Diablo 2 Resurrected

After a long time I returned my old flame D2 (Resurrected version) again in my free time. I don't do high level play on Hell or even Nightmare. I play very casually and finish the game with every class once and sometimes pursue set items.

Maaan. With the graphical enhancements I really love D2R all over again. Yes I'm biased because of my childhood/teenage years but this is what Diablo game for me. The atmosphere, the music, the NPC's, the items, the gameplay. All of them so good so satisfying that it never gets old for me. In those years Blizzard was really Blizzard and they used classic Diablo font type in the game to add to the atmosphere not just some cheap looking Arial bullshit at all. Also the graphical enhancements are so sweet spot that it even furthers D2 experience to the roof. The specieal items have the exact same looking now on chararacters and they seem superb. The dark tone, the hit satisfaction. Just couldn't get enough of this game.

I'm still surprised that current Blizzard didn't corrupt or botched up Resurrected version. How in the hell did they managed that, I have no idea. Maybe some female armors/cloths and faces or angel wings can be criticized but I don't think of them too much.

So yeah. Diablo 2 Resurrection is like safe and known haven for me when I crave ARPG. It will never get old for me. I may seem to get seperated from it for sometime but I will eventually return to it every now and then.

I like how you're always working towards something rather than straight up leveling for higher gear score. It's why the game will always be better than most ARPGs.

I'm surprised how smooth Diablo 2 Resurrected runs too; no lag, no weird bugs, and the updated graphics actually make those old zones feel fresh without losing the classic vibe. Honestly, I can see myself losing weeks to this again.

Spent few k hours in d2r, so cant say bad thing about this game except it has relatively poor endgame vs current day new hack&slash games but guess what- thats were mods come in- strongly recommend bt diablo and remodded if u wanna have skills/classes/items/runewords rework and tons of new and very demanding endgame :)

Putting 4 but not 2 on Steam is the biggest fuck you from Blizzard

Fuck those guys.
Yeah, I don't understand that logic. Why don't they put StarCraft Remastered, StarCraft 2, Diablo II Resurrected (and the original) and Diablo 1 on Steam? Even for WoW I can't really understand. They can still require people to use Battle.net, if they really want to hold on to that.

I just can't get in to it. Love Diablo 3 but never played this back in the day. Got it on PS5 and just can't jam with it. Any tips would be welcomed.

I already have SC Remastered, SC2, D2R on Battle.net but i don't understand also why it's not on Steam.

They probably don't want to pay 30% of the price of those games to Valve. Putting Diablo 4 was a smart move since they need to compete with POE2 and TQ2, but Starcraft Remaster or Diablo II really don't need to compete, they already have their audience imo.

A remaster of Diablo 1 would be the shit tho, hope they get to that someday.

Good point about the 30%. But at this point, wouldn't the additional visibility they'd get from their shit being on Steam be worth the 30%?

But I guess some MBA inside ActiBlizz already asked that question and calculated that it isn't worth it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that up to Microsoft? Does Blizzard have autonomy as far as where their games are available to be purchased?
I think.. Diablo 2, the updated version, was out before the acquisition

And even if not, why 4 over 2? Or dare I say it.. 3 :messenger_unamused:

2 would sell so much better.

Didn't they also censor some stuff? Like the bloody corpses in the second map's dungeons? And their reasoning was they were women?

There doesn't seem to be much rhyme and reason as to how Microsoft is handling the Activision deal as far as I can tell. Seems they acquired them to just sleep on it, as though Duty was the only prize.

I haven't played D2 in literally 10+ years. Any recommended mods? I don't need super high endgame or anything. Mainly QoL stuff.

There is no way I will spend hundreds of hours in the game as too many other games are there to play, but wouldn't mind messing around with some enhancements.

You're a loon! Lock yourself in a room and play the game until it clicks.
Yeah I need to give it another proper shot. I've started characters and played for about 5 hours x 3.

I hear that it's so good but maybe I'm just a D3 fake Diablo fan 😂. Feels not as fun as D3 to me even though aesthetically it looks so much better.

What about the game do you think isn't clicking with you? It is for sure a different experience than the later entries in the series, as it starts off with a high difficulty curve and is much slower.

It's obtuse and archaic compared to modern ARPGs. You need to look up builds and learn how to craft runewords, then invest time learning how to play it right. You can't dump skill points wherever. Resistances matter. Gear matters too but it's not the braindead "gearscore number go up!" kinda thing.

Unless you're playing with someone who knows what they're doing you're probably going to have a bad time. You don't have the nostalgia we do and we learned how to ride without training wheels decades ago.

All I want is the proper character models back. The new designs are downright ugly for most of them, especially Amazon and Assassin.

You guys know that the original D2 devs are making a new ARPG game?
Moon Beast Production. I am very excited for it.

Haven't heard of it, thank you. First look: wow, the highlighting/outline around objects and enemies is disgusting :messenger_grinning_sweat:
But that's first impression... Need to check info about what they are trying to do with the game. Thanks again

Edit: oh and on topic. D2 is still in my top 10 of all time. The remaster is really nice, having the game run in the background while giving it a fresh look with some qol features.
Unfortunately its gameplay is a bit dated to me nowadays. Had hope for D4 after the first looks and teases. But that morphed into some mmo light grindfest, so I was out after I finished one run with Barb. Shockingly bad game. D2 is still better compared to it. Pure nostalgia for me

i've got fucked by similar stories before... Stormgate being the most recent one. :'/

D3 movement, roll mechanic and fluidity of combat is plain better.

D2 atmosphere, leveling and overall "feels" are better.

So I've decided to play a little after reading this topic (it's been almost two years that I don't play it), and look what just dropped. lol

First time a unique sacred armor drops after 20 years playing this game. Lol
(Ended up being a Templars Might 🥲)

No other ARPG hits like this btw. Every character is a unique journey.

it's still better than path of exile 2 and sorry if that upsets people.

In some aspects I agree while in others PoE2 goes absolutely the right way (passive tree for example, the way skills work and the amount of possible skill combinations)
Atmosphere, music, general style...yeah, Diablo 2 wins hands down

I remember getting Diablo my freshman year in college and being hooked. I was so damned excited for the sequel, bought it day one, and fell off around Act III. I tried again ten or so year later and suffered the same fate. And I tried again with Resurrected, but barely made it to Act II. It's one of my Moby Dicks of gaming, I guess.

Have you found the reason why it doesn't click or is something bothering you or missing?
