Diablo 2 Resurrected

I like it quite a bit - but don't like that there's no TCP/IP or LAN play. Otherwise.. mostly good. First two Diablo games are still the only Diablo games for me.

I played a lot of D2 way back. So good. Local lan with buds frequently.

Thought about getting it for Switch and Switch 2 now as I saw sales come and go but ...probably would play it for a day to relive and not touch again.

Have you found the reason why it doesn't click or is something bothering you or missing?

For the original release, probably the runtime wearing on me. For Resurrected, I think it's a matter of it feeling a bit dated after how fluid D3 (yeah, I know that game has a ton of issues) moves.

I just can't get in to it. Love Diablo 3 but never played this back in the day. Got it on PS5 and just can't jam with it. Any tips would be welcomed.
Old school and/or been there, done are probably the causes.

I know a reason I don't play the new Diablo games is ...I feel like I played them already.

And I know some of today's gamers don't like some of the old school found in old games. Stuff that seems natural to anyone who played games back then.

Same here for the movement part. I put a couple dozen hours into Resurrected, finished normal with Barb (up to lvl55 I believe), played all other classes a fair bit... But then just stopped. For me it just feels too dated to keep playing... It's a shame since the game itself, it's atmosphere, progression etc is very satisfying. Only other downside since playing other arpg's over the years is the limited amount of skills and interactions.

The game translated so well to controller. Inventory navigation obviously isn't as seamless as using a mouse, but the general gameplay movement works great with sticks, as do the quick item/magic shortcuts on the shoulder and face buttons.

I tried to play this but the game was dead. I was pretty much playing solo the whole time. Granted I wasnt playing the expansion. Maybe there will be a bigger community once I reach act 4 hell difficulty at the endgame. Alot of the fun for me in diablo 2 was the economy and trading items with people.

It was a mate of mine that introduced me to this Diablo 2, already 25 years ago. At first I didn't think much of it, mostly due to the graphics.
But the more I played it, the more it got a grip on me. Such an amazing game. The lore, the music, the gameplay, the classes.

Can't say I have ever played Diablo online. The D2 single player is fantastic solo.

The Switch version is awful. Terrible lighting and 30fps lock.

I know D3 got a lot of hate. But they really made it something special. As you said the end game grind is extremely fluid and satisfying, especially in groups farming. I think that might be the best game play of all the Diablos to be honest. Fluid is the perfect word. D3 unfairly gets forgotten like the middle child.

I remember one review of D2R talking about how it really made them appreciate D3 and I had to agree. It's a better game in some ways.

Ok. Yeah. Multiplayer in Diablo 2 annoyed the hell out of me. You always got someone speedrunning the game.

I still think D3 is the best playing ARPG with a controller and while I have a ton of fondness for the original, it's tough to go back to. Of all the Diablo games, it's the one I'd go back to as I didn't much care for D4 (on the bright side, I can fully divorce myself from the rotting corpse of Blizzard).

I dont think I ever went from loving one game this much to pretty much having a 180° with its successor.

I honestly don't get Diablo III. Went 2-player through the campaign on ps3 and then later 1-player through the campaign with expansion on ps4 to see if I missed something trying out another class. I've seen people saying the game begins with the stuff you can do after finishing it once. But after 30 hours going through some of the most boring game I ever played the game completely lost me.

Disliked the story and atmosphere of D3. Game constantly bombarding me with lore like I care. Downgrade in graphic style. Huge downgrade regarding music.
The worst for me was the gameplay loop. I kept ramping up the difficulty every 2-3 hours, but it never felt right. Game also constantly throws every 1-2 minutes 'better' gear at you where you just look at green arrows and nothing else before changing equipment. D2 did have a bit of a learning curve in the beginning. But relatively early I had an idea what items were worth keeping. Sometimes you'd find boots that would carry you through a whole difficulty. In D3 you would find better headgear and then 2 minutes later you would find headgear thats apparently better than the last one and so on. There was never an adrenaline rush because I would never even know what stats to look out for. Its just looking for green arrows and the game does the rest for me.

In D2 it was always fun trying out new classes. And even within those classes you could try out different builds (there was also a lot of unused potential in D2 imo). In D3 those two classes I tried werent fun. Its just spamming your spells over and over and waiting for the cooldowns to finish, everything dies quick (or sometimes takes forever to die while you just stand there for 3 minutes holding one button).

I was like 16 when it came out and remember having a few friends that were obsessed with it. This is one of those games that I completely missed out on back in the day. So I bought the remaster last year and didn't really put much time in it. Been meaning to get back into it and really digging in.

The first Diablo I played a lot though when it released.

What sucks about the console version is that it requires an online subscription.

Absolutely my experience, too, wholeheartedly agree with your post.
Path of Exile did what I wanted from D3 plus more. And Path of Exile 2 is doing what I wanted from D4, so everything is good for me personally. I don't trust Blizzard anymore to put out a great Diablo game.
It's a shame, but on the other hand other teams stepped up and created different, difficult and complex systems that keep me entertained. I dislike the crafting in PoE(1&2) but I just ignore it mostly and am fine. I'm not a endgame lvl100 grinder, I just level new characters throughout different leagues over the years. Don't care for multiplayer.
Looking forward to Titan Quest 2 and I'm sure there will be a time when I level a new char in Diablo 2 Resurrected, at least through normal :messenger_sunglasses:
