Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

Game runs fine for me. It's when it decides to auto save, and the you get micropauses/freeze. Happens in combat too.

Yeah -- these are what I was talking about with the framerate tanking and the FPS counter showing values in the 30s/40s. It's absolutely game breaking for me when it happens, as it's USUALLY occuring in combat. When it happens outside of combat, I can deal with it, even if it's annoying, as it's not causing me to die. In combat it's unforgivable and unacceptable.

Game seems to be brutal on CPU.

FX6300 and 970, getting 40's at best at Max AND Min settings with out any discernible performance differences no matter how I set my graphics settings.

FPS tanks when accessing graphics options.

Damn, I'll wait for a patch then, I have the same CPU but a far weaker GPU.

Anyone get DualShock 4 working on DS3? I've got DS4Windows installed but can't seem to get it to recognize controls in the menus. Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider works fine.

Anyone getting hitches timed to the game saving?

Yes, the very frequent saving also drops the sound for a second in my case.

The graphic settings part of the menu becomes very unresponsive when trying to change or select anything.

There's slowdown and stuttering when I try to run on High when my PC should be able to handle Max @ 1080p.

Only at the first boss but everything seems to be running a steady 60 so far. (Max detail @ 1080p)

The only issue I'm having is with audio.

I started in Fullscreen and got a bunch of crashes. Since then, I've been playing in windowed mode with no crashes. Might want to try it and see if it fixes it.

Runs overall pretty fair on my system, considering... i7-2600K @ 3.4GHz, GTX-680 2GB. Performance is pretty inconsistent. Generally stays around the mid-30s at High settings, but occasional drops into the 20s, and spikes up near 50 depending on what I'm looking at. I know that card's pretty long in the tooth, but I'm holding out for Pascal X80ti later this year.

Some horrific spots in Firelink, though. Standing up behind Lothric's throne, and looking towards the door gets me drops into the teens. Turning around to look at the wall, and I'm at 50+. Crazy variance there. Most of Firelink is in the 20s for me.

All this is at 1440p, by the way.

I haven't been back in with lower settings to see if it stabilizes yet.

I did notice some really tiny microstutter whenever it saves, but right after I killed Gundyr (on my first try!!), it was suddenly hanging for about a half a second or so, repeatedly, until I left the area and proceeded up towards Firelink. I don't know if it was loading something or what, but it was pretty damn bad.

I'm also noticing some odd visual glitches at the edge of the frame when turning the camera, like it'll draw the area, and then suddenly more of the area will pop in. I'm guessing that's some kind of limitation of the engine, but I never noticed it in Bloodborne.

I'll go back in with super-low settings and see what it gets me.

My PC sounds like it's being murdered, I didn't check if it was the CPU or GPU, running 1080p@60fps no issues but the noisy fans.

Getting 60fps (pretty much constant) on all High settings (with motion blur off), except when the game decides to write to disk.

Then my framerate tanks. I get a choppy slideshow, the Steam FPS overlay says 35, 49, etc...

The game was originally installed to the SSD my OS is on, but the problem was happening all the time, so I moved it to my 3TB steam drive. It happens less frequently now, but still happens (and at the worst times).

Anyone else have this? Any ideas on a solution?

Also fun -- if you have a DS4 and are using DS4 windows be wary of hitting the touchpad. I've hit it once or twice and it disables all controller input until I exit the game, stop DS4Windows, start DS4Windows, then start DS3 again.

What build # of Win 10?

I know someone who just upgraded but got stuck at the initial OS level and couldn't get Windows Update to recognize he was downlevel and hadn't received the November update. I think this is build 10240. If you don't have a newer build than that, it's possible that DS4Windows is having trouble grabbing your controller in exclusive mode, which would render it unable to hide the dinput.

I am using build 10586.

I switched my armor and stuff, now the game is crashing every time I roll, jump or fall, wtf. Running around is fine.

I should put my old armor back and see what happens.

gtx 760, v 1.03. running at a pretty consistent 60 FPS at Max except Low Lighting to deal with a glitch. very happy with the performance overall. hdd load times are short.

What settings have the biggest impact on performance relative to visuals? I'm very close to locked 60 with max settings, I just want to put a bow on it.

Played for about 40 minutes, defeated the first boss and lit 2 bonfires, no crashes. I'm on Nvidia 361.75 drivers and the game runs perfect on these specs:

MSI GTX 970

Game is installed on an HDD

Can't get my 360 controller to work. When i went to character creation and the character is rotating as if I'm holding down the right stick (even if I unplug the controller. Anyone have any ida how to fix this.

Also, JESUS CHRIST would it kill From to let you level up at the bonfires?

It's no coincidence DS1 is regarded as the best of the saga and also the one without a stupid level up waifu.

e: wrong thread?

Used the preset character to see if the camera issue I saw in character creation was in game too. It is. The game is literally unplayable for me right now.

Been having constant crashes, roughly every 5-10 minutes. Tried lowering the lighting setting, tried setting all graphics options to low, tried windowed mode, tried lowering the resolution. Nothing works. Very frustrating.

Lighting on Low stops my CTDs. I was able to get a few hours in crash free, turned lighting back up and the crashes came back. Lighting back down, crash free since. It's the only option I'm changing. Maybe medium will work. Only setting I haven't tried. It seems to perform about the same regardless.

Just a heads up to those using nvidia cards. Those latest drivers have issues on some cards causing the clock speeds of the memory / core not to ramp up when gaming causing certain games to run terrible frame rates.

I had the opposite problem. My SLI 980ti setup wouldn't downclock at the temp limit (87c) and my cards would run up to 90C. Had to rollback to fix it.

Having problems with big picture and this game. If I launch in big picture I can't get the steam overlay to pull up. (trying to play with the steam control and modify it to get it right).

I also had the steam fps counter dissapear.

Also am now having the game tell me I can not play online because it noticed framerate issues. This was after I went into advanced settings (it auto set everything to high) and lowered shader detail (on a 970). After that it gives me the framerate error and even when I set everything back it still says that.

When the steam FPS counter was working it was showing pretty solid 60 with some minor drops to 59.

No crashes at all though

Constant crashes. Near bonfires almost all the time, but sometimes in random places.

Getting them pretty frequently. Very disappointing. Not sure who to be angry at Nvidia or From because Nvidia drivers have been pretty shit lately.

Which camera issue?

The camera just spins around endlessly as if someone is holding down a stick of a controller. Thing is I've tried disconnecting all my controllers and even my mouse and KB in game and nothing is stopping it. I'll try a few more thing but I may have to try reinstalling the game.

I'd say Nvidia. I tried running it on an original Kepler Titan just out of curiosity and it crashed left, right and center. No crashes in over 2 hours on my main Titan X, though. Go figure! ;-)

i5 2500k stock, GTX970 (364.72), 8GB RAM

First launch of the game (and 3 hours straight in it, not online since it was impossible to connect right after launch), game to the max/1080p, was having some really unruly framerate that kept going from 60 to 50 if not 40. It was strange this setting the game on Minimum setting didn't change anything. I also noticed a pretty aggressive LOD during my session, and also texture streaming issue after teleporting to a bonfire (for 1-2 seconds maybe, but definitely noticeable, but the fact is it's just strange for such a game).

After reading things about GPU not using its full potential, I decided to go to the NVidia Panel, and I forced the Thread Optimization on "True", and Power Management on "Maximum Performance". After rebooting the game (and connecting online, if it might change anything but wonder how it would), LOD is a lot less agressive, no more texture streaming issue and I finally got a stable 60FPS everywhere. Maybe a drop to 59 here and there, but this might be a framepacing issue here. Pretty happy now, but there's definitely something wrong with either the driver or the game.

PS : I also got some little slowdown when UI pop on-screen, like many others.

Crashes for me also near the first bonfire. Seems to work if I put lighting to low, but it sucks to have to do that.
