It's a concept car, not a production car...

Us peeps in SoCal have to settle for the half-assed LA Auto Show...a lot of the new concepts and brand new models are held from LA because of the Detroit show going on at the same time =/ There are times when some auto companies did a simultaneous debut of a new production model in both LA and Detroit though (like the last-gen Corvette and the New Beetle for example).

But because of the overlapping schedules the LA Auto show will be moving to November starting this year for now on.

Regardless I'll be checking out the LA Auto Show sometime this week anyways (depending on the weather)...when it all comes down to it, it's closest thing we have to Detroit's show without having to go there =P

I'm going to the Toronto Auto Show in Febuary for the 5th time in six years. It's the third biggest auto show in North America after Detroit and LA (might even be bigger then LA now), and it gets a lot of continental debuts, as well as some world debuts.

Here are the pics I took at last year's show, including Valentino Rossi's Honda, the BAR Honda F1, the Subaru GT4 Simulator, and of course some Lambos and Ferraris. Don't think the pics show up on the forum, so you'll just have to click.

I just can't go to these anymore. I used to always grab some auto company pass (pretty easy to get in SE Michigan) and drool over a car or two...but on the whole it's just crowded and blah like most trade shows.

I used to go when I was a kid, but they're just a pain in the ass now. I must be getting old cause last night I went (2002?) I just wanted to hang out downstairs, enjoy the space and check out those crazy conversion vans with thier entertainment systems built in.

Specifications:

Weight (estimated): 3,850 lbs. (1,746 kg)

Length: 151.8 inches (3,856 mm)

Wheelbase: 108.1 inches (2,746 mm)

Front Overhang: 25.0 inches (635 mm)

Rear Overhang: 18.7 inches (475mm)

Width: 80.0 inches (2,033 mm)

Height: 68.2 inches (1,732 mm)

Track, Frt/Rr: 67.5/67.5 inches (1,715/1,715 mm)

Engine: two 5.7-litre HEMI(R) engines

For example, powerful powertrain performance is an understatement considering the Jeep Hurricane is not just HEMI(R)-equipped, but HEMI squared. There are two 5.7-litre HEMI engines in the vehicle: one in the front and one in the back. Both engines deliver 335 horsepower and 500 N.m (370 lb-ft) of torque - a total of 670 hp and 1000 N.m (740 lb-ft) of torque.

Forget the concept car chopped roofline & ragtop. Forget the concept car interior. Here's the first real look at the first significant changes to the New Beetle since its introduction in 1998.

ragster_front.jpg

Note the rectangular turn signal lights, and the totally different grille & foglight treatment. It's hard to tell, but the headlights are slightly different as well.

ragster_rear.jpg

Brand new taillights, with integrated reverse lights. Rectangular turn signal lights. And a new "cut" in the bottom of the bumper. Note how the newly flattened outer fender surface curves underneath the bumper.

ragster_34.jpg

This angle really shows how much the side fenders have changed. They're now slab sided, rather than completely rounded. Also the indentation in front of the hood is much deeper towards the bumper than before.

Powertrain changes. The base engine will be a 2.5l inline 5, replacing the old and underpowered 2.0l 4. Also available is the 1.9l TDI, which was upgraded for the 2004 model year. And the newer 2.0l turbo is expected to replace the 1.8l turbocharged model.

I'm new to T.O.
When/Where would I get tickets to the T.O Auto show?

Well, here's the website for the show...

http://autoshow.ca/2005/default.asp

You can buy tickets online now at this link, or you can purchase them at the Skydome or two convention centres on the days of the show. I always go for the two day pass and attend on the two Saturdays, as it's almost impossible to see everything in one day (particularly if it's your first time there).

Oh yeah, if you register at that site, you can enter daily drawings until the end of the month to win a ticket.

its bigger than the chicago auto show??

I'm not sure, but it's right up there...chances are Chicago beats it for size. Toronto (along with Detroit) is the only auto shows in North America that's received international designation by the OICA, which I know was pretty significant for the organisers. That means they're able to get a decent number of international debuts.

Jaguar Aluminum-Bodied Concept
10nug.jag.583.jpg

No engine or transmission details for the Advanced Lightweight Coupe were given other than to say it has a V-8 engine. The production XK8 and XKR will have slightly larger V-8 engines, one naturally aspirated and one supercharged, about 300 and 400 horsepower, respectively.

Suzuki Concept-X
583suzuki.jpg

Because the midsize S.U.V. that Suzuki eventually decides to build will have to compete with similar vehicles in its class, like the Honda Passport, expect the price to be somewhere in the $25,000 to

$30,000 range. Production on a Suzuki midsize S.U.V. will begin next year.

Kia KCD Mesa Concept
11nug.mesa.583.jpg

Usually jaundiced media observers grudgingly conceded Mesa was one of the Motown show's greatest hits. The Mesa looks like a pace car for the Military Industrial Complex. More handsome and utilitarian than a Hummer, but just as martial in its own way. "Yes, it has military and commercial design cues," said Kia's new design chief in the United States, Tom Kearns, a former Cadillac stylist. "And it's very buildable."

BMW 5-Series Station Wagon
11nug.bmw.583.jpg

New, lighter and more powerful 2.5-liter and 3.0-liter engines, with 218 and 258 horsepower, respectively, will appear in sedan and wagon models. The 5 Series is the only luxury car in its class to offer 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions.

GMC Graphyte S.U.V. Concept
10graph.jpg

A 5.3-liter gasoline V-8 engine with a fuel-saving system that shuts off half the engineÂ’s cylinders as the combustion portion of a two-stage hybrid system that replaces the automatic transmission. It

can use engine power, electric power or both.

Chrysler Firepower Concept (TimNote: BEST NAME EVER)
09nug3.1.583.jpg

If and when it does come to market, chances are that it would go head to head with vehicles like the Porsche 911, BMW 6 Series and Mercedes-Benz CL. But the Firepower will not be called that after the Detroit show –Chrysler does not own rights to the name and would have to find another if the car comes to market. If it’s a Chrysler, it had better have a Hemi. The Firepower doesn’t disappoint with a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 that Chrysler said will propel the car from 0-60 mph in less than 4.5seconds.

Jeep Gladiator Concept (TimNote: Where's my Jeep Rescue, dammit?)
09nug.jeep.583.jpg

For a concept car, the Gladiator does not seem that far out. It is certainly more plausible than the Jeep Hurricane, the monster-truck-meets-dune-buggy design study Jeep also unveiled on Sunday. The Gladiator borrows heavily from the Wrangler design. The Gladiator would be powered by 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel with a 6-speed manual transmission - a truck for the true motorhead.

Lexus LF-A Concept
09lexuslfa.583.jpg

“This car makes you feel younger and richer just looking at it,” said Jim Press, executive vice president of Toyota’s American sales division. :lol

Ford Fairlane Concept
fair.583.jpg

Ford has aspirations for a high-priced S.U.V., especially one that could be built at a competitive cost on an all-wheel-drive version of architecture it already uses for Volvo, Mazda, Mercury, and other Ford car and truck products). But the Fairlane would most likely be a Land Rover competitor, not a complement to the line.

Dodge Charger
10nug.charger.583.jpg

The worst-kept secret of the 2005 Detroit auto show is finally revealed, and despite all the whining from Charger coupe traditionalists, this new sedan looks like another winner for the company. Not only does it go fast in a straight line, but it handles and stops, too (not core attributes of Chargers past), with multilink front and rear suspension, stability and traction control, and ABS brakes. Although it comes standard with a 3.5-liter V-6, everyone is talking, of course, about the 5.7-liter Hemi with 340 horsepower and 390 pounds-feet of torque. Performance nuts will love the sub-six-second 0 to 60's.

Lincoln Mark LT
mercury_marklt_x1.jpg

A 5.4-liter 300-horsepower V-8. Rear-wheel or all-wheel drive is available. The base price will ring in at a whisker less than $40,000 when the truck goes on sale in early this year.

2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
09merc.583.jpg

It’s hard to think of a more maligned S.U.V., or a bigger sales success. Critics bashed the original M-Class when it was introduced as little more than a milquetoast minivan with an upright windshield – and wimpy off-road capability. But with new drivetrains, new four-wheel-drive systems, much more room and bolder styling, Mercedes is no longer merely auditing the S.U.V. course. Two new power plants give the M-Class the latest engine technology: a 250-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 for the ML350 and a 302-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 for the ML500. But wait! There's more: The world's first SEVEN-speed automatic transmission boosts mileage.

General MotorsÂ’ Sequel Concept
09nug1.583.jpg

Sequel uses the 11-inch-thick “skateboard” chassis from two previous fuel-cell-powered concept vehicles – now you know why they call it the Sequel – to house the tanks of compressed hydrogen that feed the fuel cells. Three electric motors, two front and one rear, move the Sequel, a vehicle that is about the same size as a Cadillac SRX sport wagon. G.M. claims a 0-60 time of less than 10 seconds, and a range of 300 miles on its fuel load of eight kilograms of hydrogen. G.M. said that the company will work to have a drivable version later this year; mass production would not come before 2010. No price for a production version was offered.

Acura RD-X Concept
09acura_slide05.jpg

09acura_slide03.jpg

A petit version of the MDX, this RD-X is sleeker and less garish than a concept Acura introduced in Detroit two years ago. Acura is also being mum on the price. But if the RD-X is going to sell for less than the MDX, it ought to have a sticker of less than $37,000.

Oh yeah, Bob Lutz (GM Chairman) has a weblog. Power to the people, man.

Posted these earlier in a seperate Corvette thread, and I figure they deserve a repost...fear the ALMS Corvette C6-R.

I don't know how they do things in Toronto, but down here in the south, we try not to shove anything that looks like that up our Rancho Cucamongas.

That's a E60 M5. It has 500hp.

Yeah...down in the south you just shove it in your mouth. :lol

Sorry to bump this thread, I wasn't able to make it to the show so I'm catching up on all the news now.

Does Jaguar share the same R and D team as Aston Martin?
16vx.jpg

looks very similar to me to the older model DB7s

Did anyone actually make it? Any impressions?

Except the Astin Martin actually looks good!!

DB9 is the most beautiful car ever designed, engineered and sold... (replacing the DB5)
