A trio of stars of Discovery's hit reality series "Deadliest Catch" have left the show.

Capts. Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand -- who were sued earlier this month by Discovery for allegedly not performing work on a planned spinoff special -- as well as Capt. Sig Hansen, said in a statement Tuesday that they were "unable" to continue on the series due to the litigation.

"We have been through a lot over the past year and unfortunately given the current situation with Discovery we are unable to continue participating in 'Deadliest Catch,'" the three crab fishermen said in a joint written statement. "It has been a fantastic ride, and we wish the best to all of the amazing and supportive 'Catch' fans we have met over the years."

A statement from Discovery was not forthcoming.

The network sued the Hillstrands for $3 million claiming they failed to show up to finish work on "Hillstranded," a planned "Catch" spinoff. The Hillstrands' lawyer Jeff Cohen then called the suit an attempt to "extort" his clients and said the lawsuit could force them to sell their boats and fire their crews. Hansen, also repped by Cohen, later weighed in, backing the Hillstrands, slamming Discovery and saying, "I want people to know the captains stand together, and me and my brothers support them 100 percent."

Hansen, captain of the Northwestern, has been a fixture on "Catch" since its first season premiered in 2005. The Hillstrands, captains of the Time Bandit, joined in Season 2. Filming on the seventh season of the Emmy-nominated series is scheduled to begin as crab season starts in October. But barring any reconciliation, it now appears the show will be down three captains (in addition to Capt. Phil Harris, who died earlier this year).

This this mean more logging shows?
I'm hoping for a show about Bear Grylls and Survivorman transporting lumber across the north Atlantic, while catching swordfish and crabs for sustenance.

All narrated by Mike Rowe, of course.

Wow next season will suck without them and Phil around :(

I loved how the Hillstrands were totally Geico'ed out in the last season. I see a commercial with them, then see them drinking Geico coffee mugs, etc :lol

That reminds me I need to watch the latest, and apparently last season :/

It was a great and heartbreaking season. Sad to see this show pretty much has gone down in flames. Can't really have a compelling show with all the main heavy personalities gone.

They could find new captains to follow. But to me, I thought the show had run it's course already. Not much more they could do that they haven't done already.

The entire lawsuit seems like the captains signed a contract, then in the middle of filming decided they wanted more money. The lawyer's statement only taked about the money Discovery has made off them and didn't deny ignoring the contract.

I have been watching Survivorman's new show. It is pretty good.

No Sig, no show

Yep. Same here.

I didn't care about the Hillstrands much. Seems like in the last season they were a bit douchier than usual, especially with how they handled choosing their next captain. I'm not surprised at all to hear they've ignored their contracts, as they seem rather rebellious in nature.

Too bad Sig has to back them up, his crew was a pleasure to watch.

wow that sucks big time.

More initial thoughts, 3 million and they would have to fire their crew and sell their boat? Aren't these guys pretty loaded at this point? Even after they pay their crews and boat maintenance and what not they make a pretty good profit most of the time.
That said they should have just honored their contract.

Doesn't matter how in the right Discovery is on this they are going to take a beating if the Hillstrands and Sig aren't in this years Deadliest catch.

Ugh, one of my favorite TV shows and they do this? How could they jeopardize Deadliest Catch for $3 million and a spin off show? It would have never been as popular as Deadliest Catch. They're so shortsighted on pissing off their stars that they're going to lose both shows now.

Idiots.

That sounds amazing, but that fraud from Survivorman wouldn't be able to keep up with Bear, and you know it.

I remember that one GFW podcast (I believe it was the Brodeo) where Shawn Elliott said that most of those Alaskan crab fishers spend all the money they earn on meth 'n shit to keep them going...... so they can earn more money for meth :lol

Oh wtf. I always loved this Hillstrands. They easily had the best attitudes of any boat on the show.

No Stig
No Hillstrands
No Phil

Fuck that. Thank god Storm Chasers starts soon.

Goddamn, could easily be the show's demise. I mean, what the hell, are people going to watch Deadliest Catch for Keith? Sig and the Hillstrands were the ones to watch, what with Phil gone (RIP).

Good to know Discovery doesn't know its ass from its elbow. Plus, I gotta question the intelligence behind a spinoff. I mean, what exactly are you going to do a spin-off on?

I think it was supposed to be a a one time special. The 'spin-off' owing to the fact that it was directly about the Hillstrand brothers and not Deadliest Catch. My guess is that the rational was to see if a potential 'spin-off' might be popular, then attempt to commission an actual show.

Gotta milk that cow baby.

This fucking pisses me off.

My dad is a fisherman down here in Louisiana. These people work their ASSES off. Seriously, imagine a week or two in stormy, cold ass weather with freezing rain and waves hitting you until you're numb. Imagine going through shrimp/oysters until the stickers from them fuck up your hands so bad that you have calluses growing everywhere.

And, and one or two hours of sleep a day.

And they want to take their boat and $3 million dollars?

FUCK YOU DISCOVERY! THAT'S BULLSHIT. THOSE GUYS MOST LIKELY WORKED HARDER THAN EVERY SINGLE LAWYER YOU'VE EVER HIRED COMBINED.

Fuck that shit.

1) They're not going to take their boat. They are claiming they might have to sell it to cover legal costs if they lose.
2) Contracts are legally binding. That is why this is going into litigation.
3) I would love to see a repomen/Deadliest Catch crossover.

i missed this thread the 1st time round... but as i am watching the latest season now, i'm thinking whether there will be another after all the turmoil of many of the key people on the show. i'm not liking the sound of this new show though...
