Oof, good question. Part of me says: as much as I hated the burns I hated HM Scrota with the fiery passion of a thousand suns so it wouldn't be worse than that.
The big problem however is that Skolas: Burn Edition was way more of a gear check than the current Skolas: Good Edition. I've taken Lv33s with non-upgraded weapons, people rocking sub-300 Attack heavies instead of GHorn, using 274 Atk Vision for DPS, etc. Those things would straight up not be possible with Arc or Solar burns. Lots of deaths are manageable currently, but with burns people would die way more frequently and the constant influx of timer-based add spawns means you could never recover.
Changing the add spawns to be Skolas HP-triggered was the most crucial change. Even during Void burn week many newbies I've run would've struggled to stay alive long enough to play out the encounter "as intended" simply due to add overload. It was also just boring and felt random, so wipes would be more discouraging. Now you can see clear improvement each attempt and you feel in control. Groups remain optimistic even after tough wipes, a sign of good encounter design.
