Destiny Alpha Thread: Impressions from the wild [Code Begging=ban]

Yeah, it's kinda like Reach + ADS.

Basically my least favorite Halo multiplayer + my most despised FPS gameplay mechanic. Bungie doesn't want me to touch the multiplayer, confirmed, LOL.

Oh well, the co-op portion of the game still looks pretty sweet, so it's ok I guess.

Maybe just, and stay with me here, play it first and then make up your mind?

so I haven't had a chance to read through this thread (in the process) but can somebody tell me whats the overall reception of the alpha (from those that have played it or seen people streaming). I know that before the alpha, many a people were very negative in how the game looked kinda boring. Thanks

Let's assume that I get a code tomorrow afternoon while I am at work -- if I redeem it via my phone, will I be able to have the Alpha be downloaded and installed before I get home?

I'm a newbie with my PS4.

I have seen a lot of positivity, and several people say they are sold on the game now

This game is great. Should I pick Disipline or Intellect gear for my hunter? :)

"Strength reduces the cooldown of your melee special. Discipline reduces the cooldown of your grenade and Intellect reduces the cooldown of your super.

There's another stat, Light, which was only available on high-level gear. I remember reading it as "reduces the cooldown of your super" too, but that doesn't seem to make much sense now that I think of it. Perhaps one of the other alpha players can offer input there."

according to reddit. also as cities burn >highfive

I can't play it yet, so I can only talk about what I'm seeing now, in the streams.

I've played enough Reach (over 20 days of total playtime) to recognize the same kind of bullshit when I see it. I didn't like it then, and I won't like now. As for ADS, while it seems certainly not as severe as in something like COD, I still don't like it. If it was implemented like in Bioshock, where it is completely optional, I'd be fine, but sadly they implemented accuracy penalties for not using it, and while they are not huge, they are still there, and I hate it.

Anyway, I'll play the beta in July (hell, I'm buying the PS4 this week just to play it) and I'll buy the full game in September, because even if I'm not interested in the multiplayer, the adventure/RPG/co-op element of the game still looks great.

The customization is going to be deep right? This is the one game where I'd actually try to make a great looking character.

Thanks, found out that You get info when you oress Triangle. Loving the menu system and the way you compare items. So satisfying!

(acb love)

I will preface this with the three weapons I used: auto rifle, shotgun, and heavy machine gun.

I almost always used ADS with the auto rifle but it had a scope. At really close ranges, I could hip fire comfortably and still take enemies out. With the shotgun, I ADS'd significantly less. Your aiming is a bit more stable when you're ADS'd but at close range it's on you to decide if speed and mobility is more important than accuracy. It's pretty easy to nail someone at close range with a shotgun or fusion rifle by just hip firing.

I will say that the accuracy penalty for hip firing in Destiny is MUCH less than games like Battlefield.

It feels really comfortable in this game though.

Glad to hear that, too many games these days seem to think there is no middle ground between pray and spray and a damn sniper shot. Games are still a long way from the flexibility of actually moving with a weapon.

Good news for everyone! :D

I see a lot of people complaining that specials and vehicles are feeling OP for multiplayer. Being that I haven't played the game yet I really can't speak to wether that's accurate or not, however...

That feature video released today seemed to show some high level dodge/blink techniques that I'm guessing would greatly assist in avoiding a special attack or a blast from one of those hover tanks.

Just an observation, albeit perhaps a premature one

Specials I don't think are. You have to build them up and they're not guranteed kills if you miss with them. The only one that I could say comes close would be the hunters golden gun. Vehicles the tank like one I'd agree might be a hair overpowered. But it's not super bad and I'm sure they still have balance passes to make.

Oh also for those that join. If you want the clan tag to show up you also have to make sure you select on the site to be a part of the clan too. After you do that then it will show up in game.

Game feels great. The little effects like the wind snow and lighting are cool. Guns feel good and have some kick. My only issues are a few minor glitches I found like sometimes the hunters cape stretches out the length of the screen in the tower. But other than that I am loving this game. Also randomly dancing with people is fun. I still need to try out the strikes and the pvp but so far the game feels great.

This reminds me of a more mature Ratchet and Clank game. Very similar gameplay and progression, just with a bit more sandboxiness, coop, pvp and loot.

Jumpships are just cosmetical it seems. Grinding is similar also, you run the same levels a few times until you unlock the hardest difficulty (story).

Pretty cool from a R&C fan.
