Heart breaking news. We now live in a world without Bowie. His music brought so much joy to countless people around the world over decades.

Condolences to his family.

I've got to give a big shout out to BBC Radio 6 for their work today. So far they've played 27 Bowie songs since 7am, and he's featured in almost everything else they've played.

This still doesn't feel real. I was looking forward to new music as he'd just got back into it...and the new stuff was so good.

So sudden,I was just listening to Blackstar over the weekend...a legend just passed away,so sad,R.I.P...

Ziggy playyyyed...guitar.(always loved the way he sang that at the end)

I hope everyone gives Blackstar a listen. It's an amazing farewell album and the fact that he worked through the whole production knowing it would the end makes it mindblowing.

RIP

Just found out on Twitter and I didn't believe it until I saw more and more reputable agencies confirm it.

The legend is forever.

Just...fuck.
The Goblin King has gone away.
Fuck cancer.
I will say that somewhere out there the opening bassline to Under Pressure is starting up

There's a similar special show today in Radio Helsinki here in Finland. They played many of his classic songs like Space Oddity and Ashes to Ashes.

My girlfriend is devastated by the news, as she's been a fan of Bowie throughout her life.

Wow, this really came out of nowhere. The world has lost such a unique individual. He was such an inspiration, a musical chameleon, a true rock icon. His influences will be felt (and heard) forever.
Such a sad day : (

Yeah I'm in the office listening to this. Lauren and Keaveny did a great job. Radcliffe is gonna be emotional 'cause only last week he said Bowie was his idol.

Unexpected.

I was 11 when Aladdin Sane was released and I first heard of David Bowie... by the time I was 14 I had three of his albums that I played incessantly. In those days, when I could only afford to buy a handful of records a year, I'd pretty much commit everything to memory :) Though I never met the man, David Bowie was a huge part of my growth as a musician and person.

We just celebrated our shared birthday. :( My band played Diamond Dogs, Rebel Rebel and The Man Who Sold The World in the set list on Friday night.

Damn it.

No need for words, I'll keep this here.

A man with a song that never dies. RIP.

Also how I've spent the morning. A lovely tribute and the messages coming in have all been filled with joy and inspiration.

Now there truly is a Starman waiting in the sky.

RIP.

This has hit me far harder than I thought it would.

RIP, David.

It's a real shame Adam Buxton never got to meet him given what a massive fan he is. Here's his funny little documentary he did on Bowie for those that haven't heard it.

Admittedly I never was a huge fan of his music. My favourite thing of his is actually his portrayal of Nikola Tesla in The Prestige.

RIP you crazy genius.

Sad times yo. Heard this in the middle of the night as I listened to the radio falling asleep. Then I had nightmares. Sadly, the Goblin King did not make an appearance.

Another legend come and gone.

I dare say he was one of the very few artists who redefined himself every era.

He will live on through the amazing music he made, and through the hearts of many who loved him.

My personal favorites are him hosting The Hunger TV series, and playing agent Jeffries in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.

Here's a video clip of the latter:

And there would be no Velvet Goldmine without his influence, which is my all-time favorite rock film.

Had the evening to absorb the news and it still doesn't seem real. Listened to a few albums and in the context of what we have lost it hurts.
Can't bring myself to put on Blackstar again just yet, might take a few days for that.

This was so sudden, I was expecting this man to live forever. I was shocked by the news and wished it wasn't real. What a respected legendary musician.

This is awful. It's so much worse in his case because, unlike many other people who became famous around the time that he did, Bowie didn't just stay stuck in that time. He continued to change and to put out new music, he wasn't beholden to some "golden age" of his career - he had many of them. His death is so sad not just because of his legacy, but also because of what he would have potentially done in the future.
