DF doubles down on they were right about the switch 2 specs.

Imo they nailed it. it's a base PS4 with dlss and SSD. You can see in rich's face just wanting to say it was a damn ps4 but he doesn't wanna lose views, understandable.

everything they ever said about the Switch 2 was basically correct. whenever there was a grey area they made clear that there is one, and whenever they compared it to other hardware they put it into perspective how it compares.

As far as I remember it was kopite7kimi that first revealed the Switch 2 would use the Tegra 2 SoC.
DF just took that info and made a few videos about his information.

Somehow I came into this thread thinking "What the hell did Double Fine say about the Switch 2?"

They were mainly talking GPU and CPU. ps4 came out when 4k did not exist so it never got a output to display 4k.
Right, I'll gladly accept that the specs are similar with the caveat that DLSS is a gamechanger and the base PS4 can only do 1080p(I think).

I remember the base PS4. It was great but the PS4 Pro was a gamechanger on my LG OLED set. I could never go back to base PS4 but Switch 2 is actually great docked.

dlss was game changed for cyberpunk imo vas base ps4 . every other port with dlss lite not really. sometimes dlss will push switch 2 into pro level but its been very few games so far.

It was a retarded opinion then, and it's still one now. The Jaguar architecture of the PS4 was shit, Ampere is generations ahead.
It really doesn't matter because we are in diminishing returns. PS5 is several times more powerful then ps4 but the jump is not that big graphically, no where near ps3 vs ps4. with switch 2 the jump is not big enough to give you a a much better experience in most games.

Yeah, but a PS4 now costs 100 bucks, not 500
Portability always added hefty tax compared to stationary consoles for same specs, hell even now if u get pc vs lappy with same specs(not names, actual performance) u likely gotta forkup at least double(and obviously u cant match anything above mid-end).

Switch 2 is essentially a PS4-level device built on a modern architecture, and in that sense DF's assessment is accurate.
People can cherry-pick screenshots all day, but the raw numbers don't lie.
My main issue with Nintendo's hardware approach is that they tend to grab whatever off-the-shelf tech is available and drop it into their system with minimal ambition.

DLSS alone it's that good, that just compare Cyberpunk even on PS4 Pro vs Switch 2...

Maybe in mere raw power Switch 2 it's on PS4 realm, but tech wise it's way beyond...

It's more than a PS4 with DLSS.
It also has a better CPU. It has full support for DX12_2. Can do a bit of RT. Has delta color compression. Shader Model 6.8.

Still have some 'ARM' limitations, not to mention Jaguar have more cores. Most of the lift are from the GPU.

Still for me a PS4 with DLSS, maybe a better PS4, but still the release games match each some and others.

The bottom line is, there are games running as same as PS4, some games running better than PS4 and some games running worse than PS4. The rest is poison for fanboys.

The A78 on the Switch 2 also has 8 cores for 8 threads. But it has a more advanced front end. And it has 4MB of L3 cache.

that this is even in question is telling

nintendo nailed it with Switch2... many gamers can't even tell the difference between it and PS5

it's close enough in visual fidelity that there are fanboys making threads to argue about it

brilliant

Numbers pushed back by the energy consumption. As I said, there are games running better on NS2 than PS4, but also games running as same or worse on NS2.

The CPU is still more powerful.
Could have other limitations, or just be a worse port.

Always annoying when they (or anyone) talks about Switch 2 and says don't compare it to modern consoles, yet all they do is compare it to series S or a gen and half old system.

The Switch isn't some underdog from a small company. It costs a hellva lot to buy into, games are priced real high, their control over buying things is so tightly locked and exploited. You pay that much for a weak system and then just smile that "wow, I didnt imagine they'd port this game" in its low res, low frame rate, missing features way.

The PS4 was being developed in about 2008. Don't try and say "its great for a handheld" then cherry pick what you want to compare it too and lower your standards of how a game should play and look for an over priced device. Nintendo and the Switch are not punching up.
