Dave Chappelle hosts SNL

It's sad what Chappelle has become. He's basically the clean-up guy for the democrats these days. Whenever there's a big political event, he does the rounds on the news and late night shows to try and set the culture. When Trump won in 2016, SNL immediately brings him on as host to trash the movement. When Kanye came out as a Trump supporter and went to the White House, Chappelle did the rounds on the news shows to make fun of Kanye and call him lost. When George Floyd overdosed on fentanyl, Chappelle immediately puts out the Youtube special to paint it as the most serious and racist thing of all time. And now right after the 2020 election he goes on SNL to shit on white people and Trump again.

Just really lame and sad.

Chappelle is hated by the left. He is routinely cancelled by cunts over at era. In fact, he went on SNL after the trump win and famously told everyone to give him a chance. He didnt immediately write off trump like everyone else did.

I’m not exactly sure how to think of chappelle, and that’s a good thing. I got a few laughs even though I’m tired of trump jokes. The end was nice.

It is refreshing whenever he strays from the left-approved agenda. Still, he is obviously trying hard to throw the left a few bones so he can do the material he truly wants to do and keep his platform

Wait, what? George Floyd overdosed on fentanyl? First I heard of this, tell me more...

lol Bullshit. He spent that whole monologue in 2016 saying Trump was a racist/sexist/troll while Obama was a great President who he didn't make fun of at all. Then he just ends by saying "I'm going to give him a chance and I hope he gives us a chance too." And then Chappelle proceeded to just keep trashing the guy over the next four years and everyone who supported him.

There is no official cause of death. But we know Floyd had 3X the lethal dose of fentanyl in his system during the arrest. We know he kept saying "I can't breathe!" during the entire arrest, even when he was standing up freely (Fentanyl overdoses are known for causing breathing difficulty). And we know he didn't actually die until he was in the hospital an hour after the arrest.

He looks good. That’s about all I can say about that set. Got a brief snicker once but that’s about it. Oh well, we’ll always have Half Baked and the first two seasons of his show 🤷‍♂️

If you think era represents all of "the left".. I just don't know what to tell you.

A huge portion of "the left" never hears anything about claims of transphobia.. and even if they do, they don't all care that much when it's not something having to do with policy or laws... that's been Dave's only real controversy, and it's barely affected his career.

Era has a very high percentage of trans/non-binary/whatever posters... they represent a very trans-centric portion of the left and what should/shouldn't be "cancelled."

And TBH the vast majority of era probably laughs at Dave Chappelle standup.. they just wouldn't admit it on era.. although plenty do, just check any thread about him before the trans activists show up.

i dont think that era represents all of the left. but if you look at the reviews of his netflix special, he got a 0% rating on rotten tomatoes. that means not a single critic gave it a positive review. the audience score on the other hand was in the 90s iirc. and the media usually leans left.

i do agree with you about era being very trans heavy for whatever reason. ive encountered maybe one trans person in my life but over at era it seems like 90% of the people there are trans.

Yes most of the media criticized Sticks and Stones. His next special which lacked jokes about trans people got 90%... and he's now hosting SNL..

That's how normal people on "the left" operate. They don't all think anyone who does something they criticize should be banned from earth.

I dont regularly watch SNL bits, but I will check out anything Chapelle.

But seems like all he can talk about anymore is racism. It's tiresome. So I didn't last long.

I feel like from day one he’s always joked about race relations, racism, mannerisms of white and black people, and so on.

I recently did a rewatch of Chappelles Show and there’s really nothing he’s saying now that he didn’t say back then. He’s a little less horny now and that’s about it.

OMG he made fun of trannies one time! He's a such a free thinker! No matter what side you're on, he's someone we should all listen to!

See what I'm saying? He's built up as this independent guy we all need to listen to, and yet he goes out to all the mainstream networks after all the big political events and basically gives you "Black Lives Matter: The 'Comedy' Special".

And below is the Kanye thing I mentioned. As soon as Kanye went to the Whitehouse and put on the MAGA hat, we then immediately see Chappelle go on CNN with fucking Van Jones and Democrat politician Ben Jealous.
  • Chappelle starts by saying he respects Kanye, but then says " he shouldn't have said all that shit" and also talked about how Trump is dangerous.
  • Then they talk about the Kavannaugh hearings, where all Chappelle says is that Christine Blasey Ford couldn't have gone to the police when it happened because she would have been accusing a white guy.
  • Then the show ends with Chappelle being asked about the "give Trump a chance" statement, saying he doesn't like Trump and that he "shouldn't have said that".

I loved the Chappelle Show, his movies, and his earlier stand-ups, just like you guys. That's why I'm so disappointed in what he's become.

Does the left still hate him for "basically murdering transpeople" with his sketches?

No. 90% of what comes out of the guys mouth these days is Black Lives Matter. He's a tool they can use to try and influence black people to stay on the left, which is the most important thing for Democrats. The CNN video I posted above is a clear example of that.

In the early days his obsession with race was subversive and fresh. Now it’s an institutional focus he just sounds like a corporate talking head.
Him and CK are probably my two favorite comedians right now, but it's kinda hard to argue with what you're saying. Though I probably don't see it so much that as much as just a comfortable instrument he uses for sets now that he feels confident will get him laughs. But eh, happens to the best of 'em. George Carlin comes immediately to mind.

Yeah I don’t hold it against them, lord knows I’m in my own groove.

Sometimes I wonder where Hicks would be if he were still alive and it kind of makes me sad. I doubt it would be anywhere original.

In entertainment I can’t think of anybody bar the Beatles and Radiohead who have managed to consistently reinvent themselves.

I can’t listen to him after that George Floyd special. “These streets is talking.” What an idiot. The streets are like 4chan, full of contradictory nonsense, propaganda and psy-ops.

Oh lmao. My bad (although I wouldn't be surprised if they still do that in a lot of places over there).

But my next question is: why the fuck is this thread necro-bumped then?
Because he’s hosting next week. The first new post on the thread is a Twitter post announcing it. I’m guessing they searched his name and decided to post it as a follow up.

Well I think that person is a poopoo head for baiting me into this thread then.

My time is valuable!

Seeing the reactions on other places is... odd, let's say. It's like I watched a different monologue entirely. I understand people have their own perceptions of Dave based on his past comments, but there was nothing at all in that monologue that was controversial. Then again, as HoodWinked said above, if it pisses off the fringe idiots on both sides, it's probably nothing but the truth.

monologue had some funny bits, but not sure SNL is right avenue to make touchy jokes about jews/trans/etc; just make jokes about kyrie and kanye, no need to talk about how the jews actually run everything lol

barbershop sketch was weird as fuck

regardless chapelle is the only way you'll get me to watch SNL
