Hmm, trying to get back into the whole comics thing again, so I'm wondering: how is the new Green Lantern?

It's great. Beautiful art by Carlos Pacheco and Ethan Van Sciver, and great superhero fun from Geoff Johns.

It's probably my favorite DCU title at the moment.

This is what I'm looking at as my tentative pull list:

Marvel
New Avengers
Ultimates 2

DC
All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder
Desolation Jones

Maybes:
Green Lantern
Batman: Journey into Knight
JUSTICE

Not even going to touch that House of M/Infinite Crisis stuff with a 10-ft pole.

Anything you comic guys would recommend?

House of M #1 was shit.

Infinite Crisis, I'll have to level with you.. I'm loving it. OMAC and Villains United have kicked ass, Rann-Thangar War has kicked ass if you love the old sci-fi superhero stuff. The only thing I haven't been loving is Day of Vengence, but I never got into the magac stuff... also, some of the setup they've been doing over the past 2 years has been cool, and a lot of the crossover stuff (Birds of Prey, Verheiden's Superman, Rucka's Adventures of Supes, Red Hood, Green Lantern, most of the Titans and Outsider's stuff, etc) has been really fun to read also. Hell, I even loved Identity Crisis except for the last worthless damn issue. Otherwise the rest of the series was damn fine IMHO. So long story short, while I'm not very excited on House of M, Infinite Crisis has my hopes pretty high, and that is entirely on the limited series that are running and the prologue stuff they have been building the last couple of years.

anyway, Green Lantern is good, Batman is good right now (non prefix/suffix main title). I would consider letting go of New Avengers in exchange for Young Avengers which is actually really fun. Ultimate FF could be cool with Millar on it and about to cross over to the 616 universe (main Marvel U). might be cool, might suck. If it's cool, expect the books to sky rocket in price and become insanely scarce.

Eh, I kinda figured House of M would be shit, but with Infinite Crisis, there's just too much shit going on in too many books at one time, and I can't be bothered to search for all the back issues of what I've missed (especially since I've been hearing about how OMAC Project is scarce as hell and all that jazz).

actually infinite crisis (more appropriately the countdown issue and the four mini-series so far) are really self contained. It's kind of like Secret Wars. There are cool little references to the saga in the tie-in books, but any of the four series can be read independently of each other or any related crossover books. In that respect iot is also kind of like Fall of the Mutants. Nothing that happened in one series had much of an effect on what was going on in the other ones.

I would give it a try. It basically breaks down into:
Day of Vengence = magic
OMAC = high tech espionage
Villains United = classic superhero
Rann-Thangar War = classic sci-fi

pick the series that sound most appealing to you and don't worry about the rest.

you dont have to read teh "back" issues. it's just set-up and damn good storytelling. fun too.

Hmm...OMAC Project sounds the most appealing (I'm a sucker for espionage type books). I'll try that out.

edit: I was going to do Mail-Order with www.dcbservice.com, but I think I'm gonna use www.bobscomics.com. They actually have a selection of current and back issues as well as advance issues. Plus, free shipping on orders $20 or over! Here's what I'm ordering:

All Star Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder #1
Green Lantern #1-3
Ultimates 2 #7
New Avengers #7-10

For ~$22 and free shipping! Yay.

I'll end up getting the New Avengers Vol 1 TP, Ultimates 2 Vol 1 TP, and the Astonishing X-Men Vol 2 TP from www.dcbservice.com (50% off the Ultimates 2 TP, and 35% off on Astonishing X-Men; discount on New Avengers remains to be seen, but it'll be at least 35% off).

Well said, borghe.

None of the Infinite Crisis mini-series' are really essential reads, but are fun lead-ins to Infinite Crisis if you have the extra cash. Personally, I'd much rather read titles from the core DCU, so I'm only picking up The OMAC Project at the moment. I also gave Villains United a shot, but found the first issue grossly overrated.

As for House of M, it's garbage so far. Absolutely nothing happened in the first issue - pretty typical of Marvel's books these days. Bendis says the end of issue three will probably crash the Internet. With the crap Marvel's been pulling, it'll probably be Magneto bumping uglies with Mary Jane, or something to that nature. I'd skip House of M and any books that tie into it.

As for books to add to your pull list, Bowser, I'd consider Astonishing X-Men (Season Two will begin a few months after #12 finishes), Batman, Flash, Seven Soldiers (All of the books! They're a great self-contained romp even if you decide to only pick up one of the books), and the upcoming Defenders by Keith Giffen. But honestly, there's so much good stuff coming out right now, especially from DC, that it's hard to pin down a list. I'd just recommend heading to the shop and seeing what you like.

I'm loving Seven Soldiers - Zatanna in particular. The main character downs a couple of bottles of wine, gets her kit off and tries to magic up the perfect man. What's not to like?

As for Astonishing X-Men, I'm picking up the first two trades and I'll collect Season Two singles. Seven Soldiers looks interesting, but I don't think I'll keep up with each of them (might look through two or three of 'em though). What issue did the current arc of Batman begin with?

Last arc begins with #639, I believe. But you don't really need to worry about picking up the previous issues; the book has been pretty new reader friendly so far. All you need to know is,
Jason Todd is back as the Red Hood, and is trying to topple Gotham criminal underworld. Batman knows Jason is back, and is currently investigating possible reasons/causes for his return
. The story has been moving a bit slow, but is still pretty good.

Nomo what issue did they meet in? I'd like to reread it because I just don't remember it well, but I'm too lazy to look back through the books to find it..

WTF? Ras has 2 daughters now Talia and Nyssa? When the hell did that happen?

Batman #635. However, Red Hood wasn't revealed to be
Jason Todd
until #638.

A few more highlights from the month:

Superman/Batman #23 (Love that McGuinness!)

SupermanBatmanCv23.jpg

Flash #226 (Sad about Geoff Johns leaving, but here's hoping a superstar creative team joins up in the coming months)

FlashCv226.jpg

The OMAC Project #6 (Landronn is quickly becoming one of the better cover artists)

OmacProjectCv6.jpg

Vigilante #1 (Ah.. Bruce Jones. Hated his Hulk, but this book sounds cool. Here's hoping his Hulk run was only crappy because of editorial mandates from Marvel.)

Very good observation; if it is true, he'll probably be revived in Infinite Crisis. ;)

Nah, it's probably
Indigo that dies, she's a Brainiac after all. Nightwing's doing his own thing in the solo series, working undercover as... a criminal? And just because Superboy's fighting Supergirl doesn't mean he's evil again; she's gonna throw down with Power Girl too, in the first ish of her new series.

Maybe Supergirl just likes to fight. :p

Is that Vigilante the same character as the Vigilante that was on JLU, with a new look?
I don't really follow JLU, but is the Vigilante you're referring to a cowboy? If so, the answer to your question is no.

If he's not a cowboy, the answer to your question is probably.

What's the word going around on the new Batman maxi-series? Is the team well known for any other works?
You mean Journey into Knight?

Well, Helfer hasn't written for DC in years, and Tan Eng Huat's art is absolutely atrocious. He did a few issues of JLA last year which were ugly as hell.

In other words, avoid this maxi-series!

Way to f*ckin destroy Talia as a character... wait a damn minute... isn't Talia part of Villians United with Nyssa nowhere in sight... I'm sorry...
Killing Tallia and resurrecting her until she broke her?
dumb... I almost picked up the Maidens series.. I'm glad I didn't I would have been pissed.
Maybe Nyssa prefers not to reveal her existence to the villain community? Or maybe the writers just don't like Nyssa? ...In any case, I think Talia and Nyssa are running the League of Assassins as partners; together they've taken their father's place, as was his plan all along.

Quick questions, has Green Lantern #2 been released yet? A website that I'm ordering from says the release date was June 15th, but I don't see it out anywhere else. Is it delayed?
