I made an order and checkout'd, and I want to take off one thing but I can't do anything to my order. Can't add to it, can't remove, can't cancel it. What am I missing here?

No, you'll need to call or e-mail them. I'd do it soon, too, as they're being very quick with shipments at the moment. There's a pretty good chance your stuff will be sent out in the morning.

Can anyone nudge me in one direction or the other on the complete Prisoner box set? I've never seen the it before, and the price seems a little bloated for a 17-episode run (even with the discount), but it's influences are obvious in a lot of other genre shows that I enjoy. Do I pull the trigger here or what?

Point of reference: I'm already dropping at least $200 on other things...

How many times do they do this sale a year? I remember the last one was in June/July, or something.
The last sale made for such a huge thread, I'd have thought this one would be even bigger, considering the fast approaching holidays.

I make large purchase:

By the time I finished shopping, though, half my choices were out of stock :( How long does it typically take them to re-stock? Does anybody have experience in this matter?

Edit:
Was gonna give Barry Lyndon some Kubrick-company by finally purchasing Clockwork and 2001, but decided to hold off 'til their upcoming new editions.

Also, I love Oldboy and bought the rest of the Vengeance trilogy based solely on GAF opinion (and the Oldboy love). If GAF has disappointed me in the provocation of this blind purchase, you will understand when I exercise upon you my newfound skills in all things vengeance.

HOMICIDE-COMPLETE SERIES $ 143.97 1 $ 143.97
THE CHAIRMAN $ 11.71 1 $ 11.71
THE KILLERS: CRITERION COLL $ 23.99 1 $ 23.99
THE PAUL NEWMAN COLLECTION $ 33.34 1 $ 33.34

Your Total: $213.01

I've got the first disc of the Prisoner coming from Netflix (along with one of the Pinky films) so I should be able to watch them before the sale ends. Just going on some additional information I've read, the Prisoner doesn't sound like something I'll want to buy, but who knows.

My income's recently been supplemented nicely by a few side jobs for my father's business, so I'm considering a second, smaller order, but I'm going to wait on it for now.

I personally find Mr. Vengeance to be the best of the three; there's something about it's quirks, humor, darkness, and yes, even the faults that add up to something I simply adore. Lady Vengeance, on the other hand, I found to be a confounding, uninteresting mess, wholly unworthy of the previous two films. My opinion is definitely in the minority, though.

It's definately the sort of thing you'd want to rent first, so it's for the best that you've got Netflix winging the hook-up your way. That said, The Prisoner is an astonishing show, packed to the gills with paranoid, psychological drama and surreal visual style. I think you'll be impressed, though that may not necessarily mean you need to own it. Hell, I've been a fan for years but only just now broke down and ordered the set for myself.

My shipment (sans the back-ordered Prisoner set) arrived a couple of days ago, just in time for my weekly Thursday movie night. Our selection: Girl Boss Guerilla from the Pinky Violence box set, a tale of a badass female biker gang that goes up against a Kyoto yakuza family. Highlights:

- Displaying an innate understanding of what the audience wants, breasts are bared three minutes into the film, right before our heroines beat the hell out of a bunch of hapless Easy Rider wannabes.

- The breasts in question have awesome yakuza-style tattoos on them.

- The only thing better than the awesome early 70s fashions the sukeban are sporting is the way said fashions rip during the catfights that occur every ten minutes or so during the first half. Naturally, this brings us back to the breasts, which are still terrific.

- This is a movie that is not afraid to go there, with scatalogical humor thrown in here and there. It's groan worthy, but played with such cheeseball enthusiasm it has a sort of sleazy charm to it. Well, perhaps a bit. Okay, it wasn't an active deal breaker, and with the right sort of crowd watching you all get to groan together.

- The romantic subplot isn't any great shakes, but it does provide for gratuitous sex scenes and a suitable finale.

- The movie has a Buddhist nun who joins the gang, sporting a shaved head and a mean sense of humor. There's also a hippie who plays a guitar that, suprisingly, sounds exactly like a piano. It's horrible, but in a delightfully period sort of way.

- The rest of the soundtrack is completely awesome. Jazz flute, anyone?

- The inevtiable bondage torture scene wasn't my thing, but, again, fit in with the exploitation vibe so I was willing to roll with it.

- And the finale is suitably vengeful. Grrl power, indeed.

In short, it's one helluva flick, lovingly restored and absolutely terrific looking, with hot women beating the hell out of people, riding classic bikes, and either sporting amazing clothes or falling out of them on a regular basis. The group I was with had a great time cheering on the flick and we're looking forward to checking out another selection from the set in the not too distant future. I dunno if the movie would be as much fun if you're just sitting at home watching it by yourself, but it's still top-notch exploitation fare.

I also popped in the bonus CD that the set came with, Reiko Ike Sings. If you wanted Japanese lounge music with extra moaning thrown in, man, this is the album for you. It's a hoot.

If you were on the fence about the Pinky Violence set and this review intrigued you, go ahead and drop the cash. If you're still not certain, consider Girl Boss Guerilla a worthy $10 purchae from the sale (going on through tomorrow) or a rental. If you've been enjoying Kinji Fukasaku's yakuza flick reissues, you'll probably get a huge kick out of this. Let me put it this way: Girl Boss Guerilla was originally released as a double-feature with the original Battles Without Honor and Humanity. 'Nuff said.

Their free standard shipping typically takes 5-10 days to arrive.

DDD extended the sale last weekend, so today is now the final day to get in on the discounts.

Also of interest, DVD Planet is currently running their own 20%-off sale through the 26th of this month. 20OFFSALE is their code and it can be used as many times as you'd like. Free shipping on orders over $25. This one in particular is great for Criterions, as it bumps their normal 30-35% discount to an unheard of 50% (or more) off! Substantially better prices than Deep Discount has.

Finally, if anyone has yet to sign up for Google Checkout (which you should), they're running a $10 off $10 (or higher) promotion for new users through the 26th.

If you're already a Checkout user, Buy.com is offering $20 off any $50 (or higher) purchase, taken automatically when you go through Google Checkout for payment. GREAT deals on video games using this one!

In regards to my previous inquiries:

I'm glad to have held off on ordering the Prisoner collection, because I really did not get into the first episode. Everything about it felt quite dated and... well, goofy. The story is still interesting to me, but I can't get past the awkward surface (and my tollerance for all things '60s is fairly low in the first place).

The Pinky Violence stuff, on the other hand, seems pretty cool. I enjoyed Terrifying Girls' High School: Lynch Law Classroooom! -- a title like that begs to be italicised and also yelled out in public places. :) They're not something I would feel compelled to own, though, but I'll definitely keep the others in my Netflix queue for the future.

My original order came from DDD a few days ago, all safely packaged and secure. The Homicide set? Jesus, it's nice.

Thank you for these infos!

BTW, just got the Monty Python and Oldboy boxes today... so awesome :)

Sweet, I became busy and forgot to make a DDD order, so I'll go with DVD Planet now.

I just used it to spend $500 on the Janus 50 Years/Films box set (oh sweet money, have I done wrong in parting with so much of you??) and Dr. Katz Season 2, so it should still be working.
