Are the servers down or something because I'm not seeing anyone in the tower and haven't seen anyone just exploring for awhile
Im getting an unable to connect to server error and i also try signing in online and it says unable to retrieve account so maybe the server are down. I do have a bungie.net account. I can sign into the normal one but not the alpha one.... hmmmm

Did they ever announce a Collectors Edition for this game? I googled and all I see is this stuff from back in March, saying "Asks us again next week". Guess they never did announce anything?

Been playing the alpha for a couple of hours (multiplayer). Feels decidedly last gen - the 30 fps and Reach style visuals make it feel old - in fact Halo 4 on 360 runs and looks as good. Hope there's a hook to the main game, as Destiny MP is not going to be taking up much of my time.

You guys need to chill.

It's an ALPHA.

You honestly don't think Bungie knows some of the shit you guys are saying?

Really digging the game. My anticipation rose pretty high after playing this. The game feels like Mass Effect, Borderlands and Phantasy Star Online had a threesome and spawned a beautiful baby.

I don't know man, you should go back and replay Halo 4.
Have done just that - back to back. Remember, I'm just referring to MP. Further, I'm describing the feel as being last gen. Feels and looks very similar to H4 from the previous gen.

Quite aware that it's in Alpha. It's not buggy and the framerate is consistent. You know as well as I do that not much is going to change in terms of the look or feel prior to release. A 60 fps PC version would help.

So I'm looking at the different skill trees...What's the point of "Illumination: Seal this subclass, locking previous choices"?

I was reading an article on the game and this is what I can tell you: Destiny allows you to freely swap your ability choices, but according to Green there comes a point when you can lock them in. This gives your Guardian benefits, such as a stat boost. At this point you get a copy of the same focus, but that copy levels up much faster, thus allowing experimentation.

There's a ton of stuff left to discover and experiment with in the full version of the game. :)

come onnnnnn, I'm on one one of these level 6 co-op missions and we've been at what is presumably the last boss (devil walker) for like half an hour. wtf.

Not really diggin it. The environments are nice, gunplay is solid and I like how you can pick up quests in the world via a beacon or w/e it is you fine. Feels like pretty standard stuff though, I can see others liking it if they haven't played MMO's much. Also seems like your super takes way to long to charge up and sort of random as well. Just to allow 3 shots or so as a Hunter.

I hope people enjoy it though and Bungie puts out a product people love. Best of luck to everybody.

Awesome game! I'm confident this will be game of the year. I got a vibe from Mass Effect and Bordelands playing... and... Guild Wars 2 with the event(gigant robot) you kill with a lot of other players.

Awesome :D

played a couple of hours, really enjoyed it. i like the free booting around picking up missions and running events. got to level 6 and some nice loots, decided to run the strike mission. well we take down the mech eventually, not too shabby, and then in the next section a door glitches out and doesn't open and we're stuck. dangit. tis the way of all alphas though, suppose i should file a bug report.

Played about thirty minutes. Fucking love it. This game is going to be a major time consumer for me. Only gripe thus far is that I can't fly the ship myself. No Man's Sky put that desire in me and it won't go away. Anyway, I started off and was amazed that the character creator is included, along with a choice of the three classes. I created my char and got into the first mission. Hit the trackpad to see my objective and saw a button command for a vehicle and return to orbit. I hit the corresponding button and nothing happened, so I figured it wasn't available in Alpha. As I played further I realized this is a game that wants you to hold down the button as opposed to press it for certain commands. So after I finished the first mission (and unsucessfully tried to catch up to two other players whose names I saw ahead of me), I held down the button for vehicle and was fucking stoked when the equivalent of a Star Wars speeder bike showed up. HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. I get paid tomorrow and I'm going to gamestop and giving them 65 bucks. This is the first game in a long while that I'll pick up on midnight.

Anyway, it feels very Bungie. From the enemy voices when they see you to the way the enemies react to you. This is a game I'll def play on a higher difficulty level and love every minute of. What else what else...oh yeah, it's bleeping gorgeous. If they can polish this up before launch then we're in for a visual treat.

So anyway, I completed the first mission in about 20 minutes and was ready for a "thanks for playing" message, but it appears there's more to play. I haven't explored all the available areas yet, but after a quick glance it looks like I can squeeze at least another hour out of this.

Traded my first code away and didn't think I'd have time to play, but I got a second code and decided to keep/use it. Very happy I did.

This is going to be something we talk about for a long time, guys. I'm bummed that this will end on Sunday, but at least I'll get access to the beta. If you liked Halo, you should at least check this out. If you love Halo (like I do), I'd bet you'll love this.

I completely agree. I played this for about a half hour and thought "Wow, this is fucking Halo. Sony finally has Halo, just under a new name." In fact, somebody better call Rob Zombie because I think its more Halo than Halo is now.

Wish I could get more time with it, but its a terrible week for me. At least it confirmed that I'll be there right away on September 9th. That half hour was enough to know that.

Do you know what Alpha means?

Back in the day, at least for someone who read game magazines, I never thought the public would ever get access to a game in Alpha. I always thought it meant the game was too early to be shown off, like a production copy or something. Hell, I thought betas were only meant for payed game testers. Now betas are preorder bonuses or sign up sheets on websites.

I think this game is at 720p because it's a alpha. Which is why the world......looks weird....jaggy edges and pixelation on the end of small objects like flowers, wires angled edges and things. Objects don't look SMOOTH, they look garbled, not clear at a distance. This is not something that is present in a 1080p game. But since many betas and alphas I know, the resolution is usually lower than the actual commercially released game. I just hope that it is at 1080p.

The frame rate is the number one bother for me. Kinda used to playing everything at 60 fps on my PC and going back to 30 on my consoles..........now i understand what PC gamers been saying now that Im a new PC gamer. And I dont even think its 30, it feels even lower than that, for some reason, i just remember 30fps games looking smoother. The frames sometimes drop between heavy action. Again, because this is a alpha, I don't think this is also a true representation of the final released game.

the field of view is kinda of small. like there this tunnel vision going on, like you cant see much around you. From the size of the gun, it seems like the camera is pulled in so close to the gun itself, making the gun look huge, taking up like 25% of your visible space. There isn't much area awareness with a field of view with the camera being pulled up so close to the gun and making your cone of vision smaller, making it harder to see things on the side of your character. They need to pull back camera so there would be a better field of view, or allow a slider that would allow the player to make that choice. With a high field of view(camera being pulled back, away from the gun), it will allow the player to see more of the screen without having to move the camera.

I like the fact that your skills get better as you use them. I'm playing a warlock and I was my grenade and melee a lot and i noticed everything I killed an enemy with my skills, in the skills menu, this circle around the next locked skill itself was filling up.

the simple, minimalist inventory and equipment screens is quite nice and looks clean and easy to use and understand. Selecting the items you want to equip and the information about the weapon itself is quite cleaver in the way the display what needs to be seen. They use colors and font pretty effectively to make information very clear to see and understand.

I did notice when switching equipment, there was a long delay before the item would become visible on my character.

The combat itself, i guess is nothing anyone hasnt seen before. You can tell this is a bungie game because the combat and the enemy behavior is just................so much like halo, that you cant help but compare because it feels SO similar to that gameplay style. This is not a bad thing because the combat in halo games was always top notch. But it's nothing new in other words. They knew what works and what they are good at doing so they went with that, is what I feel.

The button layout will also be very familiar to those playing call of duty and halo. the control layout options can be changed to fit other first person shooter titles so you'll feel right at home with how you control the game.

the addition of the powers is a nice touch to the combat, but I feel like..........not sure how to put it.........la simple add on tot he combat, or just not fleshed out more or something.

From the powers, i've seen in the trailer videos, i thought it was more like mass effect quality of powers, how there's quite a bit of powers to select and use and you can do lots of combat using your powers only. The powers from what I feel in this game is more like a super power move that you can only use once in a while. I'd like for them to flesh out the powers more so that more powers can be used besides that one and used more frequently in battle, so i'm not reliant on my weapons 90% of the time in combat. Like, tapping the R1 will melee, but holding down the R1 button uses a weaker power, but can be used frenquently and pressing the R1+L1 uses another power, but holding down the R1+L1 uses a different but more powerful power. Like different powers with different cooldown lengths and powers types of variable strengths.

I'm really digging the game so far. It could use some more additions but what they got so far is great.

So, I want to speak exclusively about competitive MP.. I really think there can be some good tweaks to make the MP more competitive:

-Making special weapon ammo more rare. Just to make it more special, as I find it pretty easy to stock up on Shotgun ammo and then stay in CQC. I really feel that it's too lethal of a combination as it is right now to carry good stocks of special and primary ammo.

-Sprint is thankfully different in this game compared to games like COD. It is VERY difficult to turn when sprinting. You can turn around faster when you are walking. This makes sprint important for those dashes (actually SPRINTING), but more than that, it makes it a conscious effort, as opposed to a default action. While I do feel the game could be better without sprint (despite slowing the game down), it does seem to promote a more thoughtful playstyle. All that is needed is for most players to kick the "sprint by default" option.

...At least I think. Melee feels like Halo in that there is a lunge, and sprint may make that annoying, though it doesnt seem to be the case at the moment.

-I absolutely dislike ADS. I feel that Killzone 2 is the very best implementation of what I wish Bungie did in competitive: you should be able to fire from your crosshairs with relative ease/precision, and the ADS should be used rarely for those long distance kills

-The game very much feels like Halo's approach to combat in regards to the variety you have at your disposable to kill an enemy. You can escape some fights, and then play peekabo around walls with the enemy... they throw a nade, you throw yours, you may anticipate his super charge attack, you can close in for the shottie + melee finish, you decide to jump in the air and find yourself both hopping around....

-But ADS really clashes hard with this... all things considered in the last point above, you still have to ADS instinctually to kill the enemy. Crosshair firing will not work. And this just makes it clumsy: you try to jump, throw grenades, use a charge, all while trying to ADS.

-ADS also really slows the game down, from what would and should otherwise be a smoother style of gunplay.

I really hope they consider tweaking the MP. We already have a third person view for the Tower, so it's not like the game would seem alienating from the rest of the content.

Was quite liking it until I tried the strike mission. Takes Borderlands bulletsponge to an absolute extreme.

Feels very technically solid (although did have one nasty crash), but the campaign gameplay needs a lot more time in the oven.

Just tried 2 multiplayer matches, and had a ton of fun. The multiplayer alone makes me want this game. I can't believe how well I did on my first match, I wish I took a screenshot of it. I didn't win my first match, but it was still fun. I like the high jumping, and hovering while in a gun fight. I was trying to stay as mobile as possible while fighting someone. I am a titan so I try to get into peoples face and punch them with his ability.

My second match was even better. I still did great, and my team did good too. We had total control over the map the entire time. Not sure how I feel about special abilities yet. While it's cool to use, it's pretty much a 1 hit kill. I killed 3 players with my Titans's ability at once. Vehicles I think are decent. I haven't been in 1 myself, but they seem to do some good destruction and speed up travel.

I was on mic the entire time trying to help my team, and I think I did well. My team seemed to listen to some of my suggestions, and secured the right places. I was also on mic during free roam, but that was terrible. It felt so... weird. No one else was talking, it was just me chatting with myself. Maybe everyone muted me but I just couldn't tell lol.

Played about an hour so far. Really loving it. There seems to be a lot of depth, though loot seems really basic? Health and ammo from what I've seen. Graphics are great other than some low-res textures here and there. Gunplay feels fantastic, and the supers are awesome.

This game is so good folks! Completely caught me off guard. I'm going to put my preorder down tomorrow so I can get some more time with this game in the beta! Bravo bungie. It just feels so good. The impact of everything has such a punch. Really neat how the hub seems like ffxiv.

That hand cannon :-)

Yeah it's definitely changed, and I'm not sure it's good for the game. In an Alpha you shouldn't expect good frame rate, lighting, resolution, or even geometry... just the basics are being tested... or the what's supposed to be most important for gamers "game play"

Even the game play can be tweaked at this time, and they'll probably take some feedback, and adjust the game for the beta. Folks need to chill on all the graphical stuff, and if the game play is off... be constructive about it.

From what I played seems 1080p with some bad post AA.

Edit - Beyond3D says it is 1080p too.

I like the game a lot, but I have couple gripes.

1. Load times. They aren't horrible, but most of the loading screens have no loading indicators. You just see the ship floating or something like that. Mainly traveling between worlds. I kept thinking the game crashed or something.

2. Shields. GOD I hate the whole Halo shields stuff. I wish Bungie would just get rid of shields altogether.

3. No headshots? I'm guessing the shields negate precise targeting for headshots? Annoying to me. If I take the time to aim, I should get a reward, no? Or maybe I'm using the wrong guns fir headshots? (auto rifle at point blank?)

Those are my big 3 gripes. I really like the overall gameplay though. MP (Cricible) is fun. And loot is of course what will keep me coming back for more.

Good job, so far Bungie! Keep it up!

Can someone please tell me what the email address request was for, the first time you boot the game? I accidentally skipped that step, and now I can't go back. Thanks.

Headshots are in, but they're not one-hit kills. They're crits or something like that though.

When I get headshots, the damage indicator is yellow.

So what are these cards I keep seeing unlocked in my game? It tells me to go to Bungie.net to find out more, but I can figure out where on the site to look.

Just finished 4 and a half hours of playing (and streaming) for tonight and I really like it. Got a level 8 Titan at the moment. Looks nice and clean at 1080p and even though the framerate drops below 30 here and there it's not too distracting and it's so minimal right now I can't even imagine it being a problem come September. Combat is straight up Halo and the enemies are too even down to the animations. Not that I have an issue with that. I love Halo. Objectives are pretty much just fetch quests now though, not sure if that'll change soon. Can't fault it being an alpha. Going to jump right back in tomorrow, probably stream again at http://www.twitch.tv/gavinuk86 if anyone wants to give me a follow and chat when I do. All in all, pretty good!

Yeah i've heard Bungie is working to get those load times down, but they are quite long.

As for the shields, they aren't quite as tough as in the Halo games, and I think it adds a nice strategic element to the combat.

And headshots are definitely in the game. Watch for the yellow numbers!

My first rare craft!

Too bad I can't use it, lol

where do you go to buy cloaks?

Hunter quartermaster or the vendor outside where you spawn in. The latter is like the vendor in Diablo where you gamble your money for an item with random stats/level. He also identifies items you pick up in the field.

And the long cloaks are level 10 and higher it seems. At level 8, I'm stuck with a half torn cloak.

Can someone please tell me what the email address request was for, the first time you boot the game? I accidentally skipped that step, and now I can't go back. Thanks.
It asked you to link your email addy to Bungie so that it can update you.

Edit:
I'm not seeing any of my Destiny activity on bnet - has anyone else? (perhaps we'll have to wait for beta).

The stage boss battles are difficult.. 3 of us are maxed rank (8) with very good weapons and it still takes 15-25 minutes and thousands of bullets to take it down. I guess this is how they get you to grind for better gear but it still sucks. visiting the tower and the PVP modes are a lot more fun. Is it possible to explore the world without having to fight the enemies?
