decently priced memory sticks?

ah, so the joy that is psp arrived in the mail today, and my mom was kind enough to pick up 1GB memory stick to go along with it for my birthday, but it's a memory stick pro - without the duo. d'oh!

i can't seem to find any places online with 1GB memory stick pro duos in stock, sony, sandisk or otherwise. well, except for one place -- http://www.memorysuppliers.com/sa1gbmestpro.html -- but it's a little overpriced. i could make due, but i'd like to go a little cheaper, if possible.

any ideas?

'cos i figure if i'm going to buy one, i might as well go nuts now and not have to ever worry about space.

when emulators pop up on psp, that gig will fill fast.

I got mine from buy.com. I figure once the PSP comes out in NA, those 1gb duo's will be even harder to find. You can try ebuyer.com, they occassionally get some in stock but your best bet is to order now or put in for a notificiation email at buy.com.

I got a 256Mb one for $60CDN. It's more than enough for the time being (two albums, family photo's, 2 volumes of Bersek, and a Dave Chappelle ep.). I'll wait for 1gig's to get down to around $100 before I pick one up.

Eh, don't go for anything less than a gig. I had 512 for a few days and it's just too small. It's far too time consuming to encode stuff to just put one or two things on there. I've got 3 hours of TV, some pictures, my game files, a couple of MP3's and I have 220 megs left, which is enough for about two episodes of Family Guy. I got mine for $125 or so from Buy.com

I bought a 512 Duo Pro that I can also use in my Clie UX50, so I killed two birds with one stone. With a 512 I can have a couple MP3 albums, several TV shows, music videos, etc. 3GP does a great job converting, I usually only give sitcoms 15FPS however.

I think the only way a 1GB is worthwhile is if you can't stand having to transfer new stuff to the stick every couple of days, or if you will be without access to a PC for a while to do some swapping.

Prices will come down, and the 512 hit my sweet spot - anything more was too rich to handle with all the other purchases I've made recently :)

seriously, when it comes to storage space, more is always better...

though i do agree that the 'sweet spot' in pricing is sometimes a key to getting more space...

like buying smaller sized media that comes out cheaper per MB...

There's a place here that has 512mb Sandisk Duo Pro's for $59.95. (When I was in Users Side I saw the exact same stick I guess imported from Japan for $159. heh)

Asked if they'll get in the 1gb sticks, but they said Memory Sticks don't sell so they probably won't. (Maybe if I went in and told them of the potential with the PSP...)

Not sure how to handle it as they might just be dumping their current inventory and not plan to stock more...it'd be nice though, at their prices...

why do you need a gig, anyway? Why not a 512?

Stick with the 1GB, you said you have a 32 so that should tide you over for actual games. If your mom was nice enough to spring for a gig then by all means don't downgrade especially since you didn't foot the bill for it heh.
