Deadpool actually got my theater to clean up after ourselves. It was amazing.
I don't ever buy concessions in theaters but I thought this was common fucking sense. Must be the same people who don't throw their garbage away at dine in fast food places.

Yeah I always carry my trash out of the theater but I've always been that way.

As someone who used to work in a cinema, people can be fucking disgusting with leaving their food and drinks behind. Some even just leave their popcorn and/or drinks on the floor if they spill them.

impressive as always man, out of curiousity what would Deadpool's total be if it totally imploded? Though it looks solid enough what if it happens to be totally front loaded?

What would its domestic total be if had Cloverfield's legs?

$270M. Watchmen was actually slight more frontloaded than Cloverfield

I think it's bloody hilarious how Tom Rothman, the man who literally had Deadpool's mouth sewn shut (He referred to the Origins version of the character as A+++ even!), and refused to make the movie while he was at Fox, is now the chairman of Sony Pictures.

I want a comment from him. He personally blocked the film, and now the studio made it, they made it R-Rated and it's blowing the box office the fuck up. In any case, Kevin Smith is damn right about one thing. Hollywood IS about failing upwards.
So this is why Sony pictures is doing so badly. Wonder how he got the job when his previous performance was such shit

Yowers, impressive stuff to be sure. I seriously doubt this will lead to anymore R rated action films never mind superhero films given that studios will probably learn nothing from this. I imagine they all notch this up to an 'anomaly' and nothing more.

We might see a modest increase in R-rated action (up from essentially zero, these days). I'm sure part of Deadpool's success is the novelty of its R-ness, so too many of them will wear it out. But I also think studios will recognize there's a box office hole here to be filled.

I don't think there will be very few, if any, other R-rated superhero movies, though. I imagine Marvel does not want to confuse audiences too much about the general appropriateness of the genre.

Because Sony. Sony is a complete fucking trainwreck right now in every single way with the possible exception of the PS brand.

No forced 3D tax either. Movie was great. Looks like this year is going to be huge.

No 3d is great i am getting tired of 3d..makes the prices of the tickets to damn high and i enjoyed it just like any movie does in just normal 2d.

Going to see it again next week my favorite movie this year and going to buy the blu ray hopefully they pack it with a lot of stuff!

He has a reputation for making the films on his slate cheap, fast and low brow enough for everyone to enjoy.

If you don't care about the quality of the films you make and you're obsessed with margins and micro managing, SPE is, then Rothman is your man.

Mark my words, this 'shared' Spider-Man deal between Sony and Marvel is going to implode at some point. Maybe not next year or the year after that but it will.

Interesting. It's going to be fascinating seeing all the international numbers on this one roll in.

I dont ever buy junk food when I go to the theatre, but I always thought it was the workers job to pick up the trash.

Not a single cinema in my city (Cologne) is showing this in its original version. I despise most of the German version of movies and this one especially relies on in-jokes and subtle references, that would not survive the translation.
Glad I saw TFA in English at least.

Their job is to make the theater ready for the next showing. Leaving your trash makes their job harder. That's fine, if you want to cause unnecessary work for someone else.

I still see it in the theaters in here in the netherlands i always take my junk away but who leave it behind are the worst.

It is their job: that doesn't mean that people should go out of their way to create messes for them to pick up or just leave all the shit they bought in the theater as if it's one big garbage can.

Also before this opened I was asking what would happen is Deadpool outgrossed X-Men Apocalypse in the US because I had heard before Xmas that perhaps Fox weren't that confident in Singer's latest X adventure.

This incredible performance could totally blow apart Fox's plans for their X universe which already seems more interesting to me than what they planned.
I don't think FOX really has extensive plans, but regardless, I don't think this is going to drastically alter the X-Men films. Deadpool will be his own franchise, and I expect this will push X-Force forward, but unless Apocalypse is a failure (and it doesn't look to be) they'll probably keep ahead with a direction that's working.

If anything, Deadpool's success may push Fox to be more faithful to the source material for their future X-Men films.

Total insanity. Between this and Force Awakens my abysmal record of predicting box office performance continues at pace.

In your defense, TFA and Deadpool basically fooled everyone in the world

I don't think even the saltiest Deadpool fan would've predicted an opening like this

Credit to Fox's marketing team who really managed to connect with the target audience and expand beyond it in a big way.

They fucking NAILED it. From day one. From Deadpool beating Mario Lopez's ass and announcing it was Rated R to the trailers, to the fucked up billboards.

It's a shame that Deadpool won't make another appearance on Ultimate Spider-Man thanks to Marvel being insanely petty.

I think they have calmed down a lot recently. I mean, they are doing an Apocalypse event to tie in to the movie.

They seem to play well with fox when it comes to X-men characters actually, I think there were a lot of hurt feelings over fantastic four though. That was vindictive as shit.

I recall Marvel Animation saying at NYCC 2015 that they had no plans for any future Deadpool appearances in their shows (I might be wrong, it could have been SDCC 2015). Plus, as stated earlier, the X-Men/F4 video game ban is still ongoing.

You can also thank Ryan for it he worked his ass off with the marketing team also and they kept firing e-mails and texts to each other to think of something next and it pays off i heard in a interview with ryan that everyone at the marketing team at fox wanted to go do deadpool like it was also a dream to them.

What's on the slate for Xmen movies after apocalypse? The next Wolverine and Gambit? (I think Gambit is still scheduled for this year which is hilarious since there's been no news about the film).

Oh and a Deadpool sequel.

Things can change I guess. A year ago people said Hasbro Couldn't make xmen toys and they just showed off 5 new Marvel Legend xmen characters at toyfair.

Studios might chalk it up to the comedy aspect as r-rated comedies can do well, and Kingsman was also billed as an action-comedy.

Rothman just got the job last year after the hack. Amy Pascal is the one to blame for Sony's current situation, if you want to blame someone.

Yeah, that's right. New Mutants is vaguely in development, but other than a director being attached there's no real news on it. I imagine there'll be an announcement about what's next for the X-Men proper around the time Apocalypse comes out (unless, again, it's an unexpected failure and prompts a rethink). Bryan Singer has a 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea adaptation in the works that will start shortly, so either they're going to wait for Singer or bring in another director (with Singer probably still involved as a producer, etc.).

Instead of going all the way to the restrooms, you can take a piss on the floors and they will clean it up too.

Doesn't mean someone should be an irresponsible person

I guess there's hope for the video game & cartoon bans being lifted, though the X-Men toys could just be Hasbro putting their foot down. The mutants are still being removed from other stuff.

I bet Charming Potato and Fox are counting their lucky stars Gambit got delayed, it can allow them to crowbar a cameo or even fleshed out appearance for Deadpool in Gambit.

Wolverine 3
Gambit
"Cable and Deadpool"
X-Force
New Mutants

are all planned or in development in some way.

Most impressive opening weekend of all time? I'd say so; I don't there's any film that effectively doubled the average prediction by BO pundits on this level before. This kind of shit is why I love following the box office.

It's also why I love to follow Box Office 'Analysts', a majority of whom will be coming up with all kinds of BS this week saying 'Well obviously in context we knew it was always going to be hit because of X, Y and Z'!
