Darksiders 2 is a masterpiece

it's such a shame the first 2 games didn't have a very high budget for a more cinematic experience like GOW and the like. because the lore is great about the 4 horsemen and so on is epic. the gameplay mechanic itself is fun too. its just lacks the polish in graphics / high graphics that hindered it down.

Better combat than any Zelda, God of War, or Souls game if you are at a comparable level to enemies. Nails the perfect balance between challenge, attacks having impact, and styling on opponents. Parkour is up there too, but limited by level design.

The only Darksiders I haven't finished. Will try again with the latest version but could't get the older ones to run on the steamdeck.

I was hyped through the roof for its original release. I enjoyed it and I think the main character was more fun than the first game, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece.

It had some major technical problems on PC but the second game was really good. Especially on storywise. When I was first playing the game I was really dumbfounded how they nicely tied it to the first game. Also I love this serie that with every game they try different genre and somehow it works. Again, I say that Darksiders games are not "perfect" but each of them are very enjoyable.

And Death is so much loveable compare to War and Fury. I was laughing his sarcastic comments so much but aside from that he was giving perfect "big brother" (which he is in fact older then the rest) example in the game.

I enjoyed the first one more but Darksiders 1 & 2 are great (the gear/loot system in the 2nd one never clicked for me). Never really got into 3, I tried it on my PS4 back in the day and remember the performance not being great. Might try it again on my PC or Steam Deck now that I think about it.

The Isometric spin off was also pretty damn good, I platinumed it on my ps4 and overall had a blast with it even if it was a bit mindless/simplistic.

I enjoyed it,but I think the first one is better overall......Darksiders II suffers from bloat and it seems they still managed to run out of time/money as the later levels are much smaller than earlier ones.I like both games though, never got around to the third one.

No joke, but I liked first one and to some extend even the third one better. Hell, I even completed the isometric one but bailed on 2

It was good at start but then became a do these 3 things to proceed further. Loot weapon system was a hit or miss. Other than Guardian no other boss was memorable. Overall I liked it but 1st was better.

I loved Death as a character and thought he was the highlight of the game. Agreed on the music and I enjoyed the variety in the environments. There were so many surprises there for me and exploration was rewarding too - I stumbled into many hidden quests and treasures. I loved the first game too and initially wasn't sure of the change in format, but wound up appreciating those differences quite a bit.

Darksiders II is an incredible game that has aged remarkably well.

For me, this game is truly spectacular.
I agree with all your points. I love Darksiders 2. My only complaint is the ending. All this buildup from completing an epic journey, and a very satisfying final boss fight, just for it to end extremely abruptly once the fight is over. The ending to 1 is one of my favorite game endings, it's unfortunate that the ending for 2 isn't anywhere near as good or climactic because the game itself is very good. I like how ambitious they were in their approach to making part 2.

Darksiders is one of my favorite new IPs that's been around for a while. What an absolutely incredible series but I have to disagree that Darksiders 2 is the best. I would put the first game and the third game above it. It's a lot of fun but I really don't like diluting aspect.

Also the game has a weird consistency. The first part of the game is very heavy on the puzzle solving. You really have to know what to do to defeat the bosses. It was both frustrating but fun.

The second half when you go into the underworld just seemed a lot easier than the first part and less focused on the puzzles at least when it came to the boss fights.

I had a great time plying Darksiders 2, it's my favorite in the series. It could have been a masterpiece if they had worked more on the late game areas and not had to cut them short to release the game.

Having enjoyed the first darksiders, I was taken back by how shit the sequel is. My main gripe was the character felt like it was on ice. Couldnt get past that, so sacked it.

The actor who plays Death was really good. I forgot the actor's name but he's the one who played Top Dollar in The Crow.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but it's definitely not a masterpiece. The level design is so boring and drab. The game also massively outstays it's welcome and feels even longer due to the boring design.

First game is the best in the series.

Definitely not. Worse than the first in many ways.

Also lol @ thinking they gonna fix the pc port.. didnt they leave the previous ports in bad states too?
It's a completely different game. I liked it, but I was initially disappointed that it was not similar to the 1st game. Had I gone in with no expectations, I probably would have liked it from the start.

Combat was probably the only thing i liked more than the first one tbh, everything else was kinda worse.
Yep.
Itemization in particular became significantly worse.
They moved from "Zelda-like" to a Diablo-shaped compulsive looting of dozens and dozens of items and that didn't do the game any favour.

I don't think it's a masterpiece, I've tried to get into this game like 5 times but I always end up dropping it, it's just a a boring game imo.

Holy moly that song got me hyped I remember starting the first one and never finishing it like over a decade ago maybe I'll revisit the series

Its a good game but never grabbed me like the first one did. I loved the whole theme and pace of the first game and the artstyle aswell of the 1st game.

Running through this on the 5 and I think they did a great job on making the colors really pop this time around. The improved lighting and shading is nice as well. Smooth sailing with the performance so far too.

Really cool game. And I really hope I finish it this time

I played DS1 long ago and beat it. Thought it was "aight," but never messed with the rest of the franchise except Genesis. Gensis was free when i had a Google Stadia and as an avid ARPG fan I had a LOT of fun with it, but never completed it.

Fast forward to the DS4 announcement, and me hearing often DS2 is amazing. Sale on Steam had the whole franchise for $17! Well well well....

I'm like 2 hours into Darksiders 2 and this game is fucking incredible. The combat, RPG mechanics, art direction, music, voice acting, it's all sublime.

Why in the hell is this not a 10/10 10 million seller franchise each entry? Holy fuck this shits circles on most modern games especially in the action role playing game genre.

Unfortunately it had so much technical problems when it released. Some of them have been fixed but some of them won't be fixed I think because of harcoding. Lots of people experienced crashes, save deletion etc. etc. But if you look beyond these problems -which most of them fixed- the game is so much fun.

In this "New World" of ours, nobody has any patience or understanding. Most of the people focus on negativity and feed from these negative emotions. They also live their emotions to the fullest: Like the game --> Instant GOAT. Dislike the game --> Instant trash, burn it! No grey areas, just black and white.

So yeah. This game has problems, sure. But it really got a soul and you can feel the devs really put their best effort into this game. That's why I like it very much as well.

The major problem of DS2 and why i never finished is the loot system, a more simplistic approach like DS1 would be better imo

The way that the loot system spoil the pacing of the game is awfull, instead of moving foward trought this epic adventure you ll find yourself wasting lots of time in menus minmax loot, its awfull.

Darksirers 1 still the best game in the franchise

I finish last week Darksiders 2 Remastered PS5 version.

And not only confirm this is an inferior version of the first Darksiders, but also the PS5 version have a loads of bugs.
Not only that, buy if you remain playing the game for a certain amount of time, there is performance degradation, probably caused by memory leak.

Glad I got pc. It had its own issues with crashes. Had to cap fps in nvidia app to fix it but took a while to figure out that was the issue.

Darksiders II is an incredible game that has aged remarkably well. With the recent next-gen update, it delivers a fantastic experience on consoles, though the PC version currently has some issues that are expected to be fixed soon, developers confirmed this on discord.

For me, this game is truly spectacular. The soundtrack stands out, with many epic tracks that enhance the atmosphere. Combat is tight and visceral with a lot of different combos and types of weapons, fantastic boss fights, a dark story, and intriguing lore. Death, the main character, is well written, and his voice actor is really good. I love his sarcasm throughout the game. The gameplay is excellent, with climbing, puzzle-solving, and exploration all mixed seamlessly. The Metroidvania elements, like unlocking powers and gadgets to access previously unreachable areas, keep the game fresh and engaging in my opinion. Despite its age, the art style has stood the test of time, and the world feels expansive, with numerous unique areas to explore.

The game feels like a blend of the classic God of War trilogy and Zelda. It's a lengthy adventure, taking around 20-30 hours for completionists. If you haven't played it, you're missing out on a must-play action-adventure. The first game is great too, and while the third entry is the weakest, it's still a solid experience. But *Darksiders II is undoubtedly the best in the series, and a must-play for any action-adventure fan.

If I were to give a rating to the game it would be a 9 out of 10.

The music man...

Everybody wanted a continuation of Darksiders 1 based on that damn cliffhanger of an ending, including me. So, I believe people were salty about this. With Darksiders 1 playing like a Zelda clone. Peeps were disappointed by the fact this ended up being a dungeon crawler with loot. The time this was released. They had announced story DLC, too. I had already decided I wouldn't buy any game until the story DLC was included in a GOTY release or was discounted. I had played this after almost a year of being released. I don't recall hearing or seeing anything about bugs in the game. I recall enjoying the main campaign and the 3 or 4 DLC expansions with it. This game is def worth playing and not as shitty as some claim this game to be. If they were disappointed by the fact this doesn't play like the first one, get over it. Not every sequel needs to play the same. I won't be saying this is better than Darksiders 1, but everybody should play both.
