Deaf or Blind ?

West Texas CEO

GAF's Nicest Lunch Thief and Nosiest Dildo Archeologist
Almost every afternoon when I get home, I wonder if I could maintain the life I currently live without sight or hearing. Speaking just for myself, I think I'd rather be deaf than blind, I could still get around and function better without being able to hear (though I would sorely miss the joys of music), and, silly as this sounds, I'd still be able to watch TV and movies at home thanks to subtitles. But being blind? I don't know if I'd be able to get by without being able to see. Of course, the blind do still enjoy their own quality of life, but I don't think I could manage.

While I hope no one here ever faces such a terrible choice, but just for the sake of an intellectual exercise, would you rather be blind, or deaf?

Blind is the worst. They both would suck, but blind would leave you more impaired. Just not being able to visually observe the world around me, would drive me nuts.

You can't listen to tits. Except of course the huge ones that flap and flop and bump and bang at each other. Which makes this a harder issue for me, literally and figuratively.

I'd rather be deaf.
I have enough balance issues with full sight, just for starters. Though I know deafness would effect that too.

Vision is much more important than hearing. We receive majority of information about world through eyes. Deaf person can travel, read books, view movies and shows with subtitles, do shopping, cook, play videogames. Blind person has much more problems with this.

deaf would bum me somewhat since music is such a huge part of my life

but i'd adapt, the whole culture kinda interests me in some ways (tho i hear it's rather poisonous at the institutional level)

Have a buddy of mine. He is deaf yet has a wonderful family. Wife and 2 girls. Has a good job. He can read lips can write can communicate .

I dont think you could enjoy life without seeing your kids and their expressions. Seeing them growing up. Seeing your wife. Sad or happy.

Being blind is just awful when you know what ypu are missing out on

Both are bad, but blind is way worse.
Having said that sight and hearing i'd say are the most important, after that is touch, then taste and smell are less important than being physically impaired

I would legit kill myself if I was 100% blind. Don't have the strength to do it. Deaf is horrific & a hard life but you can still live a fulfilling existence.

I’d rather be deaf. I’m already like half-way there apparently and I already watch movies/play games with subs.

I mean, aside from games being my primary hobby. Drawing is my life, if I went blind that would be devastating for me.

You'd have to find the razor first.

But I have the same answer as everyone else I think. I can't watch movies or play games or do my job without sight. I can with out hearing, even if it is a bit impeded (though maybe enhanced for job so I don't have to listen to other people distracting me, esp my kids in covid telework).
