Playing Dark Souls 3 for the first time, I'm going to do a livestream of my blind run for those interested: https://www.twitch.tv/sephizack2
What builds do people recommend? With Souls games in the past I have usually gone for a dexterity focus and weapons with bleed status effects but looking for a slightly different route. Edit: quick note won't be doing PvP just PvE.
So now that it is out, how is all of the DLC? Is it worth picking up for $20?

That's pretty much Souls games in a nutshell though. I felt like Ariandel was way better about lore and story stuff than usual. I was actually interested for once and felt like the game was giving me something to work with. It wasn't mostly just ultra vague item descriptions this time.Just beat Ashes of Ariandel, which I'm conflicted about.
On one hand, it didn't feel very substantial. It's not long - it felt about the same length as the Crowns DLC - but that doesn't really bother me because it is quite dense. It just felt like nothing happened. There were a shit ton of enemies, which is fine, but so little actually happens in it. The Corvian Settlement is the strongest area; it's a striking image with a clear history to it. The others are still engaging, but they don't hold anything of interest, seeing as they're just a snowy field, a snowy forest, and an ice rink. You just go where the level design takes you and ransack the place along the way.
To be fair, Gundyr is surprisingly tough with the wrong approach. Hugging him and being super aggressive is the way to go. It's kinda funny, I saw Souls veteran streamers dying to him multiple times at launch because they were being overly cautious. So I beat everything and got 100%.
New character, I can't even get past the tutorial boss.
Oo
No idea.I wanted to buy Splitleaf Greatsword from the stone-humped hag at Dreg Heap. But it says stock depleted. I'm pretty sure i didn't buy it from her. Any idea how to get it?
Which weapons are best for a strength build? PVE only

As usual, first the technical stuff. It's a regulation update, so it's mostly server-side. It will be deployed at the following time on April 5th:
Timezone Consoles STEAM
JST 11:00am 6:00pm
CEST 4:00am 11:00am
PST 7:00pm 2:00am
The patch will include the following changes:
Reduced damage of the light arrows fired by "Angels"
The sorcery "Hidden Body" is now effective against "Angels"
Reduced the damage of homing spears released from "Spear of the Church"
Reduced the amount of bonus absorption the "Spear of the Church" receives during 1vs2, 1vs3 and 1vs4 games (1vs1 is unaffected)
Reduced the amount of HP "Church Guardian" has during a 1vs1 match (1vs2, 1vs3 and 1vs4 are unaffected)
Increased damage and scaling of simple, crystal, fire, chaos, lightning, dark, deep and blessed infusions
Increased damage of raw infusions
Reduced damage and scaling of heavy infusions at lower weapon levels
Increased scaling of sharp infusions, and increased damage gain at high levels of dexterity
Reduced scaling of heavy infusions on lighter weapons
Reduced damage of "Exile Greatsword"
Reduced damage for L1(LB) attacks, and increased stamina consumption for L1(LB) attacks and weapon art "Ember" of "Ringed Knight Paired Greatswords"
Fixed a bug where the weapon art "Wind Wheel" of "Splitleaf Greatsword" was applying more status effects than intended
Fixed a bug where fully charged R2(RT) attacks of "Profaned Greatsword" and "Black Knight Greatsword" were not consuming additional stamina
Fixed a bug where the weapon art of "Preacher's Right Arm" would combo for more hits than intended
Fixed a bug where the weapon art of "Painting Guardian's Curved Sword" would combo for more hits than intended
Increased damage of Toxic dealt by players, but reduced the penalty to stamina regeneration
Quick analysis:
A bit of balancing on the angels, frustrating for a lot of players, a bit of balancing on Spears of the Church as well. A lot of balancing on infusions, and a quick nerf the meta weapons, especially RKPGS which is becoming problematic. Please note it's still a tentative balance, done through a regulation update so we didn't have the same liberty as with a full patch, we'll see how it evolves.
The infamous combo on the Painting Guardian Curved Sword should also be fixed in the update.
Enjoy!
anyone know how much the average scaling attack value goes up each higher grade?...for example how many attack points does the average weapon go up from a B scaling to an A scaling...and for each higher grade does the value go up equally (from C to B from B to A etc)
example: if the Greatsword Regular +10 has 318 damage with a C scaling and the Greatsword Heavy +10 has 294 B, which is better?...the one with the better scaling has 24 points less damage, so will the scaling itself give you more then 24 points to make up the difference?
Have you tried this AR calculator? https://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls3/weapons
but it's more of a general question I was asking about...in terms of scaling do all weapons scale the same way in terms of increased damage points...going from a C to B scaling etc do you get the same increase in damage points
Doesn't even look like Evi, I am disappoint Neo!
believe me i tried for hours lol got one close. probably have 20 hours in the character creator lol i was just using another preset i changed to and ran out of respecs
the 5 times limit is seriously stupid...
also at that nerf patch...
hope the infusion buff is big
I only played about an hour of DS2 so I can't say. It just feels as if I'm at huge speed deficit compared to the enemies. Maybe if I two-hand the spear it'll be more efficient. I dunno. It's all I have though. I've beaten the first boss before but it's starting to look like that was luck. The combat is faster than Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2
Is your equip load at 70% or over? You should definitely try to keep it lower than that. Also, if an enemy feels unreasonably difficult, you're probably not supposed to fight them yet, such as theI only played about an hour of DS2 so I can't say. Man, it's been a long time. Nice seeing the thread still alive.

Man, invasions fucking sucks in this game. Why I keep coming back to them?
Yeah, I served a 4 monther. I didn't and still don't agree with it, and I considered never returning many times. I'm only posting in Souls-related threads. But, happy to be back. Will update the OP soon. Loving the high frame rate on ps4 pro. Honestly though, I've been playing the shit out of DS1 on the xbox one via backwards compatibility. It's just so good.Man, invasions fucking sucks in this game. Why I keep coming back to them?
Lol I think I saw you banned?, must been quite some time.
Welcome back, anyway.
Hey, finally picked this up with all the DLC. This is my first run. I'm ok with mild spoilers (wouldn't be in this thread otherwise). Is there anything that folks consider a "must-do" in a first playthrough?
I'm basically running my OG Dark Souls character in terms of build (High dex/End, low HP Ninja) and been pretty satisfied with the results. I'm right before. Gear is Uchigatana +4, Darkwraith armor set, Dragon Crest Shield. The Abyss Watchers
I love how smooth the game feels. The animation quality is a HUGE jump from DS1 and everything just feels more responsive. I'm really impressed by the fit and finish of the game.
What's a good melee weapon for a pyro (and later dark magic) build?
I'm finally getting around to a magic build and I never play around with weapons in this game because there's so many I just stick to old favourites, regular weapons, is there anything unusual or especially suited?
Not really. NPCs questlines are extremely finicky, but if you actually go through the steps to do them properly it'll ruin your first experience with the game. It's just tedious.
There are a few optional areas but you can always get around to them later. The game asks you before sending you to NG+ so there's no rush.
