A Capcom insider who appears to be trusted by Resident Evil-insider Dusk Golem has spilled the beans on what's been happening at the Japanese developer. The biggest news is that a remake of the original Devil May Cry is in development, which will be sure to please fans of the long-running series. Here's what was leaked:

  • Devil May Cry 1 remake is in development

All these years of waiting after the awesome Devil May Cry 5, and we get only a remake of 1 ?

This sucks man. Also, Nero was awesome :/

I don't like this rumor :/

I don't really want that... like, at all. I mean, Devil May Cry 1 is cool as hell, but I just want something new. I actually really appreciate how different DMC1 is from the rest of the series.

This game deserves a second chance.

The real question for any remake of Devil May Cry is if Capcom could write an arrangement of Ultra Violet that's more metal than the original.

I just checked out some different versions - the direct arrangement for Project X Zone 2 and the heavily inspired Bianco for DMC4. The former features some wack( y ) EDM and crunches the guitar riffs. The latter isn't nearly as ambitious with its instrumentation as the original; the struggle between the instruments is part of what makes Ultra Violet so damn good.

I really hope Kamiya is in charge of this. Keep most of it the same but remove the god awful rail shooter segment in the Mundus fight. The atmosphere and music should be largely maintained and keep the RE-style gameplay, no style switching and anything influenced by the series post DMC 3.

This is one of my favourite games ever and it needs to be done right.

DMC 1 wears its Resident Evil origins proudly on its sleeve. Post DMC 3 the series became its own thing but I liked the mixed gothic-anime-action vibes of the 1st and 3rd games. Couldn't care for games after that.

Personally I'm not seeing it. It wouldn't be my first choice for a remake.
Are they just going to remake everything except Dino Crisis?!?!?
I think I remember them saying they don't want two franchises with dinosaurs in at once. Just don't look too closely at Dead Rising.

Dino Crisis in the style of RE2R has so much potential, and because that franchise didn't go further than it did it wouldn't be a huge commitment. Either remake 1 and 2 and leave it, or if they do well then keep going because you've revived another IP.

Agreed, it would be a mistake to not have Kamiya involved now that he's essentially back with Capcom, after Okami 2 they need him back directing DMC, I always wanted to see how he would have handled the franchise instead of Itsuno.

Out of all the games and series they can remake, this is the one I don't care about the most.

I mean, FFS, if not Dino Crisis, why not Lost Planet? Just imagine what they can do with Lost Planet right now, expand it and make it better.

With a lot of changes. It's very annoying the game stopping to make a cutscene, a recap, and playing for like a minute to do all this again. Also the ending being a DLC?! Worse Capcom era

I don't mind they keep episodic anime TV show like structure but I think we need much deeper combat system.

Itsuno has done a great job with the series but honestly DMC has strayed too far from its gothic origins. 4 and 5 were great from a gameplay POV but those art designs and atmosphere were dull as dishwater. And also Nero has the charisma of a plank board.

I would love those. DMC had one of the best ideas but it has not aged well
None of DMC 1's flaws (terrible camera, rail shooter segment, platforming) has anything to do with aging badly, it was always bad. Hell, even phantombabies (the original dmc fan community website) criticised these same things on its original release.

Okami 2 certainly is one I can't wait for. It could revitalise the old school 3D zelda formula that has now been largely abandoned by its namesake (I hope).

I think this is the gaming generation that has had more remakes than at any other time, or is it the gaming decade we are living in?

I'd like they make the castle much bigger and turn it into a metroidvania. With FIX CAMERAS, PLEASE. They add a lot to the horror claustrophobic atmosphere of DMC1, still unmatched.

Please keep fixed camera if you really have to remake it
Lol.
Lmao, even.

It's not gonna happen and you know it. Do you think modern gamers can handle slightly different perspectives or control schemes?

It's gonna use the same standardized template they are employing for all their remakes. Making everything as generic and familiar as possible to satisfy the masses.
