If it's a good product, then people will buy it. It sounds like they've been engaged with third parties since E3 of last year. Kits were in the wild back in October. If they make their announcement at E3, what's the big deal? Is six months between announcement and release not enough time for consumers to get information? The people who seem really twisted up over this are journalists and people who take videogames far too seriously, who are important but will be the first to change their mind if the product is up to their standards.
Agree to disagree, due to taking a hit in power it was a mistake but the gamepad was/is a great amalgamation of existing tech and shouldn't just go away.I wish they would, because it was clearly a mistake.
If the 3ds is the major bread winner for nintendo and it is winding down then it is the 3ds that needs to be replaced first...not WiiU. You don't sacrifice guanteed money for a risk. A new handheld from nintendo is pretty much certain to do numbers no matter what it is. The NX home console is a risk.
BTW even according to Trev's source he said that the NX would launch in "ONE FORM" this year. IN fact he wasn't even sure if Zelda on the NX was even a 2016 title.
The handheld will launch first. Even amd hinted at that before the nx was even announced.

and look at this from a few days ago...

Can't qoute this post directly as it's in the master thread of locking, but have to wonder about it with these ps4.5, xb2 rumours. Could the NX not be using AMD after all?!

mmhh...
Hypothetically, if this was real, why would Nintendo be using what looks like a parallel port connector to connect the controller to something else? As far as I know, it is obsolete technology. Seems weird. Surely they'd be using some form of USB.
Unless somebody else knows what other type of connector that may be?
EDIT: on closer inspection, I guess it could really be any type of connector in a parallel shaped port. No way to know for sure, so speculating is pointless I guess.
Why would they push the handheld out that far? The 3DS is in its last legs. Even more so than the Wii U at this point. They have Pokemon. And uh. Thats it. It's so obvious that the first iteration of the NX is going to be a handheld.Agree to disagree, due to taking a hit in power it was a mistake but the gamepad was/is a great amalgamation of existing tech and shouldn't just go away.
Dude it's the console even if the sales of the handheld would prop up the Wii U for a bit it wouldn't hold it up for a year.
Release console on November, 20 2016. Handheld Spring or Summer 2017 hell if the console is doing well push it back to make the launch more robust.

Devkits typically have some extra ports on them for debugging and data transmission purposes. Even if this is real (I still don't think it is), you shouldn't read too much into the ports on the devkit.
While that is true, most of the 3DS's line-up this year are either coming from third parties, late localizations, or devs outside of Nintendo's internal teams (Game Freak, for example). Most of Nintendo's internal teams have likely moved on to the NX Platform, but everyone else is doing more than enough to pick up Nintendo's slack on the 3DS & keep it alive for at least the rest of 2016. If it'll last long past this year remains to be seen. While I could see the handheld dropping first in Japan, Nintendo would have to get the handheld out the door by Spring 2017 at the latest. And uh, Dragon Quest VII & VIII and Monster Hunter Cross to name a few more, the 3DS 2016 lineup is hardly just scraps. Trev's source is right, there is no reason to release the new handheld in 2016. Yes its heyday is over but 3DS will have more than enough content to keep people busy the rest of this year, they need to focus on revitalizing their home market which needs to be their first priority. The handheld can wait until early 2017.
All those games are out in Japan last year already. System will be approaching wii u numbers this year the way it's looking.
The handheld devkits are just dumb terminals connected by a cable to a custom box where the real guts are. I thought the cable looked a bit thin compared to some others though.
There are some pictures of debug units for 3DS here:

The 3DS? In Japan? Or are you talking world-wide because in the former, the 3DS will very, very likely be the top selling gaming platform by no small margin.

You know if Nintendo is getting all pissy that fake leaks are being released and giving off negative perceptions of the NX then it's their fault. It means they learned nothing from the Wii U reveal. They were radio silent for a whole damn year from the initial reveal at e3 2011 to 2012 and came into 2012 with some long ass demos of Reggie Zombi and NintendoLand.
Now Iwata name drops this thing at some mobile team up announcement to save face and not panic investors that they're abandoning the video game console market and won't talk about it till next year. A calendar year later and it's still radio silent with not even a final name, what it is, or when the announcement of when it's going to be shown is coming. It's the Wii U all over again.

If we don't get anything next month then they'll wait till E3 to reveal the whole thing.Yeah, it's still March.
To be honest...the (fake) controller didn't got much attention in the internet. So i guess Nontendo won't comment in any way to this. Only on NeoGaf people are still discussing about this topic.
This isn't the Wii U all over again. Nintendo wants to do it a certain way then it's fine. MS didn't reveal the Xbox One until May 2013 and it worked out fine for them. Everybody gets there info faster than ever. You don't need to talk about your new system 8-9 months prior to launch.
When did Microsoft announced they have a new system in the making? How long before the official reveal?
Really great NX fan concept. Even better than the supposed leaks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hH...e most (the one with the psp looking device).
They have Monster Hunter this summer which do numbers in the US now, along with Fire Emblem, Bravely Default 2, it can survive until the fall in which Pokemon drops to help it survive until the end of the Fall there is NOTHING on Wii U here or coming that could do the same, the release will be the console not the handheld. Why would they push the handheld out that far? The thing i dont get is why people are still saying, that Nintendo will first release their console and maybe a couple of months later the handheld.
Do people still believe that the console and handheld will be two different platforms? i think its pretty obvious that it will be just one thing (handheld/console in one)
Metaldave already said something like this in his videos, and i understand that he is not from Nintendo, but all the predictions/rumors he did before the last Direct were all true.
He isnt giving the respect he deserves imo, he told stuff in his videos that no one could know about. (even a couple of weeks ago) The videos are now gone from youtube.
Nintendo isnt capable of making games for 2 machines (history has shown that) So i really dont get why many people still think that it will be two machines instead of a handheld that can connect to the television.
I don't remember. As far as NX goes Iwata said he did it so everybody doesn't think they're going to stop making dedicated hardware. Either way the information is coming. All that matters is what Nintendo is trying to sell us. MS announced the X1 in May, but they had wrong ideas and it hurt them. It's all about what Nintendo shows us and what they're advertising.
What's the difference knowing the NX now compared to knowing it in 2 months? You'll have your info and you can make a decision if you like what you hear or not. It's a digital world everybody will get the info. 6 months is plenty of time, I think.
Plus, all of us are on dedicated gaming websites constantly in this news so it's kind of eating at us. The general gaming population isn't as dedicated as us for "what's the next info?"
It doesn't matter if the intention was good when announcing NX more than one year ago. You can't be both silent and controlling the message for that long. You just can't.
Microsoft wasn't hurt just by the DRM crap, there was already some negativity in the air because of the PS earlier reveal and early rumours about the power difference. The reveal didn't manage to change that and instead focused the attention even more on the bad things.
That is not entirely True, i have seen the picture on a lot of websites (not gaming sites) at least a couple of normal news sites.
So a lot of People think it is real (i dont by the way)
In the netherlands it was on their biggest newswebsite

Well Iwata passed and they took time to get restructured after that, look how long it took them to do an actual direct I'm sure that had something to do with it not every company is a mindless thoughtless machine and when Reggie said that Nintendo was like a family I find that believable and they were mourning now they are finally getting back to business as usual but the shadow still looms. You know if Nintendo is getting all pissy that fake leaks are being released and giving off negative perceptions of the NX then it's their fault. I'm not bothered by the radio silence, but I definitely think there's a section of the gaming public - who could be potential NX buyers - who'll assume that the longer they keep quiet, the more likely it is that there'll be a really mad gimmick attached, and due to this drift their attention to other things.
Nintendo has proven countless times that today's gimmicks quite often become tomorrow's standards. People dismissing it just because the Wii U's gimmick didn't catch on are irrational

What makes it even worse is like Nintendo is priming us for an NX reveal or something. Every new Nintendo Direct has a statement release saying.. "No NX information will be discussed" Or something like that. Like oh really? Then when? How many times yall gonna say the same thing.
Nobody really knowsPS: Did I use "whom" correctly there? I'm not quite sure... (Not english native speaker)
Nope, the one before that one too. The one where they showed TPHDI was thinking the last direct promo was the first time it had been mentioned like that but maybe not.
According to Kimishima from the last Financial Briefing or whatever that was, they start talking about it in the next business year. What makes it even worse is like Nintendo is priming us for an NX reveal or something.
