Because people are using AI. A lot. Often.

So you can keep being mad and yelling at Microsoft, meanwhile, ai use and adoption among the masses is higher than it's ever been.

If there wasn't demand, they wouldn't do it.

If it was being put to good use then most wouldn't have an issue, but a gigantic amount of AI is being spent on generative poor quality stuff like memes and such.

If it was pushed that it's being used to cure diseases, cut down medication costs, actually benefit society in some way, there would not be as much push back. Instead the lowest of the low is being done with it, hey sure these data centers are burning through our resources and destroying the hardware market but hey, you can ask Grok to undress people on Twitter.

The irony of using "slop" every sentence while complaining AI is making people dumber.
Now, I do hope reason and common sense win in the end and MS is buried under a big pile of irrelevancy and ridicule. This is something Linux should enable I hope, but we will see. Who wants a nightmare of not owning hardware and software while also being spied on while you're at it.
