Denis Dyack Video Interview (Too Human)

Why would the game have poor sales? It looks awesome.

::Brain Explodes::

Do you know how many awesome games have sold like crap? Besides, few games by Dyack are awesome. He's reaching the level of false hype that is the Peter Molyneux.

Well I think Eternal Darkness is average, yes. I don't really think gamerankings helps prove your point.

I know, right. The game getting massive accolades across the board is completely meaningless. What a pile of crap game...

How many of you are just bitter Nintendo fans?

Why can't a person state their person opinion on a game without someone pulling the gamerankings card and/or bitter card? Are we only allowed to only dislike games with poor reviews? Personally I thought Eternal Darkness was an awesome game, but that doesn't mean it's not flawed and I can see those flaws affecting others way more if they dislike the unpolished feel and the overall chunky engine with poor combat.

Yeah well you said Eternal Darkness is awesome. It sold like shit! :P

I didn't care much for Eternal Darkness myself, the gameplay was very repetitive, the magic system more cumbersome than it should be, and the sanity system got old very quickly, the combat was clunky.

It scores big points for presentation, but the underlying gameplay is average at best, imo.

Yep, pretty much. It was nothing special.

Hopefully Too Human will be better, haven't they been working on this game since even before they started on Eternal Darkness? Should be enough time to think it through properly. Heh.

Not many people bought Eternal Darkness (myself included) so there really is nothing to be bitter about...

Anyway, Dyack's games have always put more emphazies on appearance and presentation then the core gameplay. His games just aren't that fun to play, even if it's a remake of one of the greatest games ever made. :p

I think Too Human will make this painly obvious. It's too ambious for Silicon Knight. They'll be too scattered trying to put everythign they want in the game and forget to make the game fun. Why else do you guys think it's been in developement for so long?

Uh oh!

Yeah, the game started on the PS1, if I remember correctly.

You have a very extrange fixation with everything fat, Oli.

I just thought it was awesome that he lost all the weight. I remember him saying how much better he felt. It's sad that he's packing it back on.

You're just adding insult to your injury behind your point. Just because a game gets reviewed well does not mean my opinion is going to be that the game isn't average. Seeing that all reviews are fundamentally opinions, there's no way to prove a game is quality by linking to gamerankings. If anything, it shows a inability for you to defend the game without resorting to immature press whoring.

For the record, I made my point about Eternal Darkness WAY before we knew most of the info on Too Human. So any potential "Nintardism" as motivation is pretty well bunk.

Feel free to read my opinion about the game, posted back in the year 2004, here.

When Eternal Darkness came out the nbots found it awesome and the others sh@t on it and then when Sillicon Knights left the nbots started hating on it and the others started to find it awesome.

What a cr@ppy world!

i wasn't a fan of eternal darkness or soul reaver, but they had decent bits. i thought the magic in ed was good but woefully underused and the theme was good, but the controls were crap, the gameplay tedious and the story was too pretentious for my taste.

i think silicon knights has the potential to make a decent game, so i'm interested in giving too human a try.

Dyack and Silicon Knights are great story tellers, but I don't think they are the best programmers or artists. The fact that Twin Snakes had framerate problems just makes me sick, especially after playing MGS3 for inferior hardware.

I can remember looking forward to Too Human back on PSX. I think they have a really great idea and theme, but it is unknown if the gameplay and mechanics will be good enough to make it....fun.

This one isn't on my radar anymore.

DenisDuckFat total.

I like Denis. Used to chat with him now and again when Jon Metts was all excited about ED. had an interview lined up with him and everything for right after E3 one year, but that was when Nintendo did the 'media blackout' on all their second parties right after E3.

I'd bet pale has more to do with Winter living in Canada:)

Cool interview! REALLY looking forward to this game. And ED Kicked FUCKING ASS

May the rats eat your eyes if you don't believe.

It's true. But I always liked SK and ED. I've been an SK fan since back in the days of the original LoK.

That is a load of crap. Much like Rare, the Nintendo base has been split about SK for a long time. There was a rift with ED that grew with MGS. When it was found out that SK was developing for other consoles the side that still liked them just went silent and the side that had always hated them became dominant. Only a small percentage of people changed their opinions after SK left.

SK is a decent developer. They have a lot of good ideas, but are not very good at implementing them. Their (character) modelers are a pack of drunks, who range from great to ass, depending on their BAL.

I find the expectation that Too Human will be awesome and sell great to be cute. The game was announced 9 years ago (10?) and has seen so many revisions and new systems. They clearly lack direction. It now resurfaces, using a number of ED assists and being stripped down. SK hasn't seen successful sales, despite tieing their name to Nintendo with all the free hype and publicity that brings and despite having the Metal Gear Solid franshise. Too Human will probably, eventually, be a pretty good game, but it isn't going to be a blockbuster.

I remember talking breifly with a fat-Dyack at one of the E3s. He seemed like a good guy who was really excited about what he did. I liked that. I personal preffer fat-Dyack to skinny-Dyack. Perhaps he can settle on a nice balance between the two.

Now they're working with X360. Isn't too hard to do a game that feels powered. And thy're pretty good art doted, so I think they could do a great experience with TOO HUMAN.

Anyway, it's going to be a trilogy so divide one game into tree chapters... doesn't like the idea, as Shenmue show me isn't good.
