Hm.. Is there a reason why we can't log onto a website through our PSPs and download demos yet?

SONY CONNECT (PSP-Service), launches in March. So soon, my friend.

Pre-Order Purchase, and Firmare 2.5 is required.

Really? My EB just hands me stuff... though i know them all pretty good in there... don't trust them a damn worth for getting info... but they throw me all the demo's i want...

I'll have to throw it in and try it out... Right now i'm enthralled with my Syphon Filter and Persuit Force demo's... and mixin' in some Exit and Lumines... (gotta forgive me, finally bought a PSP today... yay me! :D )

I played through the Daxter demo last week. It was fairly fun (and I LOVED Jak II), but it really made me realize that I fucking hate the PSP analog stick.

Play the Pursuit Force demo. It ROCKS!

Daxter was not as ... good ... as Jak II? Why?

No, I can't really compare them, other than the fact that Daxter takes place during the two years that
Jak is imprisoned
. It's hard to judge the demo. It gives you two levels to play; One being a full platforming level, and the other being a Matrix parody mini-game. The actual platforming level itself was decent. Combat was kind of annoying fighting with only a fly swatter and bug spray. The graphics are nice, but the level design seemed kind of bland.

I won't judge the game just based on the demo alone. I still want to five the full game a try, but just based on the demo, I just thought it was ok. Out of the three demos I got, I've played Pursuit Force like 50 times over, and only played Daxter through once.

This can only be taken as a sign that Daxter is an excellent videogame, and that this man's taste is simply backwards.

I just played the regular level, it was ok... Def a good platformer... it has some decent animation... nice combat stuff in there (especially when you squish the bugs all gooey when you just above them or that final blow with the electric flyswatter hehe)could bust things up like the glasses and bottles... turning your bugspray into a flamethrower was pretty funny... overall controls were nice (agreed about the nub thing, i don't care for it too too much, but it'll get ya by) and responsive... music and sfx were good... and you're right, it's prolly too early to judge the final game based off of a demo...

but, damn... that Pursuit Force is awesome... i can't stop playing it... that and Syphon Filter, it's great... can't wait for Dark Mirror too...

EXIT is definetly better than the stupid reviews you find at IGN and Gamespot... it's a really really neat game... it's neat and fun, in a different kind of way (and not a leprocy kinda different, but a good different)

and yep... not done by Naughty Dog... but, done "in collaberation with them"... or something it says in the demo... whatever....

Okay, I'm starting to hate my fucking self for not getting the Pursuit Force Demo !!
I mean I've been hearing so much mix shit about it, so I just assumed it wasn't much of an priority. Although now you fuckers post these cum-dripping impressions, and now I want this shit bad. Eh, I'll just pick it up tomorrow (and it better be fucking sex) :D !!

I also got the demo disc for myself. I'd tend to agree with Matix's impressions above. One thing that's abundantly evident once you try it for yourself on PSP is that the graphics are really impressive. The animation is fluid, and the levels are colorful and really seem to have depth. The game already looked good on the video clips on the Internet, but playing it in person will give you a whole new appreciation for the PSP's graphical prowess.

The intro movie on the disc is very entertaining. The character design and voice acting are right up there with the PS2 games in the series.

The level design (from a gameplay perspective) was a bit disappointing. As graphically rich as the environment is, most of the level is still straightforward, with almost no real decision-making involved other than whether you want to risk taking the occasional side path to get a few stray Precursor Orbs. Using the flames to ignite the bug spray is great fun, though. :D

There was also another "dream level" mini-game in there which is simple, but a fun diversion.

Matix, get the Pursuit Force demo if you can. I got one in the mail, and was mildly interested in the game before, but after playing the demo I'm convinced that I need to get the full version of the game. :)

From the sounds of it, that's probably the same demo they had at E3 a year ago. Who knows how much the game has progressed since then :P Notice the fur shading on Daxter during the realtime cut scenes, and on the intro screen!

I too thought the demo level (E3 demo level that I played) could have been more open, BUT look at this video:

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/video_player/popup.php?pid=927355&sid=6142499&tab=related

It doesn't get much more open than this. I'll be damned if this doesn't look about as good as any of the PS2 Jak games.

Yeah, that video looks pretty. The inside of the demo sleeve shows a big map of Haven City, so I'm assuming that the game is going to have free-roaming aspects like Jak II. Hopefully, the game is great, as I'd really like a Jak II sidestory. I just felt the demo was decent. I'm still holding up for the final game though.

Yes, I noticed that. It's a subtle, but very cool graphical effect!

Very true. For what it's worth, that video was reminiscent of a portion of Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (the first game). I'd go so far to say that someone giving it a quick cursory glance (without looking closely at the character) might even think this video segment was from Jak & Daxter--which is a testament to just how closely and consistently they've reproduced Jak's world on the PSP.

I just noticed GameSpot posted some new videos a few days ago. "Daxter Gameplay Movie 9" is actually the intro movie that's on the demo disc.

Why do they always pick the boring levels for demos :) It looks nice, but it's fairly closed in and simple in design.

But seriously, Daxter is jaw droppingly impressive. Especially when you see how close the animation is, in-game and realtime cut-scenes, as compared to the PS2 versions.
The fur shading was pretty unexpected and looks damn impressive.

I especially love how the game takes place during the same timeline as Jak II, and you witness certain events (cut-scenes and gameplay), but through Daxter's point of view.

The latest Gamespot preview sounds promising, mentioning a good amount of content (18 main levels, city hub area, 6 dream sequence levels, 10-15 hrs to complete). Hopefully some of those levels are better than the blandness of the one in the demo you guys are talking about.

Today I've also played the trial version of Daxter.
I - M - P - R - E - S - S -I - V -E

I've played the demo for hours: graphics are unbeliable (first year of PSP ... and we have those graphics?!?), the controls are great, no loading, musics-fx-voices are beatiful, etc etc

Everyone with a PSP: ¡¡¡¡¡¡BUY DAXTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends what EB you go to. The EB I work at enjoys tossing demos at people. We're not tight wads. They resupply us when we run out anyway.

How can I get one of these demos?

1. Go to Gamestop or EB
2. Ask if they have the demo
3. If yes, pre-order the game for $5
4. They hand you demo

I completely agree with you. I was also very impressed with the demo. Fantastic graphics and almost no loading times. The controls felt very responsive, and the platforming was fun. This game was nowhere on my radar before I played the demo, but now I might have to pick it up if the reviews turn out okay.

Question - Is v-sync disabled in the demo? because all of the videos ive seen from Gamespot/IGN display really bad tearing. I've also noticed it happening in the syphon filter game, just wondering if it could be the video capturing method they're using for PSP stuff. Besides that though it certainly looked pretty impressive.

Agreed on the impressiveness of the demo.

Speaking of which, while you're out and about trying to get the Daxter demo, don't hesitate to check out the Pursuit Force demo which also is an absolute blast to play.

On the PSP/demo front, apparently the next in store demo UMD that you'll find at kiosks will have multiple demos on it, music, and movie previews as well. Not sure if it'll have anything new, but it's definitely something to look out for.

When is this new DEMO disc coming out?

And thanks GAF for making more a poorer man in March. You fucking sold me on this one.

Oh and Gamestop will be getting $15 in preorder money tomorrow.

I didn't notice any tearing when I tried it.

It's about time. I'm surprised Sony released so many different demo discs in such a short period of time. I don't know how much memory is being used on each disc, but you'd think they'd put out a demo disc with multiple demos. It would save them money, and PSP owners who want to show off demos to their friends wouldn't have to carry so many different demo discs with them.

Unsure. I'd so over the next month. Note, it's a retail demo that's going to be put in PSP interactive kiosks. A PS2 rep told me she'd be getting around 60 of them and would have to go to each of the stores she's assigned to in order to swap out the current demo (which is the absolutely awful Con right now).

Did she give you a small hint in what games, music, and/or movies will be on the disc?

Not much, although my guess it will all be first party. I kind of got the impression you'd see Daxter, Pursuit Force, Syphon Filter, Ape Escape on the disc. Can you think of any other first party games that might be a good fit?

The idea behind having video/games/music on the disc comes from people not knowing what the device is capable of. Having it displayed in such a manner is a good way of saying "Hey, this is not just a gaming machine."
