Dishonored screenshots

I thought this thread might be for infamous bullshots that looked way better than the final game did.
Hahaha, same.

Also, that game definitely does give that HL2 vibe. Not complaining though because HL2 looked amazing.

I also dislike how selective the game is with how advanced certain technology is but not others.

I mean they have robot legs, huge boats and armored cars but go around with swords and ancient pistols?

It's the same problem with BioShock, although they got by with the "isolated city with no research barriers in the way" explanation.

All I can think when I see these pictures is that we're gonna be fighting a more badass White Glove Society in this game.

This is actually on my hype meter, though. Looks good. Will most likely buy if the gameplay turns doesn't suck.

Really looking forward to this.
There is no doubting that there is a lot of pedigree behind this and I applaud something different even if it does have some HL2 similarities, I am getting a bioshock infinite vibe also.

Without a doubt the most impressive game I saw last week at GamesCom. It's like if Assassins Creed, BioShock, Deus Ex and Thief had a love child.

Is this using the Source engine?

Also it's amazing how in 2011 devs still cannot do circular wheels.

Harvey Smith said heavily modified UE3 when I asked him after my session with the game.

Visuals are definitely reminiscent of games we've played, but it looks good and I'm glad Antonov lent some style and identity to the game. Arkane's past games play brilliantly but they're held back by the whole high fantasy orcs & wizards spelunking adventure thing.

Plenty folks are enjoying (or will be enjoying) the new Deus Ex, so this should be on a lot of radars.

Oh shit. Is the the game by the remnants of the team that mad of Might and Magic source game. The melee fighting should be fantastic then.

One of those rare games where artistic direction beats technological prowess, at least graphically. The article I read on it makes the game play sound fantastic and given who is working on it I have high hopes. Please don't turn into another Brink letdown.

Im not sure i like it.
Yeah. The art style is all over the place. I love the environment and mechanical designs, but I'm not too keen on the character design so far. Still, the game sounds great on paper, so I'm still excited.

I hope they do an Irrational Games and publish a playthrough of what they've shown to the press. The art works much better in motion, but sadly the game looks so early in motion that they really can't show it off right now.

Glad to see that everyone had their daily does of haterade... Let's try to look at the positives for once: The game is being developed by some kick ass people, the graphics are decent, and most of all, it's an ORIGINAL idea... Not some bullshit rehashed sequel, another space marine shooter, or the 15th version of the same game over and over again. I say kudos to the makers and I hope it rocks hard...

What constitutes a "poor man's" anything?

I can see where he is coming from, the game has skills akin to the plasmids in BioShock. Tornadoes, slow down time, teleports, impersonate rat and so on.

But luckily they are only a small part of the game, and it is so so much more then that. The amount of systems and mechanics at play is insane.

I'm loving this. Hit me up peeps! What are the systems? What's the gameplay like?

It's essentially a first person Deus Ex with gameplay systems from Assassins Creed, BioShock, Thief and Deus Ex.

You play as a supernatural assassins, who previously was bodyguard to the queen, but now marked as a traitor after some business went down.

The main gameplay is based around letting you handle situations the way you want. You can do AC style jumping on roof tops and using teleport to make larger jumps (you choose the teleport skill/plasmid, point and voila, which can be used while jumping and so on). You can walk in shadows, stalk people, steal keys and work your way to your goal without noticed.

You can use your sword and pistols to work your way through guards and kill your way to your target.

You could take over a rat, find a whole in the sewer system and gain access to the building you need to enter, jump through an open window, find a key, force your way or make up your own way by using whatever available skills you currently have at your disposable.

While most of the stuff has been seen in previous games, I like how Dishonored mixes all of the systems from the other games into one experience, and adds in a ton of different elements like how rats are a dynamic system, and they can help you eat victims guards don't need to find and so on.

The game doesn't point out where you need to go, what to do or what you could do. Which to me is the most impressive part. It demands you actually think for yourself and go "this should be possible to pull off", and it seems like the game will support whatever crazy way of doing stuff you can think up.

The combat looked a bit janky in the demo I got, but that is something that can be fixed, and I didn't get any idea of the main story, but the game mechanics themselfs look beyond anything I've seen in another game this generation.

Looks amazing. I really don't understand the "all over the place art style" comments, if anything, it looks very coherent. Nazi England with some supernatural BioShock/Half-Life elements. Nothing looks out of place.

Technically, the textures could use some work though. Most of them look too blurry and flat. The bricks and the cobblestones have no depth at all. Would add a lot.

this looks derivative of the highest order. some of these shots even look like they were composed to purposefully resemble other games.

This is already one of my most hyped games for 2012. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint. Now I am just waiting for gameplay.

This is a joke post right? I think you're really overestimating the graphics of games from 2003.

Isn't this the new game by Arkane? If so, why is the word "Arkane" not mentioned once on the first page. I got a bit confused by that.

Anyway, I like the graphical style, even if it is a bit inconsistent. More importantly, I was already hyped for this before knowing what it looks like. If it is half as good as the descriptions make it sound it should easily be one of the highlights of the year.

Sounds like Hitman.

While I know it isnt, I keep thinking of the Source Engine and Half-Life 2. Still, the firebeathing stilt police are pretty cool.
