Look at the fucking state of this marketing. Expansion passes, Limited Editions, Beta Access, Figurines.

We haven't even seen the game running. I despise this industry on occasion.

I agree but on the flipside, some of that was leaked. I dont think it was intended to start off this way intentionally.

I think so. I feel like that's why Osiris left.

:)

Fuck, I love Destiny lore.

At the end of the day, I don't like the tone of the trailer but it just doesn't matter. The humor is just surface level. The deep lore of Destiny is dark and fantastical.
That's the biggest draw for me. The lore is amazing.

Then don't preorder? I know it's GAF and we like to rage against everything, but come on guys.

Really? I find that to be the least interesting part of the game for me. Couldnt care less.

The Grimoire is literally the most wanted feature for the game. Since day one, everyone has been grilling Bungie to put the Grimoire in the game instead of their website.

Too right I won't pre-order. I want to see the game first.

Let's see the rage when game-play drops and it's the same game with different textures. (Not saying it will be, it will likely be great, but you know, perspective)

Company wants to advertise game and make money oh the horror.

What game?

sequel to the internationally acclaimed Destiny

I'm excited to see what Destiny 2 has to offer, but was Destiny really "internationally acclaimed."

Unless they meant this:

I still dont get this game as a PC player and this trailer did %0 thing to convince me

not even brief gameplay , why would i buy this game ? It looks like lame version of Borderlands humour with generic robot designs

hard pass

Destiny comes out in September. Why wouldn't they start marketing the game now?
No ones forcing anyone to buy anything right now. Don't really get the outrage. Gameplay comes out in a month and half. Which to me feels like fucking forever, but in reality isn't that far away.

Also why would I or anyone want the gameplay to change??

Why would there be rage if the core gameplay remains the same? I'm so lost here.

Maybe wait for the gameplay because the game isn't out until September?

You mean games may end up being a disappointment for some players and that might cause some people to rage?
Seems like every other game ever launched that ends up failing?

I'm just curious why this trailer is bothering so many people that obviously don't care for the franchise.

It's either gonna be on Steam or through the Blizzard launcher (Activision owns Blizzard, remember).

They don't own Blizzard. In fact it was Blizzard who was key player and money infuser so Activision was able to escape Vivendi's orbit. They are more equal partners with both having their independence.

They can market a game for years for all I care as long as I see it first and believe it's something worth my money.

It's not forcing anyone, I agree, but it's manipulating the hardcore fans into parting with their money, before any real details about the game are released...and it grates me.

Not sure how anyone is being manipulated into deciding to preorder a video game.

Here's the release date. Here's the synopsis. Here's two trailers. Here's when you'll see gameplay. Here's when there'll be a beta. Here's the initial content path. Here's where you can preorder if you so choose.

I hope overall it's the same gameplay and they don't change up the fundamentals of the game. Just give me more content, new awesome guns and more raids and they can have all my money.

You mean... marketing?

I'm a hardcore fan and I know many others who haven't preordered.
No ones being manipulated. Also fun facted you can cancel pre-orders(depending where you go obviously. Reasons 101 why I don't like pre-order through psn)! Will see in a month in half what this game looks like and then also the beta. I'm sure E3 will have another large trailer as well. Bungie isn't hiding anything at all nor are they mind controlling us.

I honestly used to think I wanted this, but I really don't. Grimoire is rad and all, but I want my time in the game to be spent playing it, not reading short stories.

However, I'd be all for a short-hand implementation. Make my ghost give me the cliff-notes version while still giving me the full thing to read later. All that being said, I wouldn't be against them making those entries viewable in-game for those who want it. I just personally wouldn't touch them.

My personal opinion is marketing should start when there is a product to sell. In this case and many others in the industry we are given the opportunity to pre-order something we have zero knowledge of what it may turn out like. I have confidence that Destiny 2 will be worth the wait, but I don't appreciate the marketing blitz that's started already over 2 CGI trailers. Gameplay is the meat and two veg of a game. Let me see that first before asking for my money.

Anyway, rant over.

Grimoire cards are short reads though. Not sure they could get any shorter.

Grimoire are good reads when people quote good stuff, the problem is I'm not going out of my way to read them.

Maybe put them in loading screens as they really do flesh out the universe

True. And they already have books to check things off in. Would be entirely feasible to design something to be more of a codex for collected grimoire, grouped by subject or location found, etc.

I don't understand the objection.

My confidence in pre-ordering the LE is mainly down to 1000 hours (and counting) of D1. My GoAT easy.

Actually, I don't really understand the objection despite all that.

That's entirely fine! Nothing wrong with wanting to see more before you spend your own money... But to say that people who are preordering now, after being either satisfied with what they know so far or because Destiny Y1 was their most played/favorite game, are being manipulated is a bit rash.

Some of them definitely can. I only just started reading them, but most of the newest Ghost Fragments are basically short stories. Haven't had the chance to look through and see how many are like that, but having shorter cards could be even better.

They could just have a cliff-notes version of a given story told by your ghost, while the shorter ones could be like audio-logs.

People hung up on them not showing gameplay.... Could you not just, I don't know, watch or play Destiny right now? Are you expecting it to be dramatically different for some reason?

Audio logs for the Grimoire would be great for times when you just want to chill in a social space/settlement/outpost/hub and absorb the lore of the game's universe, or when you're out and about in the much-larger-than-destiny 1's patrol areas exploring.

I wish they would do that tbh.

In terms of the world? I hope so. God I hate patrols, orbit, the tower. I want it all seamless (other than loading screens for different planets).
I want to know the new activities they talked about, new powers, new weapons.

Interesting, didn't know this. Figured Activision was overseeing Blizzard but gave them autonomy because they've earned it.

As long narrator isn't Nolan "I'm in every videogame ever" North.

I'm surprised some people think this sequel will be hugely different. Bungie said the last three years have been hugely lucrative for them, so I doubt they will change the plan too much.

Technically, they could be wealthy enough that they don't care anymore. But I don't think this is very likely, given their relationship with Acti.

You rant makes little sense, they have already announced when gameplay is being shown, we will probably have a game informer article in the next couple weeks. I would wait till after you see the gameplay but for me I have preordered and I am in day one because of how much I like destiny 1.

The marketing blitz is part of the process, it's always going to be that way but if you are unsure than there's nothing wrong with not preordering and waiting.

I'd like to see gameplay from Destiny 2, because I want to see what has changed from Destiny 1...

Have they added a good campaign this time around?
Can I find people to play with, without having to go on neogaf or other third party websites?
Are there more vehicles this time around?
What are the multiplayer modes and options?

etc.
