Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

I did some searching and couldn't find the answer to this question.

Do we know anything about the other competitive multiplayer modes other than the one type that's in the alpha?

Pretty enjoyable so far, not sure if its the alpha or my net acting shitty but the disconnects are a pain in the arse, presumably a "grace window" will be added later, because dc'ing just before defeating that first boss was frustrating to say the least (as it took forever)

Love the game, and will pre-order it, it's a must buy for me.

However, here's my main problems with the game.

- Probably has the worst haircut selection I've seen in a game. All of them are just hilariously bad that I was wondering if Bungie purposely made them having bad helmet hair. Get some normal hairstyles please.

- Dinklage. I get what Bungie was trying to do with him but it's failing. Maybe what could help is to add a robotic filter to the voice? That will help the robot lifelessness to actually make sense. Plus the voice is too 'clear'. It's like a narration rather than coming from the AI companion.

- Also have some asian looking faces in the character customisation please?

There is an Asian face for human females and human males. They are alright but look worse in-game.

No offense to you or anything, but when did you decide to start flipping the x axis in shooter games? I don't think I've ever met anyone who as done that. Y axis, yeah, but never the X.

No offense taken, I don't know when I decided to flip it, I just think that's always the way I've done it. Inverted controls is like a tri-pod mounted camera so it makes sense to me. I rarely play shooters on console to begin with, I always play them on PC with KB/M. Since Destiny doesn't have a PC release (yet), console is what I have to work with. Killzone: Shadow Fall was the first FPS I ever played on a console and it had inverted X and Y so I figured that was just standard like every other TPS and Action game I play on consoles.

As expected, this plays a lot like Halo. Not that it's a bad thing, as I've wanted a more social and explorable shooter with the type of gameplay that Halo offers. Destiny is pretty much that, which is great. Although it seems unlikely that a PC version will release, I really prefer to play first-person shooters on that. Regardless, I could see myself purchasing this for the PS4 down the line.

Wow, Crucible is way more fun than I expected.

I don't get the hate for the announcer either. I like him more than most competitive announcers that try too hard to sound badass.

Where do you set difficulty? I must have missed a whole section of this game. Im hearing of strike missions and names and shit i have no idea where they are.

When you pick "The Devil's Lair" from orbit you get to select a difficulty right from that screen.

I went pretty far out where enemies insta kill you. Then I somehow managed to end up at the starting area. Weird.

Also how do you end up finding people then have them vanish? I don't understand.

For some reason I've hardly seen anybody around today :/

From what I've noticed, the only way to end up in a popular Tower server is to arrive there after a Strike.

Pretty much every time I go to it there's people there. I read that there was a bug going on with the Tower where it would be unpopulated.

Finally managed to beat Devil's lair without spending half an hour on the Devil Walker It's really easy if everybody knows how to shoot straight.

Yup. I really hope Bungie doesn't tone down the health/difficulty of the bosses because some people think they are bullet sponges on their first run through.

I'm really impressed by the lightning and different times of day. It was nighttime during my first trip to the Tower, I just kind of assumed it'd be night all the time there. Went back later in the daytime and was like

Somewhat curious to see what this looks like on 360/PS3...

About to max my last class...

It would be really nice to let the player toggle the flashlight on and off whenever they wanted to, as there are some extremely dark areas where the flashlight is not enabled and it makes it a real pain to explore every nook and cranny when you can barely see.

I like that you don't get a minimap from the very beginning, but maybe when you do the survey missions you can start to piece together some semblance of a map? Maybe not one that's available outside of menus (or like a faint overlay that pops up when you summon your Ghost), but it's a huge pain trying to keep everything straight in your head when the area is so large. I found my way to the original E3 trailer area last night (the highway with all of the derelict cars), but I've been wandering for hours today and I can't seem to find it again...

I found this place where the Hive and Fallen were fighting each other, and after a few minutes of the grunts fighting, ALL the big level enemies (save for a devil walker) came out and started fighting.

I mean 5+ Hive Wizards, 5+ Hive Knights, 5+ Fallen Knights, 5+ of those floaty ball things, etc. There seemed to be about 25 high level enemies on the field at once just bashing each other. It was craziness.

I did all three missions and played some online matches. I love this game. So good, the graphics are top notch, the setting, the atmosphere. Really like this. Wish there was stuff to talk about with the NPCs. The gameplay is super fun with the abilities. One thing I really dislike is the bosses or strong units, they have way too much health. I fought a tank with two other teammates and it felt like we were shooting it for 30 minutes. They take way too long to die. Other than that, fantastic game. Can't wait to explore other worlds and bigger areas.

Really enjoying the Alpha so far. My only real complaint so far is that the world feels rather...empty. I'm hoping that by the time the final game launches Bungie will have added more loot drops and items scattered about. There's times where you'll be wandering through corridors and unless you run into enemies, you'll never see any ammo/loot. Maybe it's designed that way on purpose but just something I noticed while playing. Overall I really dig the gameplay and I can see myself putting ALOT of time into Destiny. Awesome game.

I feel the same, you discover and scout multiple buildings and all of them are empty besides one or two green boxes.

Revolvers don't do enough damage... can't compete with all the spamming in MP.

I think the auto rifle is too stable, there isn't a reason to use any other gun. Everything else you need let the gun settle between shots. Auto rifle should have more muzzle climb, and maybe have slightly more spread. Maybe the scout rifle is viable too, I haven't spent time with it in crucible.

Can't mess with the damage/ttk too much or the sniper becomes OP I think.

PVP is better than I expected, but I think hunter skills utility is way better than the other classes right now. Double jump >>> everything else.

Finally managed to beat Devil's lair without spending half an hour on the Devil Walker It's really easy if everybody knows how to shoot straight.

Yeah, it can go a lot smoother if you coordinate with your teammates properly. We got into an L shaped formation to take heat off whoever was focusing on the legs. Finally took the sucker down. Also helps to have decent guns. Somehow found a rifle that does ~700 damage.

Can someone inform me how to upload high res screenshots from my PS4

I think people have suggested uploading to Facebook and then downloading from there. Or, messaging another account on PSN and attaching the photo. Not done it myself so can't confirm.
