Then speculate as to the film or artistic collaboration that would result. For example:

Iain Banks
Beck
George Lucas

Clearly making for a dark, extremely fucked-up and bloody cool sci-fi yarn, with big spaceships, loveable aliens, and a neo-bluegrass soundtrack.

Or ...

Shakespeare
DJ Shadow
Clint Eastwood

Of course there won't be any new material coming from Shakespeare anytime soon, but one of the tragedies would probably fit the Davis / Eastwood combo quite nicely - let's say Lear. I'd like to witness the grand reconciliation scenes from this project (Gloucester / his son; Lear / Kent; Lear / Cordelia), but I'd also have faith in the premachinations being highly compelling.

Hmmm, okay!

C.S. Lewis
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
Martin Scorcese

It'd be a stark, gritty film about a bluegrass band in the city. The whole thing turns out to be an allegory for the story of the apostle Paul.

Okay, that didn't work as well as I thought

Tim Burton
Eminem (anything but Encore)
Kurt Vonnegut

An idiosyncratic, moral tale with overpowering yet brooding themes with completely unexpected outcomes, all using sci-fi.

Result: Redefining ego on a scale like you've never seen before.

Deep, mind blowing sci-fi of the non-nerd variety with, uhhhh, a weird & funny soundtrack.
