Did you ever get your "big break"?

Nothing huge yet, but a smaller one that may well lead to the big one. To sum it up I work part time (outside of my main IT job) as a community guy for THQ. I got randomly asked over a year ago because the then CM of Homefront liked the way I carried myself on the Xbox boards. That lead to me visiting KAOS studios (RIP) and moving on to work on the communities for Saints Row, WWE, and Metro: Last Light as I am right now.

The biggest thing it gave me was connections. I know have a few "ins" with people at THQ, EA, etc. I'm hoping the big break will be in the form of a job at a gaming company/dev.

Ya got mine at age 26. Basically just worked my way up through my company to a point where there was no revolving door so I started going to lunch with people who could one day maybe be my boss. Quite literally invited myself to join others I barely knew, and schmoozed my way into some social circles. Took about a year of doing that, and working long hours to prove I was viable. A position opened up on the engineering team (I had zero experience, none what so ever) and I was given the massive promotion on past merit and work ethic.

Still running the show today, 8 years later.

Not yet but I'm still at university and I'm dong my placement/internship at a small software company that will hopefully have a space for me after I finish my degree.

I suppose the job I'm in would count. Software Developer II. On paper, it requires 3-5 years of prior experience, and a Bachelor's in CS. I somehow managed to get the job with only a general Associates, and no professional experience. Plenty of off-the-job experience, and that bore out in the interview/testing phase, but still.

I was (and still am) 29 too. I can't remember the last time I was this stressed out by a job. So much to learn.

Happened today, in fact. Just got an offer for a job with a company I didn't expect to be considered by, for a salary that puts me in the top 1% of my MBA class.

I'm not sure what I had could be classified as a big break, at least not yet. It was a small break, and a turning point, I think. If all goes according to plan it'll lead me to a big break.

Found out yesterday that my sleazy rape/revenge musical got picked for production in Toronto's summer Fringe Festival. Getting in means being issued a venue, crew and tech, publicity and 100% of the ticket sales.

After mounting the last couple myself with very little money to spare, this whole deal is quite grand--and indeed, a step towards the "break".
