If your game is on Gamepass and every subscriber hasn't played it then it's a failure.

It was also free on Epic games store. It's launch numbers weren't that great, but people really came around on DS. Anybody expecting DS2 to sell more than a few million copies in its first year is probably wrong to think so

Yeah so half these players are freebies from EGS, PC Pass and PS Extra. Now I know Sony gain revenue from those 3 aspects but let's be honest and actual sale is far more valuable and preferable.

I don't think there's anything wrong with celebrating a 'we had a lot of players' milestone. It's not very useful as an indicator of commercial success, but I don't think it always has to be meant that way.

I know it's a joke post, but we know it sold 4.4M on PS4 and 335k on PS5 as of Feb 2022.

As for PC, VG Insights has the vanilla version at 2.4M and the director's cut at 1.1M.

20m sounds nice, but the game was free and on services. I also bet many uninstalled it after a couple of minutes. Not everybody was so stupid like me and tortured themselves with a couple of hours.

I agree. They could completely remove all the nonsense story / cutscenes and replace it with some minimalistic lore (like in souls games) and the game would be even better and probably would have made more profit because we know those actors are expensive. But even better, encourage people to search for clues about the world and its story. It would be a win/win IMO.

I think a lot of us, myself included, are replaying it just now in anticipation for the sequel. Amazing game. 5 achievements away from 100%, just gotta finish up the Legends of Legends of Legends one and the memory chips one. Nearly there!

Say what you want, it is still the well known (at this point) IP by arguably the most popular gaming industry superstar.
