Dexter 2021 Teaser

I'm really looking forward to this new season. The last series finale left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth because he seemed to abandon his son, although I do understand his thought process that everyone around him is at risk. Just wasn't sure his solution was any better. Anyway, really looking forward to how that is addresses, and how it makes the audience feel about him once we know.

It went downhill from season 5. I don't see how this could be good.
Because Clyde Phillips, who was showrunner on seasons 1-4, is running the show! You can blame Scott Buck for seasons 6-8. That's sort of what he does. Fucks shit up.

I was hoping they would simply pretend seasons 5-8 didn't happen, but it looks like he's in a log cabin so... it seems like they're continuing from the awful 'drive a boat into a hurricane but somehow survive while abandoning his child to some woman he just met to become a lumberjack' ending.

I wonder if they'll even acknowledge that he has a son since he's probably chillin with Yvonne Strahovski somewhere lol

Excited for this. Rewatched the whole series last year into this year to have it fresh in mind.

The quality did dip noticeably beginning with season 5, but I still mostly enjoyed it aside from the terrible final season. Wonder what the original showrunner has in mind about where to go from there.

Season 1-4 were binge central.
Season 5 was nice, but it was in decline.

From the other seasons I remember some religion freak, and dexter being in love with his sister or something.. I dunno..

Will give the reboot a chance.

No Doakes, no Deb, not really Dexter imo.

Yes, that does discount a lot of the series, but it started going downhill in S3.
Deb was annoying so no real loss there.
Doakes ran his course anything more would have felt repetitive. It’s a shame they killed his brother Brian though, the books didn’t.

I read the first Double Dexter book then decided to watch the show, which happened to be the final season. Boy, that sucked. So I'm looking forward to it. After that final season I didn't have the heart to go back and watch the seasons I missed. I figured why bother if that's how it all ends. Fucking Scott Buck.

Deb was Dexter's ground - he had Rita and her/their kids, but she was always the one that kept him from falling completely beyond the code. That was apparent from the first episode - "If I could feel anything, it would be for Deb".

Doakes was a foil to Dexter on the side of the law - losing him just made Dexter (the show) rely on monster-of-the-season villains and people just figuring out what he was accidentally. A character like Dexter needs a Doakes, like Light needed a L.

It was really downhill after season 2, but 4 was a bit of a reprieve. But man did it get bad after that.

I can't possibly be excited for this. It's like getting excited for a Konami game at this point.

The books really went downhill pretty quick too. They started out like good-bad books, cheesy and pulpy but compelling and just got stupid and weird by like the third one .

I will sign up. There is nothing about Seasin 1 and 2 that can't be modernized and redone. I just want ham on the skillet, a warm climate, and comfy dex getting out of a jam.

I recently rewatched the entire series and it's shocking how bad seasons 6 and 8 were. I'm all in for the old showrunner returning and making this right.

And please - NO QUINN in the reboot. Hopefully he died / left the force / overdosed between seasons 8 and 9.

Cant wait, loved the show...but that original ending was some low budget, nonsensical BS ever. They had a chance to end the show on a high note like Breaking Bad and instead made the most ridiculous ending that made no sense whatsoever.

Wait, I thought in the original news story months ago said he would be returning to Miami?

This teaser implies otherwise.

There was a specific moment in dexter where I knew the show was broken beyond repair and that was when he was driving down the highway and shot a gun out the window. Then I was like ok this is dumb.

But still hoping this is good.

On a side note, did anyone ever stop and think about the specific formula that makes so many shows work? The “guy does something and gets himself into a jam and needs to find a way to work himself out of it” formula. The Shield, Breaking Bad, Dexter, and a bunch of others all share that general formula. For whatever reason, it works. I guess it’s easier to write tense episodes when someone’s trying to work out of a jam.

But it also makes me appreciate Game of Thrones so much more, which didn’t rely on any specific formula and just had great lore, writing, and acting(until the final seasons).

Maybe its just the first episode of Dexter hiding somewhere before going back to Miami

He really wouldn't have a reason to go back to Miami tbh. Deb is gone, Harrison is in Argentina with Hannah and Rita's kids live in Orlando. Killing off someone from the force would be a cheap reason to bring him back and Dexter wasn't the type of person to care about someone who's not family.

I wonder if they‘ll use the same concept from the first show, or if there‘s gonna be some new ‚hook‘. Will Dexter still be with law enforcement? Or will he have some different position, but one which still gives him access to information about other criminals? Maybe he’ll be a journalist or something.

For continuity or believability’s sake I don’t think he could go back to Miami. I mean, wasn’t he a wanted man by the end of it, that’s why he had to flee. I don’t think they could write their way out of that in any way that wouldn’t be eye roll worthy.

But to me part of the fun part of Dexter was him working as a blood spatter analyst. Him just being a regular civilian killing bad guys might not be as fun.

Don't forget my favorite part where he drove his beloved sister's corpse out to the middle of the water and dumped her with all the pieces of shit he offed throughout the series. Makes total sense as a final resting place for someone you care about that much.

I’m hoping it’s about his son Harrison tracking him down. He’s probably just as messed up so Dexter can teach him the code.

The kid would be 12 this year, probably still too young for that. It could happen if Hannah returned as well after finding trace of Dexter.

I think it'll be best if they start with a fresh cast with a chance to bring back someone in later episodes to arrest/find Dexter.
