They still make them correct? I hope so, cause like when i hit it big thats one of the cars that will be in my collection. This is a sad day, even though the car was a flop in a lot of peoples eyes. Its still the mother fucking Delorean.

RIP

I've wanted to get the 1:18 scale model of the DeLorean from Back to the Future 2 for a while now. Would be my own shallow way of paying my respects.

DeLorean was an auto executive (formally of GM), and was not a designer. The guy who designed the DeLorean (Giugiaro) is still alive and well.

It would have been forgotten if it wasn't for the BttF movies. It really is an impractical and silly looking car though as illustrated in The Wedding Singer.

DeLoreans are awesome!

You really have to drive one to fully appreciate it. I took one for a test drive last year (no intention of buying it...I'm only 20) and it was so freaking cool. Just to sit inside it...it feels like you are in a space ship or something. They sit so low to the ground, too. It was just a really comfortable car and really fun to drive.

That would be the first thing I would buy if I won the lottery.

It is a shame he died. I was looking forward to seeing what his new car looked like. At one point, they were actually taking pre-orders for it, but I guess it was never meant to be.

The original DMC went kaput in the 80's, and a bunch of tiny companies sprang up to offer repairs and stuff in the following years, but in the late 90's (about '97 or so) a "new-but-not-affiliated-with-the-old-company" DMC appeared and is the place to go to get spare parts, maintenace/repair, restoration, etc. to any surviving cars.
