Devil Kings >>>> DW

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
Seriously. Not trying to start a fight with the hardcore DW beu fans (of which I would include myself until a recent burnout), but have you tried this game? If this is copying or a homage to the series it's one of the better I've tried recently.

Cooler fighting? Yes. Better or at least more interesting art in enemies, environments and heroes? Yes. Conquest modes standard? Yes.

Obviously it follows the KOEI pattern but it destroys it in freshness. Plus it has a lot of wacky Jappy in a good way. You're still killing hundreds with one button, but your combat move alternatives are far better than DW. The animations destroy it, with true variety among every hero. The treasures are great, still have horses, etc. The cut scenes with the CG and anime shorts are at least funny and entertaining in a way that DW hasn't been in ages.

I don't get it. I wrote this off based on some reviews and just got my rental today. I honestly wouldn't understand a media writer who gave this lower marks than DW5. It has the same level of challenge, better graphics in many ways because it's use of fog is less obvious without the same amount of jaggies, etc. There are pop in enemies, but usually the announcer is screaming "AMBUSH!" or some other goofy thing to explain it. It's absolutely no worse than DW and frankly a lot better because the combat is more interesting.

Have you guys tried this??? Because I think it sold like crap and I'd take a sequel to this over DW any day of the week at this point.

Devil Kings >>>>>>> DW.

Is it bloody? :o

I agree, actually. Better game than DW. Still, its a mere improvement in more aesthetic areas. The whole DW/DK concept needs a real overhaul.

The concept needs an overhaul but it's more than a mere improvement aesthetically. You're fighting in more varied, more interesting environments with more colorful better animated characters. With better effects and less slow down. It's a feast for the eyes compared to DW.

I'm just gonna pretend I didn't see this travesty of a thread.

The power of christ compels you! RENOUNCE SATAN!

don't be all *nintendo about this, dc. this game is better.

*nintendo - stuck in a conservatism based on past habituation rather than GOODNESS content.

DW5 is 60 FPS locked.

Musashi has gone off the deep end methinks! :D

I'd love to rent this game but no one has it. I wouldn't take much stock in the reviews though. Because they keep on comparing the game to DW5 and have innacuracies about DW5 in their comparisons.

haha. well, my only point was to make a few DW fans try it as I ended up doing, barely. It's an excellent take on the genre. It's collected undo scorn from reviewers who saw only what they were sick of (DW).

You musta missed my rant about it back when it released. I'm too tired to re-argue against it, but I found it a rather sad and retrograde substitute for my beloved Dynasty Warriors 5.

A couple reviews did end up being pretty positive, some calling out DW5 much as you are doing. (Milkman at 1up was it?)

I didn't much care for it myself, but how bout that Puff voice! ;)

Hence, aesthetics?

can you adjust the settings so that they don't fuck history up the ass?

um, I'm not sure what your complaint is here. That it's not based on history? That it's not as "historically accurate" as DW? How could that be a problem? Or maybe you're saying that DW has anal sex with history. I'm not sure.

I read a funny article in context of this game being made...it's here for one reason only...to recoup the money that would be lost on Killer 7. :lol

You know...I simply misread you as I was tired and ranting. Sorry.

But I heard DK has Empires elements in it.... I;ve had it for the last week just haven't found time to fire it up....

I imagine the only 'Empires' influence is in the Risk-style stage selection map in DK. The campaign involves choosing your path to conquering the nation instead of following a very focused and ultimately linear story thread in DW5. Granted I don't recall resource management or other such factors coming into play either, just a big map asking what neighbor you want to attack next, but I wait to be corrected.

I'm not really a fan of the whole one man vs. legion army type of thing, but a long ass time ago when I first played Sengoku Basara I made note of it then that it (imo) was much better than Dynasty Warriors.

Both games are at 60 fps. I mean, this is Capcom here--if they can make their DMC games 60 fps locked then this low poly fogged up 'what some call an action game' to be at that same frame-rate shouldn't be all that hard.

However Devil King's combat is much better than DW. It actually incorperates both a manual and automatic (aka dial a combo) combat systems. You can press R1+Triangle or R1+Square to perform a free-form special attack that can be chained in and out of any stock (square-based) combo chain. Think sub-sub-sub DMC. Given there are special attacks in DW, but it just doesn't seem as 'twitch' based-responsive as DK.

While it also has dial-a-combos that you can intervene between the square attacks by pressing Triangle. The later your press Triangle in the square combo chain, the different the attack order. Think sub-sub-sub NG.

However I did get bored of it really quickly, but only because I'm not a fan of the game type. But I did 'enjoy' it --quote on quote-- moreso than DW5.

Let's shift the thread to DW5:XL, which gets released in a few days.
Good idea. I'm looking forward to the freeform modes and the original/more obscure scenarios. I'm definitely hoping the JP language track makes it in, too.

Hopefully they'll announce DW5 Empires in a month or two.

It better be close to a month than two...grrrrr.

Musashi's testimony compels me to try Devil Kings....
