still check out Jeff Gerstmann content on YouTube once in a while. His Ranking the NES series is really good for those of you who like retro games.

The energy on Giant Bomb dipped a little after Ryan passed away and I remember Dan brought that back although he was occasionally grating.

I'm surprised it's lasted this long without any of the original members. Dan leaving has to be the final nail in the coffin.

Whelp, looks like Giantbomb, as we've known it, is just as good as dead.

Guess that coffin is already nailed down...

Yeah, they're Easy Allies tier. They are irrelevant in the current media landscape. Kinda Funny doesn't look much better either. I hear about all three on this forum but no one is watching them.

I don't even know who works for Giant Bomb for anymore but they are probably getting decent salaries. It's easy for these guys to blame ownership, but they're getting fuckin 3k views. Why would anyone pay you a salary for that. Mid tier streamers like lord arnis get way more views and nobody is paying them a salary.

Their content output was laughable.

Literally just needed post videos of themselves playing games and talking about said games and they couldn't even manage with an entire team.

Easy Allies already lost most of their "big hitters". They lost Brandon, Ben, Kyle, and Brad. Giant Bomb has been effectively dead for quite awhile ever since the mass exodus. GameSpot I don't know a single person that even goes there, and Kotaku is Kotaku.

Kinda Funny I don't see falling apart though. I don't care for them (stopped watching when Colin left and everything that went down just put a bad taste in my mouth plus Tim is a cunt and while I have fond memories of Greg due to IGN and early KF the fact he sold out his best friend for internet points disgusts me).

Last Stand is the only gaming "outlet" that I actually care about. LSM makes stupid money and doesn't bother with any of the stuff that a lot of places do. All of their podcasts are just recorded from home and they don't have a studio or any of that bullshit that costs money.

I fell off Giant Bomb and most podcasts in general mid PS4 era. Dan was the only non-OG member that I recognize. I have no idea what they are now.

I definitely think they had a special thing going in the whiskey media days. Currently though I'd rather the game surprise me than have a bunch of things spoiled about it before playing.

Yeah, strangely enough, Last Stand Media and Kinda Funny are the two outfits that are built for long-term success (and they have completely oppositional business/content philosophies).

Best mid tier streamer in existence IMO, lol.

But yeah, it's clear they just don't know how to make decisions, or just really don't even care. I feel like once Gerstmann, Scanlon, Caravella, and Shoemaker were no longer attached it plummeted for me. I feel like a lot of their viewers and supporters left with them as well. When Davis passed it was certainly felt, but it was still held together by them IMO. But once they were gone, it felt like it was no longer necessary at all.

Ryckert and Grubb felt like the only people that were involved that felt like that had what they had. Everyone else... not so much.

It's a damn shame. Sure, the "glory days" of the site were long in the past, but it was still a decent place to check out some videos and podcasts from time to time. Only rather occasionally in my own personal case, granted, but I'd say they appeared to be chugging along in spite of everything.

Now they're just going to keep the brand and make it into something completely different. Which will destroy any inherent value to the brand and it'll become worthless.

Yeah....I mean what did they all do all day? Meetings? Meetings for what? Most didn't make any videos at all. One Bombcast episode a week and that was about it really.

And let's be real this content is just cut down stream footage done by lord n0pants. He puts in 0 effort into this.

Lord Angus could have WAY more YT views if someone else ran his channel to upload smaller footage, longer, etc on a more consistent schedule.

But he doesn't care lol. It's just some of extra cash for him and I think he gives 50%+ to n0pants anyway.

Sure do miss the glory days. The game of the year podcast was a great listen back in the day when the cast wasn't consumed by pathetic bay area politics.

Feels like we're about to get Dan's farewell tweet / blueskeet any minute now, too.
