Did anyone Get Viewtiful Joe Battle Carnival?

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
The game came out in Japan a few days ago, but I haven't seen anything about it here. No one cares? :)

Mine's on it's way, I'll post impressions of it when it arrives. Especially multiplayer.

Please do. :) I'm very interested in the game, although I doubt I'd be playing it multiplayer.

If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask.

I don't really feel like writing up impressions because I am too busy with work for other stuff.

Is it worth buying if I'm likely only going to be playing single player? How are the controls? Just like the other VJ games?

It plays pretty well for what it is, and there is tons of alternate costumes/stages to unlock. Each stage has different goals that must be acheived to keep going. Story is typical Joe zaniness.

The controls are a bit looser than the other Joe games, but it kinda has to be that way for a party action game.

If you really like the genre, than it is worth buying. If you really like the anime, the omake are worth buying. If you really like Joe, that it is worth buying. But if you are just looking for a game for the week, im not sure if id sink full price into it.

It's really well thought out for a party game and I think if you had a group of friends to play it with the game would have some lasting value.

As a 1p experience its enjoyable but a little empty.

All right, I decided to go and buy a used Game Cube today, and picked up Viewtiful Joe Battle Carnival, Biohazard 4, PN03, and a GB Player along with it.

I feel a bit silly buying a system I have back home andl two of games I have as well, but shipping from the U.S. is expensive, and my modded Xbox arrived friday, packed nice and tight, yet still ended up busted (mod chip no longer works ;_; Need to find the right screwdriver now so I can open it up and see that it's just something that came loose, or it's over), and I'd rather not see my Cube suffer the same fate.

After I play a bit, I'll post impressions, since no one else seems to have anywhere.

Capcom loves you, Lyte. So do I. :)

EDIT: On the flipside, playing familiar games can help you practice. :D

Hey, I couldn't help it...I need my RE4 fix, and while I know I'm going to get the PS2 release, I really wanted to replay the game again now. :) PN03 was dirt cheap, so I grabbed that too. They didn't have MGS Twin Snakes though.

Holy crap I have NO IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON in this game! The action is way too chaotic to follow, especially on a 13 inch TV.

hahaha, yeah I tried playing this with two different friends.

The first one was like "Oh..my...god... I have no clue whats going on and I can't even find my character" ^^; The second one just agreed that the screen gets too clustered.

Miyuru, the game is certainly easy to pick up and play, but I'd reccomend waiting for the English version if you can't at least read Japanese. You'll be lost in the options and won't understand the story.

Speaking of which, I need to watch the Viewtiful Joe anime series so I can find out who these characters are. Captain Blue Jr.? HUH? :)

It's a lot easier to tell what's going in story mode (so far!) and in matches with just one other player, but with four players, it's just too crazy! :)

Fun game though, and definitely a much better multiplayer "fighting game" effort than Onimusha Blade Warriors was. Still need to play some more before I can really write anything.

If the PSP version focuses on your character instead of trying to show the entire screen, it will be the better version, IMO.

I would wait for the English version as well.

Lyte -- the game is heavily tied in with the anime. The Sprocket boob part in the opening movie is hilarious.

:lol Yeah, I noticed Captain Blue can't help but stare at Sprocket's legs during the intro, too.

The anime has been licensed by Geneon, so trying to watch it now is going to be difficult.

I had a blast with the last two of these games. I'm definitely going to pick it up now that I've heard that it had a good transformation to a fighter. I'm trying to perfect my collection of multiplayer titles on the cube. Just need a few more. Pikmin 2, Mario Party 5, DDR w/ Mario, and this.

I can't believe they didn't give an AI level bar. I mean this is Capcom who put handicap levels in everything since SFII.

The problem with multiplayer as it is now is that if you have CPU people in they completely destroy all the human players. It's ridiculous.

you should get your tv calibrated.

can you team up for anything, or is it all like 1 vs all? or whatever, this thread didnt seem to describe the game play much. is it like a party game or fighting or what? i think i saw what looked like a dance portion in one screenshot a while ago.

If "you should get your tv calibrated" means "you should ditch that shitty mono sound TV that only accepts composite video and buy a new TV," I am in agreement. :) But as craptacular as this TV is (it was left in the apartment I moved into and I haven't been able to get to the electronics store to buy a new one), the picture isn't the problem. VJ Battle Carnival really is THAT chaotic in mulitplayer. Single player mode has been much easier to play so far.

I still haven't played enough to write proper impressions, but it appears that the point of the game isn't to pummel your opponents silly, but rather to get a higher score than everyone else, which is done by beating up stage enemies/bosses and knocking the v-coins out of your opponent by beating them up too. In a way, the game is like the other Viewtiful Joe games with up to four players and all of the action taking place on one screen rather than an entire level. All of the characters have a pretty decent amount of attacks/special moves, and special abilities like slow and mach speed are intact. The "dance portion" you are referring to is what happens when you collect a special token that appears during game play; you and your opponent are sucked into a warp that takes you to a stage, where your goal is to either fill up a meter by button mashing as quickly as possible, or pressing the correct buttons in order as they pop up on the screen. Doing so results in a cinema of you sending your opponent flying off into the sky.

Like I said, I think the game does a great job of making VJ multiplayer, but it's just chaotic with more than two players. I need to play more to see if it's something you can get used to, but this has never been an issue for me in other 4P games like Powerstone, Smash Bros., etc.

apparently you missed this thread (fun times had by all).

is it sorta like mario party in the sense you play minigames to collect coins/stars, and whoever in the end has the most wins? like how are the stages set up, and how does it all start, progress, and end?
