I have a cheapo six year old bamboo tablet that I've been using for all of my college career and I wanted something more useful now that I don't have access to the cintiqs in my university lab (now that I've graduated).

Primarily want to use it to beef up my portfolio/client work and have more fun drawing digitally. I was looking at the 22" Cintiq because of the drawing space.

My issue is the Cintiq line isn't being supported anymore and it's a bit oudated but the 16" Mobilestudio is out of my pricerange. Is the 13" Mobilestudio good enough? I'm mainly going to use it for illustrations/photo editing/2D Animation. I'm worried the screen size might be too small for me.

Any wacom with a screen is a cintiq.

It depends on what you want to do. Do you see yourself drawing on the go, or do you mind being stationary? That's really the deciding factor. If you already have a good computer, and don't mind being stationary when you work, get one without a cpu, if you have to work on the go, get one with a cpu

I don't really have a good PC at the moment. My laptop runs pretty well and I do draw a lot on the go. I'm just wondering if the cintiq companion is too old now or if it's still worth getting.

i have a intuos 4 tablet

The biggest draw for me is I want to draw directly on the screen. If not I'd probably get the intuos instead.

Since both have the option to either be stand alone units or be tethered to your computer as a display its really up to you. I don't know what your budget is but if you're willing to drop $1400 on the Mobilestudio pro I'd spend some of that money to buy a really solid work horse computer.

i have heard nothing but bad impressions about the companion line.

I'd rather spring for the mobile studio if you need something portable.

I think I remember hearing something like that.

I'm terrified of building PC's even thought everyone says it's easy.

Find a shop that will build a machine from the component you select. I tend to do this as I get 2 years of completely warranty including troubleshooting, which is nice.
