I'm so fed up with this stupid lag-spike bullshit that I created a video to show you all what i'm experiencing, and wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.

(Please ignore the shitty quality of the video, the ugly ass glare, and whatever else video artifacts are present. Oh and my room's terrible lighting.)

What happens is that the game runs smooth as butter, and then randomly diarrhea's everywhere and starts lag-spiking like a m'fucker.

It's so goddamn annoying and every single one of my deaths in the game so far have been caused by this shit. I must have died eleventy billion times and counting, and there's no signs that it's going to stop.

Maybe it's just my laptop. *sigh*

This was a fairly common problem in Diablo II...sorry to say it is probably just your laptop. It's happened to me three or four times but nowhere near that bad. It has something to do with needing to load up a bunch of different animations for the first time in a play session on the fly.

I really wish that the blacksmith could take the mats from the stash so I wouldn't have to run back and forth everytime. A bit like they are doing in SWTOR.

Playing monk here. If I get a weapons with 20 dps and +5 strengh, it's not better than a 20 dps + 5 dexterity weapons right ? Because monk get both strengh and dodge on dexterity ?

Monk is dex based and does not get damage from strength. Armor from strength, resist from int, dodge and damage from dex.

This was a fairly common problem in Diablo II...sorry to say it is probably just your laptop. It's happened to me three or four times but nowhere near that bad. It has something to do with needing to load up a bunch of different animations for the first time in a play session on the fly.

Diablo never bothered me, in fact if it weren't for this thread I would have never known that Diablo III is coming out.
Today I got a guest pass from a generous member.

For lack of knowledge I choose a monk thought well, I just want to hop in and see what the fuzz is all about, played for 2h and actually have to force myself to quit the game.
That game is really cool.

With Diablo III that would make it 3 games in 2 weeks, I can't actually buy 3 games in 2 weeks, can I GAF?

Adding more RAM will probably help a great deal, and that's usually pretty easy to add in a laptop.

Yeah mine is 250-300, and I have a fast FIOS connection, so that's just the norm right now.

How are you checking the ping?

And how do you check your framerate without an external program? I tried /framerate and /fps with no luck

I'm probably overselling my expertise here, that's just what worked for me when that happened to me with Diablo II. 4GB probably is enough, yeah.

Yes, my latency is 340 - 380ish. My internet is also not top-tier but it should be good enough for ~100 :x

I'm in and playing AOK but good gravy the latency is atrocious for a "single player" game. Seems to be on par with playing online with a bunch of people on D2, which makes sense, but is really icky playing alone.

Check your power settings. Make sure windows isn't cranking down the CPU to 5% or so when it thinks you're being idle while plugged in (easiest way is to change the power presets to performance instead of balanced when plugged in). If that doesn't help, go into the BIOS and make sure it's not overruling windows on power management stuff.
