Darkness II - Hatred Resurfaced Trailer

hmm, had no idea they changed the visual style from dark/UE:y to leaning more towards cel-shading.

This is not even close to cel-shading.

It's black outlines and illustrated textures.

It's alright if you can't read but don't put words in my mouth.

"leaning more towards cel-shading."

Leaning
more
towards

-> never said it was cel-shading.

God damn, it looks NOTHING like something reminiscing cel-shaded rendering at all! ._.

I'm excited that they're making a sequel, but I have little hope for this without Starbreeze at the helm. Still, I may play it if it's decent.

It looks good- I loved the first, and really enjoyed the gritty gun play mixed with insane demon arm violence. I think the cell animation (edit: not completely shaded, more illustrated as pointed out above) will certainly bring out a more graphic novel style, but I do hope Acevedo is back doing voice work.

Sam in that other thread was pretty excited about it. Seems they're really pushing for that black outline comic book style. Want to see some direct feed gameplay before I make further judgements.

Looked... pretty decent actually. I'm gonna switch my hypeknob to "cautiously optimistic". Still can go either way.

How do they explain the ending of the first game?

Whaddayamean?

Looks surprisingly good, still really cautious as to the length and the content value as multi is sure to be a ghost town as the true kings of multiplayer are coming this year.

Something about the trailer bothers me. It's like they're trying too hard to imitate the tone of the first game.

Hate to burst your bubble but Kirk Acevedo has been replaced by Nolan North.

Well it kinda made it clear to me he died. The darkness took over completely, next he's resting his head on Jenni's lap (who's already dead) on a park bench then it ends.

The Darkness cannot die, there will always be one. The Darkness took over, Jackie didn't die. Jennie even tells him "you have to wake up now." I had to look it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMqH7BvMLdM
The only way the carrier of the Darkness can die, is if The Darkness finds a new host.
IIRC Jackie gets ripped to shreds in the comics at one point, and the Darklings carry his remains to the docks where he regenerates in the dark.

Still can't believe they couldn't get Kirk Acevedo to voice Jackie, his vocal work on the first was brilliant. Instead we end up with Nolan North.....

Sucks they lost Jackie's VA.

Looks like a dark Borderlands type deal. I like the greater emphasis on the Darkness tentacles though.

visually, its lacking......darkness

im gonna go against what GAF seems to hold religious, it has a bit too much bright colors

There were a few visually interesting moments, but I dunno... you can just kinda tell that the gameplay mechanics are going to be unsatisfying.

The changed art style completely destroys this game for me. I wanted a sequel really bad (though from Starbreeze...), but I just can't stand this shit.
This fucking sucks :(

(though ripping enemies into bloody pieces with the tentacles would have been nice in the first game)

Wow really? I actually like it more because everything is hand drawn. The moon and the sky looked awesome, as do the characters. I am happy this stands out from the masses in terms of looks.

Awesome trailer. Voice work's not bad. Patton's back, which is awesome.

Also, North is just temporary according to the developers. Anyway in the trailer, I did not detect his Drake voice, so all is good?

The original batch of screens looked a little disappointing, but the game in motion really works and the story seems just as twisted and mental as the first game.

Also loving the heavy gore and facial animations. The first game had an amazing atmosphere and sense of immersion that I doubt this follow up can top, but I willing to bet the story will be on par (due to creative talent) and the gameplay / gunplay far more refined (shooting and movement in the first game was janky as hell).

Also it's nice to see a PC version, hoping they bring over the first game via Steam as a sort of pack in, as I've only played through it once on PS3, and it wasn't the nicest of ports.

No one can top Starbreeze so not expecting much.

Really wish they were keeping the visual style of the first game, though the "cell-shaded" look isn't nearly as cartoony as I thought it would be. Loved the original, can't wait!
