Just curious, what CG films would you rate ahead of it?

None that I can think of because what else is there besides Pixar and Shrek? As far as animation and movies in general, tons of stuff.

I have great difficulty in enjoying Shrek. It just feels like a series of cheap shots and parodies loosely strung together into a wafer-thin plotline. Eddie Murphy is as annoying as hell and the Scottish accent is a bloody gimmick that, unbelievably, everyone seems to have fallen for.

I even remember watching a making-of where they said "Mike did the voice in his usual accent, and it just didn't work.... then he did it in Scottish and it all came together", or something like that. HELLO? Doesn't that tell you there's something slightly shit about the story?

I'd put A Bug's Life somewhere on my list of favorite Pixar movies...

I find the shrek movies to be enjoyable at the time of initial veiwing but upon they get worse each time i watch after. All the pixar movies except for Bugs life are Timeless i can watch them over and over again.

I'm sure I heard Pixar boasting that they've "mastered humans" well they may have - but they've never shown us any examples - cartoon humans don't exactly count no matter how impressive they are. Closest thing I've seen to mastering humans was the FF movie.

They were human? Mastering computer animation in terms of Pixar's work is all about the ability to convey human mannerisms, not about photo-realism. They have mastered that, considering they made a film full of them.
