Dave Perry: The PS3 is ultimately more powerful, if ...

Well, he isn't lying if I might ask, and look at Snowblind Studios work on both Champions games.

I'm amazed Snowblind was able to fit alot of resource-consuming effects into the PS2's 32mb of memory while mainting high frame rates(depite the slowdowns and freezing at times). We can't forget to mention that character models, armor and weapons are bump-mapped -- all at high-res.

Now tell me how many PS2 games do you find doing all that at one time?

People seem undecided on which of PS3 and Xbox 360 are more powerful. What do you think? Will they be very different machines to design games for?

Dave Perry: The PS3 is ultimately more powerful if you are willing to wait for programmers to master it. It's a bit like Path of Neo... Here we are at the end of the PS2 hardware cycle and suddenly we are the first game with Normal Mapping and we also demonstrated 1,500 Agent Smiths on screen at once. Meaning there's always some more juice to get squeezed out. The Xbox 360 on the other hand is much more comfortable to develop on and I expect to see programmers pushing it harder earlier. So I expect (like in a horse race) to see Xbox take off out the gate, but after a while, the PS3 overtakes. The good news is that there's no loser here, both machines rock.

Of course it's ultimately more powerful than X360 - we all know that. Oh how I miss mid-80s when Dave Perry used to program all those gems for Micro-Gen. (Pyjamarama (CPC), Herbert's Dummy Run (Speccy), Three Weeks in Paradise (Speccy))

This thread is useless without this pic:

Perry, even though he has his head up his ass, has a point here. Power's nothing unless you can use it--as of now, Team Kojima has produced a tech demo that looks astounding. Meanwhile, Sega already outdid the realism with NBA 2K6...hell, Madden 2006 has equal grounds with it, on a technical level.

Theres a differnce in 2k6 the face is scanned so it is much easier to get more details out. Also there is more going on in the MGS4 universe were as in 2k6 your only in a arena

Like I said before, 2k6 has a much more realistic look. The fact that a basketball game character looks better than snake says alot about the talent at VC.

Though I think it's all pretains to that Team Kojima maybe have a realistic asset to their designs it's all very stylish, just take any previous MGS games and compare to the modeling in previous NBA games. If you want to examine throughly the old man snake is still as detailed if not more so than the 2K pic, just look at the hair detail and self-shadowing on Snake, the player has a more realistic shade to it's look.

FACT: My, er, friend - yeah, a friend - tells me that at a recent UK chain store's internal sales conference, a Matrix presentation showed this level. But it turns out that while there ARE lots of Smiths on screen, most run in a circle around you, leaving just seven or so AI-controlled Smiths for you to fight. Kill one and other runs out of the circle to join the fight in the middle. From what I saw - I mean, what MY FRIEND saw - it's a total joke.

Perry talks total rubbish. Did you see that nonsense about the Revolution controller where he referred to himself as one of the top ten developers in the world? 'S'Funny, I didn't know he worked for Capcom/Konami/BioWare/Bungie/Valve/Bizarre/SonicTeam/Quantic Dream/Nintendo/Eurocom (yeah, I think Eurocom are better than him).

Perhaps getting jumped by 1500 enemies at once might not be that much fun from a gameplay point of view.

I have no idea why $ony is even doing PS3 I mean PS2 can do the FF movie in real time. I mean they said so before PS2 come out. It also is so powerful poeple can use it to render CG movies. You could link to them together to do that $ony said that.

$ony said all that so it must be true. PS2 has way way more power lift so I say skip PS3 and just keep PS2. I think $ony was scared to show the full power of PS2 cause then they would never have to bring out a new system cause it's so fucking powerful.

I$ it really nece$$ary to $pell Sony everytime with the $?

That'$ more M$ $pecific anyway.

In motion those 2K6 characters' faces look lifeless. They take a high-res photo of a guy and paste it onto a scanned model, of course it's going to look realistic and like him. In motion however, it's another story. Their bodies also look chunky and disjointed.

Are you bitter about $omething?

That's more MS specific anyway.

Well if you just do it with all the game company's nobody can call you bias for it. I type M$ and $ony and N$.

It also makes me cool and my Internet penis even bigger.

Actually I was thinking more along the lines that it's probably going to get you banned.

Well duh, it's based off a real person. It's easier when you got model arenas and players to work off. MGS4 is more the work of Yoji Shinkawa's artwork and the team they assembled. Also, when 2k7 hits PS3, I don't expect anything lacking in the PS3 version. Bottom line is, the developers have some extremely powerful machines to work with. The visuals are going to seperated more so by developers, than by consoles this gen.

I would imagine they have a hell of alot more animations to deal with than snake does. Also their faces look anything but lifeless in the videos and screenshots.

Sorry son I know your trying but you can never be as cool or as good looking as TOPDAWG. However you can hang around me and just maybe people will think your just a bit cooler cause your around me.

You can be my little side kick if you want.

Why would you get banned for that? Anyway who cares if I get banned? TOPDAWG sure does not care about it. Seems to be to many fan-boys here anyway to have a nice debate about gaming.

I also hate the lay out of this forum. It's kind of shitty.

Indeed - animation is on a whole different level in the MGS4. Whoever started the MGS4 vs. NBA comparison is a joker - those games aren't even in the same genre.

Man, you're not from this planet, are you?

Its much eaiser to animate a game like MGS compared to a basketball game. Its also much eaiser to animate a realtime cutscene compared to a playable game.

Yes, yes it is easier to animate a realtime cutscene but it's also easier to animate a playable game with a longer production time.

You don't remember all that from before the PS2 came out? Yes hard as it may be to believe $ony did say all that dumb shit.

Can we stop with the old man pic? It's not like a lot of PS2 games look like that. In the words of the great Charmin Kaga, "If my memory serves my correct", there is only one PS2 game that looks that good, and Mr. old man is in that game. Face it, Sony lies.

Tech demos are only displayed to show what a system is capable of, it doesn't mean every game is going to get to that level.

Even though the 2k6 is going for a more realistic approach it does not make mgs4 look inferior. That low-res-texture-beard and those boxy-out-of-proportion-arms does not make that model look very hot.

I don't see talent in slapping scanned face textures on models for the sake of realism. Konami modeled the players in winning eleven by hand and I think they look much better and more natural than the ones in fifa.

Fixed. Show me something in-game, with GAME FUNCTIONS--and not a pre-scripted sequence with realtime models.

MGS4 is all fine and dandy, but PS3 still falls back on the laurels of being "more powerful" when even Visual Concepts can show "PS3 level graphics" on an Xbox 360.

Where is that Sony Claimed/Silent Hill Photo outline someone created (maybe it should be made into a sticky thread).

I think it needs to be shown, and than Mr Dog banned.
